1. Whenever I've been responsible for the dosh aspects of this kind of gig the PRS always came off the overall earnings from the door before the split between the band and the venue.
 2.
Actually, the only thing that annoys me more than mucking around setting up is mucking around taking it down. The, "oh we'll just go for a smoke", "we'll just go and talk to our mates" etc. effect. No you won't. Take it down, put it in the van, I'll go home and you can do whatever you like
As the official "punter relations" guy I absolutely hate it when our drummer plays his last crash and then goes looking for the stage striplights as fast as he can, and get the hump if people don't strip their gear down as fast as possible. That first 15 minutes after we've finished I go schmoozing the crowd and punters and staff of the venue and it can get us loads of future bookings .. so that's a lot more important than getting home 15 minutes early.
 3. 4/5 piece with all using backline plus in the FOH and monitors and lights. There's also a couple of people playing several instruments so each of those has to be sound checked and balanced etc. We like 2 hours, and most of that is pulling the gear in from the cars and plugging it all in. If it all goes well we then get 20 mins or so to run through new tunes and stuff before the doors are opened and the punters come in. I hate sound checking on front of the punters.
Life's too short, there's more important things (like Beer) to be doing (aka Drinking)
I'd rather be playing, warming up and getting the sound just right than drinking beer any day ... YMMV
 4. All of it. I play Baritone sax too so that influences my melody input - from the low solos on Walk on the Wild Side and Shine on You crazy Diamond to Motown burps and short pop solos...
 5. Aha! Timing! Neck thickness of the Ric 4001 and P bass? ie the "depth" between the fingerboard and back of the neck ? I guess they don't have that Cheers
 6. Make your own Fender style logo decal http://caraguitars.com/make_fender_decal.asp
 7.
Hi havn't got a micrometer thingy, but here goes... 1976 4001 Scale 84.5mm Nut width 41mm 12th Fret width 53mm Radius 25.4mm Neck depth 3rd 21mm 5th 22mm 12th 23mm
Oh Mr D'arcy!! Thanks, that's great.
 8. You may want to have a trawl through this thread from Talkbass http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=499506 ... and the Basschat Wiki - it's full of helpful stuff. You'll find the link up at the top right of these pages, close to the search thing
 9. It appears to be worth the effort if you band is even convincing you to keep it
 10.
I rest me case. Bloody stupid response. Course she does, even if she only says 'I've got my timbres sorted, but I want the pads to sit in the mix like they do in this track' would be better. Musicians are the bane of engineers lives
I am sure you know this but it's because recording is a totally different game to playing live. So different that it shoud be considered a whole different skill. Most people have never had to think about any of the things you are talking about . I've done sessions where none of this was considered or mentioned - well not to me anyway. How about giving bands some guidance when they book - back to the leaflet idea again, or a web page - say a list of "things you can do to mak ethe session go better, to end up with a better end result and to save time and money" That shoudl encourage them to read it Sad an FAQ with "What can I do to help the producer" as one of the questions .. Then they can think about bvs, effect chains, arrangements, etc before they turn up and at least you could say "did you RTFL?" (read the f'n leaflet)
 11. Stage volume is often dictated by the drummer and that's a problem. I can appreciate the situation they are in when playing an acoustic kit. It would be like playing a bass rig with no volume controls, just on full the whole time. You get used to a way of playing that feels right but then you have to change that to fit the rest of the band. Some gigs you'd be playing normally but at some you'd have to gentle brush the strings with a feather to be at the right volume. Tricky. I may never say this again but (deep breath) it's can't be easy playing an acoustic drum kit at the right volume for each venue.
 12.
This is just a bit of a stretch, if you ask me. Screws - £8.75 each + shipping.
Been here before. Genuine screws from a '62 strat can make hundreds of pounds difference to the value of the whole instrument for collectors .. how you tell they are genuine is another story
I think the wallpaper in general is cause for concern, all that money spent on basses and a lack of decent decor
Totally correct priorities
 14. Rich came over and tweaked my knobs for me. That was really helpful too as I didn't really understand some of the stuff I was using. Mark at Bass Direct is good too, even at a distance ... Maxrossell, you should write a leaflet ...
 15.
I hope not! He's playing down here (Falmouth) on the 28th of May. I'm planning to go.
Yeah, Just noticed his posters here when I went in for my Norman and his Blockheads tickets ... mind you he does look fragile ... and ... BB King on Newsnight tonight. 80 something and still playing. That man is so cool I like the fact that he can say "I don't do chords" and no one laughs at him You may be able to get it on the BBC's "watch again" thing.
 16.
I do some production occasionally, but I'm not sure that your guitar players would appreciate some random guy telling them how to set their amps up
Actually my chaps are not your average guitarist and they know they are wandering about in the dark a bit ... They both need a nudge to play their solos loud enough How rare is that? I'm a fan of an "effects" rehearsal where you just work out what effects you'll be using and then spend time setting them up and trying it in a band (albeit rehearsal) situation.
 17. As spotted by Stever-soar One of Professor Dumbledoor's specials Here ....
 18. Nah probably is worth that, in terms of "it's worth what some twit will pay" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumble_Amplifiers
 19.
I've got a reliced hipshot that would do the job nicely; looks like it's spent the last 30 years on Lemmy's main gigging bass and on it's night off been out drinking with Keith Moon and Oliver Reid. Yours looks like it's been to church with Cliff Richard a couple of times
Why should the devil have all the good d-tuners??
 20.
Most Beatles songs I've tried seem to be pretty 'straight' tunings.
Pretty straight producer
 21.
I have found with a P/J set up that the J p/up is either on or off with noreal blend to speak of. I guess this is down to the power of the P p/up. However, with the P/P config I can hear 3 different blend options on each p/up not including off and the bridge p/up isn't a nasal as J p/up, as you'd expect.
Ok That's clear ..
 22. "the (possibly soon-to-be late) Johnny Winter" is he ill? The late Jeff Healy Spotify radio 60's 70's "blues"
 23.
1971 I think ! Scroll around this page and site, it may be of help to you. http://www.rickenbacker.com/catalog_poster...cf84-bass-6.jpg
Thanks The missing measurement is teeh main one really, that "dimension C", thickness at third, fith and 12th fret. I know they are wide and slim but just how slim?
 24. Don't offer this as a service do you? Both the guitarists I play with have no idea of how to work their gear.
