Flat recommendations and advice for PBass
Basszilla replied to Basszilla's topic in Accessories and Misc
So...I think it's a toss up between Labellas and TI, leaning toward the Labellas. My bass is a string through body 04 US Pb. With that said, is there a particular set I should go for? -
HI all Recent convert to using flats on a pbass - great sound. Any recommendations? Soundwise - I like a nice full and warm bottom end and the string needs to be flexible. I use both fingers and pick. Scale wise - is there anything I should bear in mind when purchasing them? I string them through body on my 2004 pbass. Cheers Tim

Great basschatter - excellent comms all through the purchase of his pbass. Buy with complete confidence. Top bloke!

Thanks guys, cab suggestions sound great. Both sound interesting. How is the retro volume wise? Is it going to stand up against a loud guitarist and drummer? Nice sound? I like the idea of a portable two driver cab...just makes life easier getting in and out of the car with rehersals etc. I had a berg nv610 years ago which was a lovely cabinet, but I think I'd be more interested in giving the barefaced cabs a whirl.

Hi all Not posted in an age, so here I am with a question for the BC masses... I'm a long time matamp user(gt200mk1 and 610) and I absolutely love the sound my setup gives me. However, it is pretty darn heavy, and coupled with the load in/load out routine I am struggling to get about as quickly as I'd like to. Carting a 610 single handedly up the steps to my house is just overkill on my aging frame. What can I get in a lightweight set up that will get me 90% of the way there soundwise? I'm so out of touch with the gear market since getting my matamp I've no idea what's out there these days. Music is mainly loud metal/hard rock, but I do like to record hiphop bass for a side project. My requirements :- *500watts *Fat clear sound with ability to take pedals well *210/410 w/jack AND speakon connect *Cab to pair with my valve head occasionally I'm quite open to suggestion cab wise but it's got to sound good with my valve amp and be lightweight. Maybe a 210? A 215? Cheers all Tim

Using good monitors is definitely a big help, so you can hear what's going on in the lows. I'm using a pair of adam aX7 I had second hand from a friend, they are great for 80Hz and up. For me, on the basis of my current projects, I always just DI the bass and process later. It's true, the tone is pretty much in your fingers. Performance, timing and intonation is everything when it comes to getting a vibe right. EQ is the biggest tool, carving up sounds to help them slot into the spectrum better. I cut away most of what isn't needed. LPF and HPF are your friend. Subtractive EQ is important for getting sounds where they need to be. I'm usually to be found recording hip hop bass tracks these days and can get 99% of the way there with just the performance and a good ear.

Bluebeard fuzz, great pedal and Sonny is a great guy to deal with. Also love the zoom ultra fuzz for that gated sound. Love fuzz!

They are without doubt the best basses out there. Been playing Spector for 15 years now and nothing else gets that tone!!! So versatile and hi def. Snappy with a magnificent bottom end.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen to us!

Thanks Sean Having owned a 400+ in the past, I can understand your love for yours. They are great great amps. You'll be happy with Matamp. Jeff's a beaut! Plus it's so nice to be able to meet and speak with the guys that build them I wouldn't have it any other way. I love my gt200. Cash permitting I think I'd commission a matamp combo, 100w. Need to make the pilgramage oop norf again soon, Steve needs his gt120 revalved.

Cheers Sean! Thanks for buying the ep and for your kind comments! Honestly it means a lot! I engineered and produced the ep myself so had bags of fun putting it all together. My friend in Florida mixed it though as he's got the edge. Hope everything is well with you Sean

xilddx Thanks for listening and taking time out to comment! Only just saw that you'd replied I'd say what distinguishes us the most are our daft Welsh accents No, on a serious note.... Good question though! I'd say what distinguishes us the most, is that the core members of the band have been playing music together for a long time, almost 15 years. Our music is definitely our personal antithesis to a lot of things going on in our lives and heads..So what you're hearing is an accurate portrayal of us through the medium of music. We've always existed outside of any direct 'scenes' and as such find ourselves struggling to get gigs or even fit in. We generally end up playing gigs with totally mismatched bands, but still enjoy playing live regardless. At least we're doing things our way is what I keep telling myself. I quite enjoy it that way as well. Doesn't really answer your question that well though does it lol ATB Tim

Hi all, I've uploaded my band's new EP 'Argonauts' to our bandcamp page, as well as our debut album from 2009. We're a metal/hardcore band from South Wales. I used my spector euro lx bass throughout on the new ep. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Much love Tim x www.argonautmetal.bandcamp.com

Nice :-) always fancied a green one myself! Running mine through a matamp gt200 and matamp 610

Yeah they're total classics in their own right. Not sure how much they are new nowadays, but i remember paying £1k back in 2004 for mine. Yeah i may stick a detuner on there, but then again I don't mind muting my bass via tuner to tune. Main reason I wanted to try the 35" scale is the improved intonation in drop D. Got a fresh set of high beam to stick on and it could do with a wax. Time for it's yearly m.o.t soon!!

Would love to try one of those as i'm frequently back and forth between e and d. The necks are indeed sublime. Nice thick fretboard on them. Like the narrow string spacing as well.
