2. it was good...we played flappers, a venue in brimingham. we were seriosuly worried that we weren'y going to make soundcheck cos of the traffic on the m25 and m1, but we made it in the end. the new intro/song we started with went a bit random, but as it's only really a drone-based jam we did ok... after that it kicked off into a storming gig...and it took us 3 hours on the button to get back to london.
We always rehearse in my house with an electric kit and everything through headphones - it's cheap, and everything gets recorded.
i think when we do it again i'll suggest a few extra cables and getting the hard drive whirring to record what we're doing. good plan !
  5.
The one on Loot is an Electro I (a bit cheaper than the new one). The Electro I had Maple neck, Rosewood board, piezo (no magnetic pickups) and didn't have the Rosewood top neither. I'd buy this bass in a heartbeat if I wasn't a builder myself.
ack...shame about the lack of a pickup
  6. just spent a very productive 3 hours round at our guitarists house...having a quiet practise. the drummer was using a set of electronic drums, fed through the quitarists home studio monitors and the rest of us were pretty darn quiet...you could easily make yourself hear without really raising your voice. it was a real revelation...i for one felt less 'in a world of my own' and it felt much more like a jam than running through the set a few times. everyone seemed to be listening to each other a lot more, and the odd musical joke crept in here and there...dropping shadows licks into the middle of songs that are usually a wall of noise for instance. i'd heartily recommend it. certainly set us up fr the gig tomoz night in brum !

  9.
Hmm, I recently arranged Claire De Lune for my 7 string, and it sounded pretty cool. Don't know if it is the kind of thing you're after, but it sounds pretty on bass
weird !! i've recently been getting hold of lots of back issues of 'bassist' magazine to get look at some solo bass arrangements (the advantage of working in a national library is that i can get hold of such things) and one of the first ones i got hold of was 'clare de lune' !! but i'm currently working on "feeling groovy (59th st. bridge song)" what i'm actually looking for it 'abide by me', which i remember being tabbed out somewhere in 'bassist'
  10. ok....here's mine... bass >> boss tu-2 >> fulltone bass driver 2 mosfet (set for a low-ish gain overdrive and a heavier overdrive boost setting) >> red onion effects loop (to cut the tone-sucking boss delay out and also so i can turn the delay and the phaser on/off in one go) >> boss dm-3 delay >> ehx small stone phaser (for general wierdness in between songs, and some sonic mangling at the end of the set) >> mxr bass di + (clean channel set as a volume boost to drive my ampeg a bit and to fight the guitarists as they turn themselves up during the gig and the distorted channel in case i want to go OTT with the fulltone and the mxr's distortion)
  11.
For a start, when I preach anti-pc common sense, people always back me up - Can't be such a bad place, can it?
when i hear the phrase 'common sense', i reach for my revolver...

    effects order

id' say q-tron first, but to be honest i've never used a wah pedal and and auto wah, so i'm not sure which of those would come first. other than that it's usually compression >> distortion >> modulation >> delay but i've no idea about the octaver and the microsynth.
  13. i'd buy it at that price...i really miss my 1a

  18.
If not RS or Cricklewood then try CPC Farnell. I've bought from them - they do a very wide range - not just snap-ins. Probably only cost you £5 or so.
farnel's eh ? my dad used to sell components to farnel's when he worked in industrial automation. actually, i'm going to pull the psu pcb again tonight and see if i can find a way that a push-fit cap would go in there ok.
  19.
Tried RS or Cricklewood Electronics?
thanks for the tip, but all i can find is snap-in caps, not the usual 'wire' type that you solder in. i've had a quote of £65 for a service from electronic music services... hmmm
