  1. Not sure if this is the right place for this (mods able to move it?) I want to do some recording while in lockdown (and afterwards). I've got a great amp (Mesa Boogie D-800) and sweet af DI box (Rupert Neve RNDI), so I'd like to add some more tonal options by getting a mic to record the cab. What mics have people used for this?Ideally something under £150.
  2. So much drool! If it weren't for money issues I'd be all over this!
  3. If only my roof didn't urgent repairs, I'd be all over this!
  4. It turns out I put the currencies the wrong way round when I checked the exchange rate... oops! With the lollipop tuner and postage its about £125, much more manageable!
  5. I want to add an Xtender to my JMJ Mustang, which has lollipop style tuners. The problem is I can only get an Xtender with a lollipop tuner direct from Hipshot which clocks in at about £200! I'm thinking I might get one from the Bass Direct and swap the tuning peg but I don't know how achievable this is. Anyone tried it?

  7. The SC has a clear hi-fi-ish tone (depending who you speak to of course!) that I can adapt to fit with whatever style I'm playing, and it's got lots of volume so it works for the medium sized venues I usually play. I generally use the One10 for gigs where space is tight, like theatre pits or some of the local pubs I play. However, because it uses ceramic magnets and they way its built (Alex gives a detailed description on his website) it has a very 'vintage' tone, lots of low mids and smooth/subdued highs, IMO great for soul/motown/old school funk type stuff, which I love playing so it'd be great to have the option of a proper gigging rig with that tone. I've used them together a couple of times, I don't recall thinking much of the sound. Alex doesn't recommend mixing his 10s and 12 as they are so different, and I'd agree. Maybe slightly louder due to extra cone area and being taller and closer to your ears.
  8. I have a SC and a One10, they're VERY different in tone with the same amp so you might want to try a One10 first, they definitely impart their own sound on your bass. One10s are rated at 8ohms so your MB would be outputting 400w to each One10, and according to the website they can handle 250w no bother, and up to 500w if its clean. Loving the pictures everybody! 😍 so tempted to pull the trigger!
  9. I play with a few different bands so set ups can be very variable, sometimes I get wedge or there is an in-ear set-up but sometimes there is neither. Frankly, I just like combining amps, cabs and basses for tonal variations, and I like my One10 and just want that sound but louder (without shelling out for a Two10 which I don't have space for)
  10. Can't seem to find a thread on this though I've seen pictures. What are people's experiences with gigging a One10 stack? Is it loud enough? If I'm using my own amp that generally means its with a wedding band, most of whom have a decent PA, so my rig is mostly for monitoring.
  11. seconded. This pedal does a great imitation of a tube amp if you use it in preamp mode (no overdrive), very B15 sounding. And if you want a bit of hair on the note just flick the switch to add in the gain circuit.
  12. Funnily enough this happened to me, probably about 8 years ago. I stepped on it to tune and the button and various screws and washers launched across the stage! I managed to screw it back to together and it worked fine but I wouldn't buy one again, I use a TC clip on tuner now.
  13. I've only had this for a month or so but I've realised that I need an active DI box (I use passive basses). It's in great condition, no damage or scratches. 15dB pad Merge (thru becomes second input for summing stereo instruments to mono output) 180 degree phase reverse ground lift Speaker (30dB pad) I'd consider full or partial trades for an active DI, something like a J48 or a Rupert Neve RNDI Postage to mainland UK is £10.
  14. I'm selling my 2018 Markbass Big Bang in black. It's in excellent condition, no scratches or dents and works as new. It puts out 500w at 4ohms and 300w at 8ohms. I've used it on a few big gigs and its always been loud enough. Included in the sale is a Gator gig bag, 2m kettle lead and 1m speak-on cable. Selling due to buying a D800 which has more watts I would consider a trade for a decent active DI box with cash my way. Free postage to mainland UK. Collection/meet-up is also an option, I'm based in Edinburgh but can travel pretty easily to Glasgow and southern Fife.
  15. Another vote for Barefaced. Its worth contacting them to discuss their cabs to see if they'll do what you need, but if you order one you get a month trial where you can return it with a full refund. I've used a Super Compact for about 4 years doing weddings so lots of different venues with lots of different bands and it's always been loud enough.
  16. This thread has been a bit quiet but as a Callowhill MPB owner (#0189) I can confirm that the B string is a beast. A drummer commented the other week about how strong it sounded compared to other basses, I'm not sure he even knew at that point it was a short scale. Someone mentioned difficulty finding short scale B strings, I am yet to find any, but I expect as short scale 5s are becoming more popular (Jake Serek of Serek basses also builds them) manufacturers will catch on and start producing them. What I've done, and what Tim suggested, was to get a regular scale B string and just cut it down (I use a D'Addario Nickel .130). Cutting them down to an appropriate length for winding and not unravelling the whole string is a bit of a skill and I've butchered a few in the process but the results are good.
  17. If you have money to burn I've heard great things about the Noble Amplifier tube preamp/DI. Unfortunately I've never tried one 😭 but players like Sean Hurley and Tim Lefebvre swear by them, and they both use passive Ps a lot of the time. I think there's a couple of people on here that have them https://nobleamps.com/preamps/.
  18. Now that I've gone down the solder-less route I have a pile of patch cables I no longer need. £1 each plus £1 postage. If you buy multiple cables it'll be £1 per cable plus £1 postage. For example, for 3 cables it'll cost £3 plus £1 postage, so £4 total. No brand 48cm x6 Planet Waves 26cm x2 Stagg (I think!)16cm x2
  19. I'm selling my Phil Jones headphone amp. I bought it about 4 years ago and used to use quite a lot but in the last 2 years it's not been used much. It still works as new, you can plug in your bass and play along with songs from an iPod/MP3 player/laptop. It has input gain and output volume, plus bass and treble EQ. The cables are a bit kinked from being wrapped up but they still work, the micro USB is a bit bent (see pics) but I've just charged it and it still works. Also included: - carry bag - 3.5 to 3.5 cable (60cm) - 3.5 to 6.3 cable (60cm) - USB to micro USB postage to UK only, it will be well packaged for transit, I've got lots of left over bubble wrap! L
  20. Hey there Bass nerds. On the rare occasion when plug into my amp at home, I've noticed a rustling sound going along with what I play, so not a ground loop, just a kind of white noise that sits under/behind my playing. I went through my gear - swapped basses, pedals etc - and isolated one of my cables. Now, it was a reasonably priced cable so I'm surprised that it was that one and not the cheap braided Fender one I got 5 years ago. Even the skinny one I found free in a guitar box was fine! Does anyone have an insight as to what exactly causes a cable to add noise to your signal? thanks L
  21. I bought one about a year ago, its a great bass and I love it! Its got a really nice vintage sound, the strings are flat wound but not too dead sounding and the neck is chunky but very playable. Its a bass for playing funk and soul grooves, not for blistering solos. Highly recommended!
