Just experienced my first pangs of 'attitude' towards my instrument. From a guitarist? Weird huh? putting it down to jealousy
Envy you mean ... It will be to do with size, and the attention you're getting, I expect ...
£26.97 import tax. So it's cost me a hair over £127 all in and should be with me early next week. I reckon if I had ordered Monday it would have been delivered today. Damn weekends! Still can't decide on the pickguard though. Black, tort or just leave it white. Leaving it white is mainly a monetary concern. What started out as a £100 bass will be getting closer to £150 if I replace it. But it would look cool with black or tort. It would help if I could find out what style of plate would be the best fit, US, Mex or a generic "copy". I am also tempted to to leave it so it's 100% stock. Just to annoy the label snobs! I'd play a Tesco Value bass if i could get one! p.
Get thee to Cash Converters!
Been passing message back and forth with Si the past few days, and he's given me invaluable advice on redesigning my website, and some great marketing ideas too. Thanks for all your help Si. Am I to pay you commission when we get that "big" gig? If you want great advice, don't hesitate to ask him, you won't regret it.
ha ha I'm sure I'll think of something Sax solo somewhere?
The Fender plates need a little work round the neck pocket area, other than that, not bad fit. Im gonna leave this one white tho!!
Nooooooooooooooooooo! Tortie is The True Path for Sunburst P's
I thought you had a VMJ at one point? I'd certainly wear mine in public, and I fully intend to. If you didn't I apologise, but gear name is not the be all and end all these days, I prefer my Squier VMJ over my MIJ Fender Aerodyne.
Nah I looked at getting one for a backup bass and for my current project which is learning to read bass music but no one was selling one at a priceI'd pay. Then I had some very good luck and also discovered SX basses. The luck paid for Shuker number two and the SX's are fine for my 4 string needs. Also it's something different. I had a JV Squier P for a few years but I always played my Fender on stage. I don't mind being a bass lable snob, it's something I've become aware of as I got older... but 90% of my clothes wardrobe comes from Peacocks/Matalan/Primart
Shipping is via FedEx - $70 (£35 ish). The Fender plates need a little work round the neck pocket area, other than that, not bad fit. Im gonna leave this one white tho!! This is my 2nd purchase from Rondo and the service has been great. Products great and price....well....great!! Nice choice Paul H!!! To be honest, Im getting to the stage where I care less and less about whats written on the headstock. I think my Aerodyne is safe for now though......just!! A new set of Wizard Thumpers (thanks Andy!!) have landed on my doormat for this little beauty!!!
You have to add the import tax which comes as a nice afterthought a week later .. about £35. Speaking to my man Shuker about the Gotoh Bridges he recommends the Fenderalike one they do rather than the 201 as the cast top of the 201 doesn't always fit the brige base well and looses transmission through. The fenderalike is a lot heaveir than the standard fender bent tin. I think it's called the Gotoh Standard Bridge. I like what's written on the headstock and I'm a lable snob .. I'd not wear a Squier in pulic, even a JV ...
Only upgrades would be bridge and possibly tuners - if the pickups are anything like the 62 Jazz I've got they are quite hot.
Bridge and tuners for £50? Bit for a challenge for a five string Oh and an orange drop cap
I've got a 62 Jazz in Vintage White (think margarine, under false light it looks bright yellow...). TBH when I first got it I thought it was awful, but the more I play it, the greater respect it seems to get!! I've replaced the bridge pickup, but the neck pickup is really high output.
Ah yes I think that was the colour of NeilB's SX Jazz that passed through my hands last night en route to my mate Ash who's just bought it. It's more yellow than my "vintage white" Fender used to be - and we called that "The Custard P" - the SX has a touch of green, oddly ... I'm still waiting for my used SX P from a bloke in Colorado .. I think the US or UK postal service has eaten it ... I've been playing the unmodified SX Jazz I used to have at the jam session I go to where my tutor (who now has it) is the house bass player. There's 4 or 5 good bass players who regularly attend and they are all well impressed with it. I think a few more orders will be popping up from around here...
I'm selling a few items on ebay that will let me buy a Lakland, and maybe a 5er or fretless too (maybe even both...). If I set a budget of £200 for each, what would be the best buy? I'm thinking a Squier VM for the fretless, but what about the five string...only ever played one - a Vintage that was absolutlely disgustingly crap Wouldn't want to spend much in case I don't get on with either.
All the rock bottom 5 strings I've played have not really done very well in the B string department but you might like to try the yamahas... eg Yamaha BB 415 (around 220) or an SX Jazz 5? About 150 to get it here from Rondo, leaves you £50 for the upgrades... May be a challenge but possible with used stuff from ebay
Was planning on using my new SX Jazz as an everyday bass, but slipped with the screwdriver when changing the scratchplate...so my work beater bass is an SX Jazz with tortoiseshell scratchplate, gotoh bridge, hipshot ultralites and upgraded pickups...must learn not to go near a bass with a screwdriver...(did a similar thing with a strat last year )
Which SX Jazz do you have or what was it when you started, I mean. We should start a sub plot for SX maniacs

I love it when that happens on here .. So much stuff out there that we never get to hear. I can't hear the bass enough to tell but it looks like he uses his fingers on stage:
It seems "the best luthier in the country" hits some of his instruments very hard with an ugly-stick ... And that's my opinion, not necessarily a fact
Well it may have been what the customer asked for of course - that's what custom luthiers do. Some will say "You must be joking mate, I'm not building that or if I do I'm certainly not putting my name on it and you must not tell anyone I built it" But then others may need the work ...

Eude
Looks more like a real functional bass guitar. The orginal looks like a short scale crapola thing and probably sounds wonderful in that old crapola way they do ... It's still going to neck dive though ...
www.jimfleetingguitars.com the guys in Ripon, and hes the best in the UK. And thats not an opinion, its a fact.
A fact eh, Ross? I'd like to see your proofs young man, and have them peer reviewed in a respected journal. Looks like that Ibanez is the chappie, at least have a go on one before committing a load of wonga (like at least 5 times as much) to a custom project, especially a US based one Naturally I'd support the suggestion that Jon Shuker would be a good option but, as has been pointed out, other makers are available - about 30 or so in the UK alone ...

"Another unique feature is a Modeling control on the receiver that selects between 16 DSP-enhanced bass settings, adding sonic versatility to an already outstanding bass wireless system." er Modeling in your wireless system? Why? Left over bits of Superfly? Oh by the way I love thir drugs related naming convention What next? The Craic Head? The Skunk Funk Combo?
