The strips look like a good option. I know I'm thick but I don't understand what this means Pedro...
My guess is "at" is a typo and should read "as" .. In other words do without the plywood board the strips are stuck to. I like mine, and its board, box and handle However in our band we also have some LIDL gardeners' kneeling pads that some kit goes on on particularly boomy stages. £2 each
The Wizards are absolutely superb Si, I would say the bass sounds more 'solid' and less shy (?) in the mix. The output across the strings is much more even - the B string is noticeably much clearer and has more sustain. The bass still sounds very modern and hi-fi (slappers would love this bass) but the mids are better. Overall, I'm very pleased.
Hey great,. Yeah it was supposed to sound modern - maple board plus brass nut and small body all "help" in that area, I'm told

Gosh "Late arrival at the Shuker Mega Thread..." Here's my 5 string Precision (the one Fender copied ) Visiting the S Wales Bass Bash in Nov, of course ...
When I ordered my Status, I asked Dawn to get Rob to omit the front markers Did I want LEDs? For HOW MUCH? No thanks. Of 14 instruments, 6 of mine have NO front markers, and I don't find it a problem. It cleans up the appearance of the bass IMO
and has the added benefit of confusing guitarists trying to follow your fingers -
Sounds good .. Slow burn is better.

Or you could ask them to play half chords .. I sometimes play with a guitarist who is really a solo acoustic player. When he started playing electric he continued to play full 6 string chords with ringing open low E's etc. No one told him not to Once I got him trained to play three and four note chords, high inversions, picked arpeggios, etc, leaving the bottom to me, it all got a lot better...
Brilliant live album and I am sure that it is "how it was on the night" as there are many bits left in that would probably be taken out these days
Yeah that burp in the fantastic version of "Darlin' be home soon" is a tragedy...
I might get to this one - playing at the (not in Cardiff, really) Millenium centre lunchtime. Will probably have Clifton bass(es?)or could bring Alembic Epic fretless??
Not in cardiff really? Is that a time-space rift thing? Are you in the foyer?

There's only so much room in the tonal spectrum so if your guitarist and keys payer have a lot of bass/low mid in their sound there will be less room for you. If your keys player plays big left hand chords that will use up the space too. So ... Ask them nicely if they can thin their sound to a rediculous extent then gradually bring the bass and low mids in 'til it sounds OK. Also I suspect a GRAMMA pad would help, especially in a theatre with a boomy wooden stage - or even a GRAMMA pad each...

Wedding: Youngsters, many out of their heads before we get in(V late) to set up .. hum However it's in a big venue in Bristol, 300 capacity normally, so that's niece About 20 emails beforehand to various tech types about PA and lights. Sorry no proper PA and no PA person However there is a PA power amp and speakers but no pre's or board. Fair enough, we'll bring our full 400 watt PA(!) and they can take a lead out of the mains line out for added oomph. get here and there's a full PA, board and bloke .. however we are on a very fast setup, especially as it's all running way late by now ... why do they not listen to our advise about timing things? Anyway we setup our PA as arranged a he added some oomph ... about 15 KW or it .. He also miced the drums - we have a bass drum mic that feeds into our FoH but he mic'ed it again and put a snare and overhead up .. It worked well. It wasn't that loud but, oh boy .. what a sound Big Bad Bass Bins under the stage A treat for ears and feet My bass sounded so good that even the melodeon player noticed. It was so easy to play because I cou hear myself really well but I only had to stroke the strings to make this great noise .. I finally found the environment where all that stuff in my sig comes together and really sings .. Shame we don't play stages like that more than once every few years
AAAAHHHH! they just text me asking about a jam TODAY! i dunno if i can make it yet though, i'll ring them in a bit when i know... i was thinking they were gonna give me some songs to learn or something... i might try and have a listen through their songs and try to work out the basslines the other bassplayer wrote now, although i realise they probably wont be expecing me to do that.
They will. Learn what the guy did, or pretty close.

I think an un-improved live album would be pants. You just can't record atmosphere.

My airbass if absolutley brilliant for slapping. In fact I can slap like MK on it whereas the ones I have made of wood don't seem to respond nearly as well.

Ah an interesting question. I got fed up of being asked by Jam session leaders "so, what do you know" and thinking, "You have to sing it mate, what do you know?" So I started writing a list. A list of everything I've ever learned and played properly on stage in a band where the tune was in the set. 40 years worth. That's different to jamming tunes where I can guess that an A will be followed by a D followed by an E etc .. So the list was "tunes I can play right now or after a 5 minute refresher". So far it's up to about 500 and I'm learning new things and remembering others all the time....... So I gave the list to the various jam leaders and you know what? One of them still calls stuff I don't know rather than stuff I do ("take it easy" all the time yawwwwwwwn zzzzzzzzzzz)
i've listened to the music, the basslines shouldn't be too difficult and its good music. and thats what i thought, so what if i don't get in? i wont be in any different a situation to the one i'm in now, so i might as well go for it anyway! as for the education thing - it just depends on how big their ambitions and current level is at. i'm going to ask all this stuff at the audition (or do you think its worth me phoning the manager or something and askinig him before the audition? or asking him when he gets in contact about the audition?) but to be honest, they'd have to be doing pretty well for me to put my education on hold, theres not a massive chance of it happening at all and i'll let them know that, might as well be as honest as i can. still - its an experience!
Check it all out beforehand. Then you'll know what you'll be expected to do if you tek the gig. You may decide beforehand that you don't want the gig in which case you should not audition. It would be Ok for you to be asked but it's a pain for them if you know before you go that you don't want to join.
-
Gosh No! Really? I wonder about these gigs where you come out and they are selling a CD of that very night's gig ....

Oh that's an excellent bit of guerilla marketing for a good cause...

Roland MPU-IMC MIDI processing unit
OldGit replied to OldGit's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Ah seems I have the "breakoutbox" but no PC card .. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Roland MPU-IPC-T is a MIDI Interface from Roland Corporation aimed at IBM PC and compatibles. It is an 8-bit ISA standardized half-size card connected to a break-out box via a DB-25 connector. This card seems to be a slightly modified version of the Roland MPU-IPC card. The MPU-IPC-T model, from various images and specification charts allows the user to select different BASE address and IRQ settings, the other model does not it seems. The IRQ ranges are limited to 2 through 7 and the BASE addresses from 325h to 338h. The break-out box has three DIN connectors for MIDI, 1xIN and 2xOUT plus three mini jack 3.5mm: 1xTAPE IN, 1xTAPE OUT and 1xMETRONOME OUT This information is based on various pamphlets and brochures from Roland Corporation and personal user experience -
