Carvin

I had a look at the Carvin site last night and was mightily impressed. But I've never seen one in the flesh or heard one played. Are they any good? Are they worth importing?
4. Kidneys for sale,or will part ex for new sterling bass.
5. I think its worth a punt.£86!If you spent another £80 on new pup's it would still be a bargain.
6. Does anyone have any pointers as to where I can find a new nut for my BB414,and how to fit it? It snapped when I put a set of flatwounds on it,and has had a couple of repairs, but I think it's time I did a proper job of it.

OCTOBER 9TH

Come one, come all,to another night of shingle, sea, and scintillation! Orchid Thieves tread the boards in one of Brightons finest establishments! Cheap food, cheap beer, cheap jokes, and good, good music!
8. Yamaha BB414.Big body, but a good sound(try the bridge pup with the tone rolled off).
9. Any bass with a slab body.If I wanted something to cut into my arm,I'll raid the cutlery drawer and get a knife. Ampeg amps.Big,heavy, expensive hernia creators.Embrace the digital age, people!Valves will go the way of the dodo! Overdrive pedals for bass.Leave that to the g**tarists, please.
10. Add a bridge to neck thumb rest and I might be tempted.
11.
Did it look like this?
No,thats a Vintage.I like the look of that as well.Love to hear if anyone is using one at the moment.
12. Absolutely fantastic! My lot(Orchid Thieves)are thinking about getting a video done,so any pointers/contacts gratefully recieved. I shall have to purchase a copy via Amazon soon!
13.
It's amazing how quickly redundancy can cure G.A.S. Worked for me, though I don't recommend you try it
The birth of my son did it for me.
14. I wear a black trilby, grey shirt, metallic blue tie, grey jeans, boots. The band colour scheme is grey and black with a few coloured highlights, except for the singer who wears something bright(blue at the last gig.).
15. Got it!It's a Vester Clipper. Thanks for the help.
16. Thanks guys. The bass looked great and had a good mid-range growl on it.I quite fancy one.
17.
I'd rather have almost anything else (including piles). Horrible.
+1 here(but without the chalfonts)
18. I played at The Prince Albert in Brighton last night, and the bass player from one of the support acts had a bass that looked like a Warwick thumb, was thru-neck,but the head stock had a V as the logo.It was in a natural wood, possibly bubinga. WTF was it?
19. I agree with the whole "horses for courses" thing;I would'nt play a 5 because I don't(as yet)need to.But if you do,then fine.

21.
Yah, I noticed he is in summer garb there isn't he! Maybe it gets hot in there.. make allowances for the guy. By the way Spoombung, I hope you don't mind that I stole the exact woods from the bass Mike made for you! Oh, he was enthusing to me about how beautiful your bass was, and I checked out your build diary and I just had to request those woods! How are the Zoot cabs? Awesome? I wouldn't be surprised. And yes I will post my finished chaser up on that thread, thanks MacDaddy!
The cabs are featherlite in weight,Mike Tyson heavy in sound!I use a 2x12.
22. Strings that need replacing once every 12 months(not flatwounds,I know they never get changed!). A cattle prod/whip device to induce singers to help you set up/pack away. An anti-ego pill to give to any band member who has one. A "Cheers mate, have a pint"machine that you can use on other bass players at multi band gigs when they use your rig.
23. I've got a Zoot cab,so now I've got GAS for a matching bass!Chaser in Vintage White please!
24. I now record under the name Hubert"One string banjo"Cheesemonger.Kind catchy. But then so is bubonic plague.
