1.
Oldgit Really sorry, I accidently edited your post haha. I went to reply, clicked on wrong button and edited your post thinking it was my reply. That's why it looks a bit different, couldn't remember what you had included/quoted etc. My bad! Shuker's build sounds very 'food-for-thoughty' S
With Global Power comes great responsibility No worries. Yeah I think he is thinking of adding a classic jazz like this to the JJB "Jon's pension" line of classics that will just keep selling...
 2.
I like how that looks and I hate relics.
Well real ones exude a real vibe you just don't get from one that's ben relic'd
 3. Yeah that's from a feature on it on Curtis Novak's site. Fascinating. http://curtisnovak.com/vintage/JazzBass59/ I can't remember what's on the headstock on the one John did, sorry.. it was just a glimpse He thinks the customer may be a BC member so pics may show up in porn some time.

 6. If I wanted an old style Jazz I'd have a word with a certain Mr Shuker about a recent build ... Let's say Herbie might recognise an old friend ...
 7.
Sorry Old Git, but I'm not sure about this. To me, funk needs space, which is why the original works so well. You can argue it with me on Saturday, but bear in mind I'm getting you in free.
Oh I don't think that was a funky version of PUTP (which I play on sax in one assiate bands) I just think it can stand a lot of variable treatments and I liked it. Busy, sloppy, messy etc.. It still has something I like. We can half agree as MrsOldGit has had a day time TV advert work related accident that wasn't her fault and so has her leg up and won't be along
 8.
OK dudes, the T shirts are now at my house!! I will be putting them up for sale with a view to getting them all posted in one go during my half term week (Oct 24th) so will put them up on my dedicated merch site very soon. Cheers ped
Coooooooool!! Thanks for doing the do Ped. Stuff liek this is always a pain but it is appreciated. OG
 9. Very funly Pick Up The Pieces Bass player's "Spy" from Sam kelly's Station House http://www.sam-kelly.com/stationhouse/SHBIOG.htm
 10. Strings, cleans, trussrod tweaks, some electrickery I'd not buy anything. There's already plastic folding "neck supports" available in repair kits but I put a couple of cusions on the kitchen table. At gigs I'll just lay it on a well lit table on a jacket or half a gig bag or case. There's this http://www.ducksdeluxe.com/gnrindex.html and this Dunlop thing and a fender "worksation"
 11. Excellent. Once you can play it's all about being on the same page and reliable, friendly, personable and doing the ground work...
 12. "From: nr cardiff" oooh will it and you be coming to the bash?
 13.
If anyone can give me the chords for this song (not the riginal Dion version) but the chords that Fagan actually played (or even a close faximilie), I would appreciate that. Surprisingly (on the site), I am not a bass player but have been fascinated by our bassist's ingenuity when it comes to jazz, especially progressive jazz. Any comments or assistance is appreciated. Regards...jazz from Canada "The Left Coast" band
You'll be wanting that nice Mr Academy from Nearly Dan http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showuser=5887
 14. Phew.. Take that temptation way! Well hopefully you can post soon to say it's gone off to a nice home for a full life of stage work

 16.
Hey Si, thanks for the advice! I dont really wanna risk using ebay at all anymore for sales, Kubickis withdrawn, hard to find and I refuse to sell it for silly money so I've sent it home. Keeper!
ha ha Sometimes they just won't leave you....
 17.
i think we have been under selling ourselves we've been charging £500 to £700 for which they get band and disco.the night usually goes like this disco(well easy listening)while the folk eat. then the proper disco starts till about about 9 oclock.after which first live set.another disco followed by a audience participation game then live band again .then disco till the end
Depends on where you are but that's a bargain for the couple. You may want to keep it like that though or offer teh disco bit as a bargin extra £100 or so. Still cheaper than DJ but you can then price it seperately andmake it clear its an add on. We do a scout round our contacts every now and then to find out the pricing range for what we do in our area. We then aim our fee at a long way less than the top agent's fee. We still do well out of it but no one gets p15534 off at our fee either.
