1. It is with great sadness that I find myself having to sell off the majority of my bass gear. Essentially, I'm not playing, and don't really have the time to find another band to play with, plus the car's just required major surgery, so it seems somewhat silly for me to have all this great gear just sitting in cases around the place. Anyway, I digress... For sale is my Fender CIJ '62RI Precision factory fretless bass in faded Sonic Blue. This used to belong to Old Horse Murphy - his for sale thread is here: http://basschat.co.u...onic-blue-gone/ It's currently got a fretted Squier P neck on it and the fretless neck is on a Squier Jazz body but I can put them back easily enough. It's in Surf Green/ faded Sonic Blue - currently with a parchment scratch plate but I have a red tort one too. The pic come with a health warning - they were taken with my phone camera (stupidly sold all my decent SLR lenses a while back because they weren't being used!) under electric lights - I've tried to adjust the white balance to reflect the actual bass colour, but because of the terrible lighting etc it varies. The focus is crap too. I've roughly weighed it with the Squier fretted neck on, and it's about 9lbs, so without the heavier neck and fret wire I'd say Nick's suggestion of 8.5lbs is eminently feasible. It has a small ding on the neck at about the third 'fret' - it's never bothered me but I would have thought it could have been easily drop-filled if needs be. There are assorted dings from Nick's ownership - I've not gigged it and it stays cased when not have sporadic home use. It's fitted with the SPB1, and I bought a Dimarzio Ultrajazz that I was going to fit but never got round to, if you wanted to convert it to P/J, which I can include for an extra £35. The fretless neck has always been used with nylon wrapped flats whilst in my care, and will come with them. Anyway, to the pics: I am also selling a matching MIJ '62 RI Jazz - see ad here. 2. For sale is my Fender MIJ '62RI Jazz bass in faded Sonic Blue. The finish is more like a faded Surf Green, but I'm assured it's Sonic Blue. It comes with a Red Tort and a sort of mint/parchment pick guards. I purchased this from here a while back (can't immediately find the original FS thread, sorry) and it had been fitted with a set of Nordstrand pickups - NJ4 hum cancelling if I remember correctly (but could be single-coils - it doesn't hum though!). I added a Badass and a J-Retro preamp (which was professionally-fitted) and it's been like that ever since. The body has a number of dings which I've tried to show in the pics - the worst being through to the wood on the bottom edge. Most of these pre-date my ownership! There are some nicks in the top of the headstock - some were there when I got it, but the most recent was me taking it out of its case to photograph it - doh. It plays like a dream, the preamp giving the usual passive Jazz tones but also a boosted take on the Jazz sound - it's versatility means you can get the classic slap tone, a Marcus-style sound, and also a very passable P-bass sound from the neck pickup. Basically a very versatile bass that plays beautifully. Anyway, on to the pics (which I apologise for - some were taken a while ago using a decent camera and good lens, the most recent ones using a 50mm prime under horrible lighting): I am also selling a matching CIJ '62 RI factory fretless P-Bass - see ad here. My amp and cab are also up for sale in a separate thread. I would very much prefer pickup from Bath/Bristol. I have one decent hard case and two basses to sell! I'm looking for £550 with the J-Retro. I could be persuaded to remove it (I'll include the original controls with the bass) but I wouldn't trust my soldering to put it back together again. Not really looking for trades as cash is currently king, but I could be persuaded to take something like a Warwick Proline Corvette 4 or 5-string, or a G&L L/M2000/2500 plus cash my way depending on spec.
3. Complain to the Ombudsman. If it's covered in the garage, and the van is in the garage, then I think it's an unfair distinction and the FOS may well agree. Jake (reasonably experienced insurance lawyer)
4. Julian sold me his Squier VM loaded Jazz body. Despite Parcelfarce's best attempts, I managed to get it intact due to his excellent packing. It's in really good nick and I have no reason to doubt that when it's finally built up it'll play like a beaut. He's a pleasure to deal with. Thanks Jake
5. Hi, I'll take it if I may. PM coming. Cheers Jake
6. If I was still in Brum is be all over this. Do you want to ping the setlist over and I can see whether I know any of it? Might cut out some rehearsals?
7. Saw Billy at Cheltenham Jazz Festival this year - he's one of my favourite players (I'm primarily a drummer) and he hasn't lost an ounce of groove!
8. Some more pics of the P-bass guard:

13. Does it have the capacity to mix two inputs like the J-Retro? I only ask because I'm considering putting one in a P and getting a j pup in at the bridge.
14. Purchased a foot switch - all perfect, thanks!
15. Gah! I was in Brum for 10 years looking to put some kind of fusion jazz band together, and shortly after I move this comes up! Good luck with the project, sounds fantastic!
16. Not sure if there's a gag I'm missing here: http://www.gumtree.com/p/community/cool-black-bassist-wanted/1051695538 Or is it just a stunning lack of self-awareness on the part of the poster?
17. No, not immersed in the tub, but located in Bath, Avon! Relocated from Brum back in October 2013. I'm an experienced player (20 years or so) in various styles - jazz, funk, soul, blues, latin, swing, rock etc. Looking for function band or jazz or funk band in the first instance, but open to suggestions! I really want to get playing again. All pro gear, transport, v reliable and can read music too.
18. I"ve moved to Bath from Brum fairly recently, and unfortunately left my bands behind. I'm fairly new to bass playing - I'm an okay player, not a wild whizzy soloist, but reasonably solid with blues, soul and funk. Looking for function bands in the above genres, but would like to hook up with anyone who fancies a jam too.
19.
Are they? don't be sorry it was advertised as a usa one!!!! But yes great kit , thanks for that ..
Yes, I had one of the first Renowns (not Purewood) kits into the UK - absolutely superb kit, looked and sounded fantastic. I do regret getting rid - though now I have a USA one!
20. Hi, sorry to be a pain but it's not a made in USA Gretsch - the Renown series is all Far Eastern made. Lovely kit though!
