as this seems to be the uke thread does anyione have any experience with the uke hanges that clamp onto mic stands (and the like)? i was wondering if they would clamp onto a bookcase so i could have my U-bass and my concert uke hanging near my dek (they seem a bit exposed on floor stands and TBH i'm quite short on floor space as there is a bass, an electric guitar and an acoustic there already this kind Matt

yeah they're not really much use above 7th fret (and not really that great there either) but i find that when playing with acoustics i rarely need to go that high. Also i don't really do the more melodic stuff so it's fine for simply holding down the low end. and it always gets a great reaction because most of the audience will never have seen one. Matt

i have played a couple including the Aria mentioned previosly and a 5 string Ibanez, for me they just were too bulky and a bit too quiet for playing along with unamplified acoustic guitars, i also dallied with a Yamaha BEX4 for a while but the ergonomics didn't really suit me. I ended up going a different route and bought a kala U-Bass and just use a small amp, depending on the situation i either used a marshall practice amp or an acoustic amp. I found that the U-bass was so small and light that i can wear it on my back so carrying a small amp wasn't an issue. the Kala is loud enough for home practice but the very short scale and very rubbery strings aren't to everyones taste (i have fitted Aquila thunder red strings which helped though) Matt

I found some references to this over on talkbass, it seems to give a strange noise on first plugging in, I'm not sure what sorcery musicman are using with this strange socket.

I've got the precision flats on my short scale and really love them, the tension seems about right to me, I have chromes on my 5 string and ernie ball flats on my 77 p-bass but I think the ghs are my favourite

if it isn't threaded you could try a piece of rubber hose that is an easy fit through the middle and then put a nut and bolt through the hose and compress it so it expands to fit the inside of the fitting, then you can grip this whilst undoing the nut. (hopefully that was clear, if not i can try and draw some kind of diagram to try and clarify) Matt

this has got me obsessed now! this kind of work is what i normally do 8-4 Monday to Friday (I'm a design engineer) being on furlough is messing with my head a bit This appears to be the part but it is out of stock (and seems expensive!) are tere any makers marks or any kind of code on the socket? there is an outside chance that Musicman use a special one-off configuration fot this part but the more likely answer is that it's an off the shelf component they just re-brand and sell at a profit. it could be an Amphenol ACJS-MV-3S which is 4 pole or there are 4 different Switchcraft options with 3 different sized pins so it might be one of those ( the 113 options) it would depend what the internal switching is on the original. i have attached the relevant bit from the spec doc, you just need to put the right numbers and letters in to get the code number. There are multiple options for both of those makes, the amphenol one has a 4 pole option, it's just a matter of working out what the part code is and then searching for the actual part.

Amphenol make one very similar (possibly identical) spec sheet is on here this one might be it LINKY Matt

i can't be 100% certain but it looks like a switchcraft Hi-D type, have a look at the technical spec doc Here and compare the dimensions and spacing, have a close lok at the original and see if there are any marking to give a model number. Matt

Can you post a picture of it? There are only really a couple of different types so should be easy to point you in the direction of a suitable replacement. Matt

i've used those to hold up a floor, they're about the strongest fixing i have ever used!

they must have fallen off on my stands, no sign of them on either of the 2 i have here (both bought in reputable bricks and mortar shops maybe 10 years ago) Matt

Where was the serial number on your stand, I have 2 here, one broken one fine and I've searched both of them and there is no sign of a serial number. Matt

i've just watched the video on the geefix website and i'm not totally convinced, it's a pretty big hole that's needed in the wall, i would be more convinced if they had compared it to more types of fixing rather than just the 2 they did, also the section of plasterboard they used for the geefix was not the same piece that failed on the other 2 types (maybe that's me being cynical!) if you got one of those geefix in the wrong place then it's a bit more of a job to patch the 25mm hole compared to the 8 or 9mm hole that other fasteners use. as i'm always putting holes on the wrong place (apparantly) that would be an issue for me. yes i followed the instructions carefully and they just seem to make a total mess and i've never trusted them. i prefer to drill a nice clean hole then use one of the other types, there is a chance that the pasterboard was to blame but the other types don't seem to be so picky about the wall.

the toggle type are very strong, but you do need to install them correctly as once you remove the screw the toggle can fall into the cavity never to be seen again! the interset type allow you to remove the hanger (so that the room can be repainted for example) then the hanger can go back where it was.

yes they look right, the plasterboard should be at least 9.5mm thick so they should work fine, i think that the 5mm thread should fit fine through the hanger, you might want a washer to help spread the load over the hanger a bit maybe as i'm not sure exactly what shape the heads are on the screws Matt

i have tried the metal ones that @ubit shows but never had much luck with them (they always seem to pull a massive chunk out of the wall in my house) i have used a few different types for various stuff in the house, i think they are most likely one of the bigger Rawl uno type (blue or brown with the thickest screw they suggest) this type are also holding up a overloaded floating shelf in the living room. https://www.rawlplug.co.uk/product/uno-universal-plug/ Rawl Interset are very good if you can measure what thickness the plasterboard is. https://www.rawlplug.co.uk/product/sm-interset/ The metal screw in type are for lighter duty stuff according to the Rawl website. i don't know what they class as light duty though. they must be used with the supplied screws as well. https://www.rawlplug.co.uk/product/dra-02-metal-self-drill-fixing-for-drywall/ Matt

i have 2 of these, one in a plasterboard wall, as @ubit says they are fine as long as you use the right fasteners, i always throw away the ones in the pack and use heavy duty fixings from the Diy shop, the one on a plasterboard wall has been there for about 10 years and has spent a fair amount of that time holding my 1977 precision bass which weighs about 11.5 pounds, it hasn't moved a bit. i trust them totally the other one is holding up my beloved McIlroy acoustic in the living room , if i hadn't popped in to buy the hanger that day with my wife then i never would have bought the guitar.
