1. I was looking at the antiquities when I was upgrading my old Squier, it was a toss up between them or the 57 re-issue SPB 1 which I eventually plumped for.
2. I never used to sing, I was completely off key all the time I tried. Then I joined a covers band about ten years ago and was asked to sing back up, when I told them that I couldnt sing they didnt care! There were two vocalists in there already, so I hid behind their voices. Fast forward ten years when I joined a new band, I was trying to get the guys to do a cover of Creedence Clearwaters 'Fortunate Son' and the singer couldt quite nail it. So I had a go at it myself to demonstrate it and really surprised myself! The band where so impressed they said 'Wow! you sang that really well, why dont you sing it?' So all those years singing week in week out, I trained my voice without me even knowing it!!
3. Its those little hammer - ons that catch me out!
4. I have been playing this for a while now, and have not really paid much attention to the bass part on the long guitar solo. Had a closer listen today, and instead of holding down the G Bb and C for 5 minutes, there is some nice bass work going on there, albeit largely mixed down in favour of the guitar solo. Some of the upper register work is really impressive and Leon Wilkenson hardly ever plays the same part twice.
5. Who was it that sung 'Silence Is Golden?'
6. When I was learning the bass, a mate played me the Beatles song, Rain, I had never heard the bass played so high up the neck prior to that, I loved it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ppKhsgYMxI&feature=fvwrel
7.
Beatles, for sure. McCartney has a gift with melody, no doubt about it, but he needed Lennon's cynical edge to reign in the twee factor. There were still plenty of Beatles tracks where he edged over the borders of good taste, though... Honey Pie, Maxwell's Silver Hammer... urgh.
Hmm, strange that the bass on these two less popular songs was played by George Harrison.
8. Timothy B Schmit from The Eagles, very versatile player from the country to the heavy rock stuff. Also a great fretless player here.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4_eJQV-FM0
9. Bought some pickups off me, instant payment, no messing around! - Cheers!!
10. I was chatting to the girl on the BGM stand at the LBGS and asked her if they did an ipad version of the mag and was quite surprised to find out that they did! She was aware of the problems with the ill fated ibass magazine and was quite sympathetic to those who were being left in the lurch by them. Unfortunately, I couldnt buy a subscription for the ipad edition at the stand, and therefore, did not qualify for a free t shirt!
11. Cheers Doc!!
12. Does anyone know what size screws will fit these? I ordered one from Thomann and it didnt come with any.
13. Comes with assorted springs, screws and jack socket. I,m not sure wether anything was taken out of the packet, so what yer see is what yer get.
14. I was thinking of subscribing to the ipad editions, but common decency would be to give subscribers an update on the situation, unfornuately, the silence of ibass has lost my interest.
15. Hmm. I was interested in the ipad edition, but the lack of keeping subscibers informed, and no coms leaves me no longer bothered.
16. Recently removed from my 1969 replica P bass (below) to make way for some vintage Seymour Duncan SPB 1,s As I understand it, the original basis for my project was a 1996 Korean Squier. anyone want to give me a tenner for them??
17. For that sort of dirty accusations, he almost certainly owes you a free practice at least!!
18. I find it hard to play a complex part and sing, but its nigh impossible to stop myself looking down at my fingers instead of looking at the audience.
19. Also to add to Billyapples post above, did you know that Tony Butler has disconnected his tone pots for years, and this bass is too, if you want it reconnected in his Jhs P bass, you have to specify that you want it to be? BTW billy, if you were sitting behind me, sorry for the coughing, First day out from having flu
20. I bought a T shirt for a tenner and a bottle water (small) for £2
21. Had a go on a USA 62 RI P Bass on the 'guitar guitar' stand, what a beauty! but I couldnt really hear myself above the thwackety whaketty slappers at full volume. Caught the Tony Butler masterclass, he seemed a pleasant enough chap, some great drum and bass moments with his ex Big Country drummer Mark Brezicki I was quite surprised that I could wander in without being stopped I did fess up, but the security guy must have had a right earful from his boss!
22. Seymour Duncan vintage SBP1 gives an old school p bass thump, without beefing it up like quarter pounders or similar hot pickups do.
