1. R,3,5 of any chord, always using the others as passing notes. Not adverse to a bit of inversion no and then.

Welcome to the club,Robert. If a bass feels right to you, then its the right choice. What it looks like is immaterial. An uncomfortable bass will put you off.
3. We play quietly on stage,so we can hear clearly.No-one is deafened by any amps, and the monitors do thier job! This has made it easier for the sound guys to do thier job(that and the pint we always buy them!)
4. C'mon down and see the band! This is our headline gig at a fantastic venue.Sound is great, beer is good, and its a stones throw from the railway station!
5. To all the good sound people(Red at The Half Moon in Putney, the guys at Sound in Leicester Square, the guys at The Bull and Gate),many thanks,I hope you enjoyed the pint. To the others, especially the rather chemically refreshed ones who turned up 60 minutes after the alloted soundcheck time, may your next s**t be a pineapple!
6. Basses;a copy of my Status Groove,a P-bass special,a headless Steinberger cricket bat type thing. Amps;heads by Markbass,cabs by Zoot,but about 800w. Other gear;a Guiness roadie,a driver a Bentley,and a curry chef on 24 hour callout.
7.
No one every stops learning. even the VERY best. Some people would say that I should start learning

I used a 410TX for years.Fantastic sound,spine damagingly heavy!
9. Ash P-bass body, maple neck with reverse head stock, tappable humbucker just bridgewards of the usual P-bass pup spot,2 band eq. And some talent.
10. Zoe,I had a listen to some of your other songs.Great tone, great feel! As musicians,we should never stop learning, and always try to push ourselves.
11.
I actually think Zoe got her new mate Norman (as evidenced by recent pics of two together) to record that and she is now passing it off as her own... ... I'm impressed. I tried this and gave up, to be revisited in a few years when I have better technique. Question (and with no intention of hijacking the thread) for the panel - I play with a pick and can get the right speed using a pick (even if the notes are kind of muddled). But no way can I play that fast using my fingers. Is it just practice that is required?
Same here with the pick.
12. A groove so solid you could drive a tank on it!

You have just built my dream bass.
14. I recently stripped and refinished an old Samick P-bass.I used Ntromors and a sander to strip the finish, and dyed it black(I used Liberon Palette wood dye)and coated it with wax.It came out pretty good for a first attempt, and the black finish hides the fact that it is a 3-piece body.
15. If you use oil, burn the rags as soon as you have finished for the day!If they are left scrunched up they can spontaineously combust(this happened to a customer of mine, lucky he had public liability insurance.).
16. Zoe,I havn't listened because I don't need reminding that I can't play that line, despite trying for a whole year!'Tis the Devil's own groove! Well done.If you can nail that, you can play anything!

This is my only comment on that mutant;NO,NO,NO.
18.
I wish I was the same Chris. I never had GAS when I was a guitarist - only ever used a Strat or a Tele if I was feeling saucy. I just don't seem to be able to settle on any one bass for more than a few months and then I need a change. My love of music and playing live is unaffected by my constant equipment changes.
+1 here.I have one "keeper",but the back-up plank is always subject to GAS!
19. Absolutely,Bubinga5.To date,I have never found a bass that fits the bill as well as my Groove. But remember, this is only idle speculation. The Groove seems pretty tough(crosses fingers).
20. This is a top venue with a great atmosphere. If you're around Brighton on 4th Sept, please show your support! Funky disco-ish Police style rock tunes. And a hat.
21. As a bit of idle speculation dressed up as bass research,I would like to pick your brains. My main bass is a Status Groove.I love the feel, the sound(warm, middly growl),and the look of it,but as they are rarer than an honest MP,what would you suggest as a replacement should my beloved expire? It would have to have all the main ingredients of the Groove, and not be a custom instrument. Oh,please don't suggest a MM Stingray as I've tried them and dislike them!
22. I usually play songs that I will play on stage. After all, thats what the instrument is going to be purchased for.
23. I've found that a medium to high action stops me playing fast, and sounding sh*te as a result.Perhaps string height affects your playing style and your playing style affects your string height. If the action of your choice works for you then you have nothing to worry about. Anyway, low action is for jazz playing string tapping above the 12th fret stunt-bass maniacs!
24. Almost all of Duck Dunn's lines are simple.Yet bloody effective. Best quote ever about simple bass-lines is from Doc Pomeroy;"for a counrty song, think of the simplest line, then halve it.That's what you play!"
25. To quote my guitarist mate;"You could drive a f**king tank under those strings!" He's 6'3",built like a brick sh*thouse,but can't take the action of a bass.What a tart!
