1.
The answer is buy British! Only problem is I can't stretch to John Shuker's price for a JJB Precision
Course you can ... Once ordered you have about 9 months to save up and sell your other P basses ...
 2. So the credit crunch and general reduction in buying isn't holding these prices down?
 3. +1 on fugly Goodness .. How can you make basses for 60 years and still get the headstock string paths wrong?
 4.
.... founded Randall Amps (say Ta, all you metallers). Unsung hero.
Ah I did wonder .. I've got a pre-metal Randall Bi-amp head ... .
 5.
Wow. your avatar scrubs up well. I think shes just blown Jessica Rabbit out the water.
ha ha yeah I couldn't resist bit of a change from the old train spotter's Deltic There's a japanese manga girl avatar playing a jazz on here somewhere too
 6. +1 no agent, once you have played a few gigs in the right places you can buid on that and fill your diary. Get sorted with a good website aimed directly at that market, get a marketing pack together and get on the phone direct to the people that d the booking in the places you want to play. Find out who they have that's like you so you can say "we're rather like band name but with two women singers" so they have a hook to hang you on. Do not undercharge or you will spend ages trying to get up to normal rates .. On point though, if you already have a reputation/following as a pub or club band then choose a new band name and use that just for your corperate gigs. Keep the two markets seperate. It might be an idea to read the playing weddings thread as there's loads of relevant tips in there.
 7.
I think Old Git had a scarf (or was it .......a cravat?) damping the strings but I might be wrong. I use a block of foam (the same stuff that lines equipment boxes). I found the strings ring out and the harmonics interfere with the clean note. Damping removed the problem immediately.
ha ha Skull and crossbones head scarf I use for winter cycling, actually .. I do that to stop the strings at that end joining in. I'm not slapping though ...
 8. They hinted that the "unseen geniuses" would be the subject of next week's programme. I suspect The Funk Brothers will be in that one ... and Carole Kaye ...
 9.
Also OldGit, I see your Avatar and raise you a Jazz!
ha ha Mine has a bass like my Japanes P bass. I specifically like the detail of the rear of headstock strap peg ... Odd isn't it .. I don't think Western cartoonists even know basses exist And there FLCL who plays (or at least carries and fights with) a bright blue lefty Ric 4001
 10.
HEHE yeah, its the only way I know of Mark. He's a member of Lotus on Track who run Lotus specific trackdays which is what I do. They also have their own race series which is what Mark does and Ashdown sponsors the series. I have a British Racing Green Lotus Elise S1 and Mark did have a Lotus 340R which is based on an Elise. Not sure if he still has it though but it was black and gold I think and looked lush. As for the Elise, yeah, its a superb car. It's funny though as you get two reactions, either expensive sports car or unreliable sports car. To be honest, its neither. My Elise, has mini metro wing mirrors, a cheap £5 rear view mirror, Renault gearbox, Rover engine, Vauxhall indicator stalks and Peugeot dash buttons. It's cheaper for me to run an Elise than it was my Renault Megane on service, parts, tax and fuel. Its just not as practical Anyway, we should get this back onto topic and away from cheap plastic sports cars :)
Lotus: Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious I had 18 years with a Caterham 7 ..
 11.
The e-Petitions site is an experiment in public consultation set up by the Prime Minister's office in 2006. The government does respond to every petition completed, usually with a "yes, but ..." email, but there is no commitment to take them into account in formulating policy. There is also no way of bringing an e-petition formally to the notice of Parliament, unlike a paper petition, which can be presented to the House by an MP during an adjournment debate. Even so, experienced campaigning groups much prefer to get supporters to write to ministers and/or their MP, as that requires the MP to make a personal response and generally gets more notice. In 2007 there was an investigation by the Commons Procedure Select Committee which concluded that an e-petition sponsored by an MP should have the same status as a paper petition, but that doesn't seem to have got any further. So, regardless of how serious the level meter issue actually is, signing the e-petition is, at best, a waste of time. You'll be in good company, too. If there's something you're really concerned about, write to your MP or the relevant minister.
If a wise person could draft a letter to send to our MP's that takes into account all the facts then we could all send them in. Lots of individual letters is generally a [s]bigger irritant[/s] more effectve campaign method.
 12. Don't worry, the punters will love it. It's a class tune
 13. Shuuuush! Love a copy please Shuuuuuush!
 14.
Entwhistle???/
Oooops, Sorry Neil. I hope your blood pressure didn't rise too sharply By way of an apology here's a picture of the man and his Arsedown rig
 15.
It seems every weekend in my local there's at least one table of blokes who can't talk without shouting, and like to laugh especially loud to show what a fun-loving bunch of stupid twats they are. They must peak well over 70db. Does this mean they can be thrown out into the street? If so I'm all for it.
Yeah they should be plugged into the unit so that power is redirected from the stage power to their ................... when they exceed 70db
 16.
I used to use 'em, but these days I much prefer the understated looks of shower hose washers. I use them on all my basses (from the Heavy Ash '81 Precision to the Ashborys). They're smaller in diameter and slightly thinner than Grolsch washers and are a matt black rather than bright red, so are better for a stealth or vintage look. They hold just as well as the grolsch ones, and similarly are best if the strap is left on the bass more-or-less permanently.
ah but ... half the point is to have that cool "Grolsch waser" look, isn't it?
 17. Excellent! Thanks Elom
 18.
Yeah its 99p here, along with a bottle of Bud. petrol going up again though.
Life, eh?

http://www.americanguitarsuk.com/bassshop/fenderB.php Quite like the URL "American Guitar Suk" .. I didn't think they were that bad
 20.
Mark, we have a shop near where I live that has contacts all round the world. They have been established for years, and can get anything. Also, they get things at stupidly cheap prices somehow. They deliver as well. Do you want me to get their number so you can guve them a ring, or are you set?
Think we all want the number of that shop

 23. " ....Middle England (the old gits who moan about "young people's racket in pubs")," OldGits rule My noise problem in pubs is usually caused by middle aged bands playing Bad Company/Free/Cream/Keiser Cheifs/Zep covers way too loud for the venue's size and audience comfort... I must say I'd hate to work behind the bar in the couple of places I'm thinking of near me. It must be really wearing. Of course, if you do wear earplugs in this environment you can hear people ordering drinks perfectly well .. I am amazed that no one has picked up on this
 24. I'm not an Ashdown knocker but they don't work well for my ears. However I've had a number of contacts with Mark Gooday over the years and it's always been a pleasant experience. Absolutely great to see a small business can survivve amongst the mayhem. There is no doubt tthat the service ethic and access to the decision makers is part of that. Well done Ashdown and thanks to Si for telling us the story. I hope they give you and endorsement deal .. nice Entwhistle rig sir? No problem
