More than 4?
^^^ Nice clean fight please....! No kicking, elbows, gouging, biting, punching below the belt or general roodness..... Gentlemen, Seconds out, round one! Clang clang....
Time for a little live and let live I think. We are all bass players.Pleas do'nt condemn those who feel the need for more than 4(wierdo's)
3. Definately check your posture.Tty raising the neck and lowering the body. All that 'body under the chin'style a la Mark King will cause untold joint problems later on.Warm up,stretch, and do'nt hunch up.

More than 4?

I'll just put my bit in;I've tried a 5 but just did not feel comfy with it so I'm happy to stick to 4's. As for bass players 'noodling' and straying into guitar players shoes,if it fits the song and can be done tastefully, why not.

Ive got my 9

I feel inadequate with my measily 4 strings. Are you getting more fingers grafted on?
6. I've seen a tiny EA amp on Overwaters site and it seems to be the best thing since sliced bread. Anybody tried one?
7. And the Devil did wispereth into mans ear, saying"You are a man, what do you need a manual for?" And man did disregard the instructions, and the Devil did titter mightily.
8. Hi from Godalming.I was starting to think that this county had very few bassists around.

Comfy Bass

Status groove;pretty light.If you're going to use a Warwick(great necks)get a Comfort strap.
10. 1 It aint the notes you play, its the space you make. 2 Be open to suggestions from other band members. 3 Help set up/pack away other band members gear. 4 Do'nt eat curry/chillie/pickled eggs before gigs/rehersal/recording.

Longbow Bass

Two questions;why would anybody want one,and why would anybody build one?Answers, probably written in crayon,on a sheet of toilet paper,to....
12. My tone utopia was discovered recently when I used my spare bass(Status Groove)at a function gig.I turned the EQ off thats on my amp(TE 300w head into Peavey 1x15),boosted the bass conrol on the Status and bled off some treble.Result;a warm but clearly audible tone, and one happy bass player!
13. Try Only Want To Be With You,the old Dusty Springfield number. My lot have been playing this at function gigs for a couple of years now.We play it very fast, with the bass playing the vocal melody at the end of the verses. If you want to keep things funky, have a go at Superstition by Stevie Wonder.
14. Tried the trumpet, played tenor and bass drum in a marching band, took up the guitar, switched to bass 4 years later(at 17),and 21 years later I'm trying to learn the mandolin. Being a musician does not mean that we should limit ourselves to one instrument.Trying a new string/brass/percussion etc instrument can only help us to widen our musical tastes and our skills.
15. I,ve seen a few pictures of a Fender P'bass Big Block. Has anyone bought or tried one?
16.
Hi all. Jumping in on this thread... can anyone give me their feelings/experiences with the Aerodyne Jazz?? I have it on my list of things to get sometime (after amp upgrade.. or maybe some sorta fretless first) but I'd love to hear from real users. I must admit to being attratcted to the dark side and all that lovely shiny blackness and smoked chrome.. yum! Anyhoo, any advice is greatly appreciated. Marky
I px'ed mine for a Warwick $$ 6 months ago.It had a great neck but the uncontoured body was agony!I'm glad to see the back of it!
17. I think I'm moving towards flats.I've started to re-string with nickel instead of stainless rounds for a warmer flavour. I've noticed that the are dearer than roundwounds though, and being a tightwad its putting me off!
18. Gerry McAvoy,so solid. Bruce Foxton, aggresive and melodic.
19. I can only play rhythm stick at the proper tempo with a pick. With fingers I play a combination of 8th and 16th notes. It just about works.
20. We need a 12 step progamme.GASers Anon perhaps?
21. Too much money, too little sense. These people steal our oxygen.
22. I own a Warwick $$.Its great but heavy so I can Sympathize with your plight.Just try to find the widest strap possible, preferably in neoprene rubber(softer than leather).
23.
I dont understand whats so great about 5'ers. someone enlighten me? a deeper string and less need for movement up and down the neck? is that all? thanks
I do'nt get 5 string gear either.They're like Marmite,like or loathe.
24. I sold an Aerodyne Jazz after 1 month because of the bound body,so try and use a contoured bass.I dont see why I suffer pain when I play due to an aesthetic design feature.