 18. and read the Thread on playing weddings Loads of helpful info there on the massive, huge, enormous difference between weddings (and other "functions") and your average pub gig. Oh and my thread on how to get your band website to really sell you as a wedding band Wedding band website stuff
 19.
Thanks for the info that's quite interesting to know This is with the local newspaper group that covers Wigan, Preston area and are all held at decent venues, there is one this weekend so i may go along to just suss it out before we decide whether to book for the one at the end of October. cheers steve
Flyer the cars and Brides and Grooms and you may not have to do one
 20.
We exhibit at The National Wedding Show every year......... It gets us about 50% of our bookings for the year..... So it's worth it. But... A bobby basic stand plus a single power point is going to cost you about £2.5k. Then you have all of your marketing material, staffing, hotel costs etc..... not cheap.
£2.5k That's half a wedding fee for your band, isn't it?
 21.
Because of work and other commitments as a band we have previously been happy playing a limited number of gigs maybe 20 a year quite a large %age of which are weddings and have always managed to do this by word of mouth recommendations etc,. However we have now decided we would like to gig more and as our preferrd gigs are weddings we have along with agencies been looking at wedding fairs as a way of generating more bookings, just wondering how many of you attend these and if you find them useful and or worthwhile as there seem to quite a few going on at the moment and the cost doesn't seem massiely prohibitive. Also would be interested to know what you take as promo, dvd's, cd's cards posters, website info i know it's a fairly general question but would be grateful of any advice or experiences of them thanks steve
We get all our wedding bookings from our website but I'd be interested to know if wedding fairs work. I have a friend who plays solo acoustic guitar and he has tried Wedding fairs with mixed results. I'd recommend any band with a good website and limited fund to print off post card sized advertising flyers with a good picture and your website address and leaflet the cars in the car park. Or stand at the exit (on a public bit) and hand flyers to the B&G's coming out. In terms of return on investment I guess you only need one booking from a fair to make it worth the fee.
 22.
Quick bump on this thread! My band The Bedford Incident recorded three tracks last night with the BBC, was great fun! Pretty nervous but our 1st take on one of the tracks was a keeper! Spent more time setting up than playing lol - then had a nice little interview! You will be able to listen to this tomorrow, Thursday 1st October HERE, it's on the Raw Talent Show, 7pm till 10pm with Iain Hodgson. I dont expect any of you to listen to it lol, but I will be posting up our live session some time soon and would appreciate comments back on it!
"Availability: Sorry, this programme is not available to listen again."
 23.
Warwick have a castle? is that where they build their basses?
Only the Fortresses
 24.
Just had a good look through the site as im on a break and there are some seriously awesome looking basses. The red Nordy, Dingwall Jazz and W&T basses have caught my eye (why cant i have cheap taste). saying that there is a secondhand Warwick Fortress 5 there too!!!!! oh dear lord. I only need a bag for my Eden, I only need a bag for my Eden (if I keep saying it, it might work) i am actually incredibly excited now, bet something happens and we cant go after all, just my luck.
Well, if it helps, when had a Fortress 5 my band ripped the urine out of me mercilessly because of the shape of the upper horn ... and with good reason
 25.
I would also like to see the boys at W&T make a 'P' clone with a chambered ash body, I have already discussed this briefly with Enrico. Perhaps next year I may take it further. Looking forward to seeing your bass finished Simon. Cameron
thread hijack! .. sorry! Well as you know mine is a passive PJ but not a P shape.. Enrico has not suggested chambers as I want the classic p tone (er, several classic P tones if possible ) The materials are that of a super P so I suspect it will be as close as W&T want to get to a Precision. It really is starting next week, honest! I'm keen to see the black on black Ergon when it arrives at BassDirect before finalising the finish for mine as that is an option. I was supposed to be going up today with Drewie and another bass playing mate of ours but I decided not to as the W&T's aren't there. Now would not be a good time to get GAS for something else End of hijack
