  1. Nice. Have you got the version with the boost as well then? During last night's tracking I brought the ratio down to around 5:1 with a slow attack and fast release. Pulling 16db at absolute peaks. Sounded great. New strings on the pbass. The song is a mix of fingerstyle and slap and it kept my volume in check moving between them. I tend to leave the unit in high gain mode. Have you messed around with the jumpers inside the unit at all? From what I understand there are three options gain wise. I haven't touched mine but may take it off my board and experiment with them.
  2. If you play fingerstyle then play between the neck and the neck pup. I always find that gives me a lot of meat on the track. Find the spot that delivers the best lows and you're golden.
  3. Yes they are excellent. I am using mine for tracking a new album I'm doing. Pbass>cali76>SFT>board and a mic on the cab. Sounds great. I think during the next recording session I'm going to bring the ratio closer to 4:1 and slow my attack down a bit to let the note pop through before the action. As you say, I can drive the input/output to fine tune the sound from there . Cracking bit of kit.
  4. Matamp GT200, set & forget. Thunder ensues.
  5. Super ape for me is just a killer album. Love that heavy tripped out dub sound. I often listen to that album on my way to jam with my new band.
  6. It's a nice comp kiwi, pulling up to 16db at peaks when I dig in but it doesn't sound like it. From what I can gather, lots of people are around 4:1 and for good reason, but I've also used it around 8:1 to great effect. It's great because you can play soft passages below the threshold without triggering the comp and it then responds effectively when you dig in and exceed the threshold.
  7. Any users on here? Just wondering what settings people use...more out of curiosity than anything. Ratios/attack/ release etc. Anyone do any recording using the di and high gain mode? At the moment I'm using mine as a second channel for an album I'm recording. The other channel has a NS10 speaker inverted on my cab with a sft hooked up after the cali in the signal chain. Serious weight on the sound.
  8. I thought you meant my amp, reread it and then clicked. Decided I'd leave it unedited to get your cogs turning 😂
  9. Cheers guys some food for thought there. I should really think about flight casing my baby as well... Thanks Tim
  10. Cheers both, yeah I think a thick sorbathane sheet would do the trick. Will have to source some and get it cut to size. Thanks
  11. Hi guys, Does anyone know for a good product that would dampen vibrations / isolate my amp from my cab? I have a very heavy and large matamp gt200 and want to isolate it to extend valve life etc. I've just upgraded my kt88s to kt120, larger power valves. I'm looking for something that I can place on top of my cab and I really can't be bothered to make one 😃 Edit: Something I could order to size would be a ideal. Cheers Tim
  12. My rig is extremely heavy, even the head alone is just silly (Matamp gt200+610). The sound it makes is utterly incredible. I have stupidly managed to singlehandedly lift it out of the car and up my front steps on a few occasions, never again. At present, it is left set up at the studio I jam at, as we are mid way through tracking an album and can only get in once or twice a week to actually record so it's pointless dismantling it right now. I need to get a lightweight option to use 90% of the time for those very reasons. Soon as cash is available I will be investing. Those mesa subways look the business.
  13. These are awesome pedals... Pretty hard to beat. If you're after a top quality compressor this is the one to snag.. Had one on my board for a few months and well, they are great. I use mine a lot for home recording straight into my interface. Have a bump on me
  14. Pbass for 80% Spector Euro 4lx for the other 20%. It used to be the other way around but I tend to use my spector for lots of home recording now instead. She has loads of presence in a mix.
  15. Yes just home use, just a stand that I can keep my basses out and safe on, without taking up a large footprint. Likely position in a corner.
  16. Well it would be for a Spector euro and a Fender P. I think I'd rather go with the back to back double stand so I'm guessing the Hercules would be the likely candidate? Anyone with a similar set up? Though I like the idea of a traditional 'in a row' stand as well. Cheers guys
  17. Hi guys, Just sorted my music room out and am on the hunt for a nice stand that will take two basses comfortably. Has anyone got any recommendations? What's on the market these days? Hercules still the go-to stand for this application? Cheers Tim
  18. I've been using a Marshall 410 something or other combo recently in rehearsals while I wait for my Matamp to be fixed. To be honest it sounds great! Cali76tx and sft into the front end and it gets me to my usual sweet spot. I'm able to shift from dub reggae sounds through to funk and all the way into heavy territory just by altering my right hand and/or using a plectrum, and the amp copes admirably. No complaints from me
  19. Thanks for the info Gary, I shall look into upgrading my pbass with one of the looms.
  20. Can I ask what difference the wiring loom has made to the sound? I've got a pbass and was wondering what the upgrade actually does so that I can have a go as well. Do you replace the pots as well as part of the upgrade? Gorgeous bass btw
  21. Sad news. Thoughts go out to the families and friends
  22. Yeah the tech will check everything and rebias for me. If I don't have any joy I'll give you a shout. I'm based about 12 miles from Cardiff in the valleys.
