Yes, unfinished.
Thought so. It may have just been at the mercy of the eliments then. A luthier might have been able to fix it by (re)sealing it in properly. But it's neither hear nor there now you got it sorted.
 2. It is possible but results vary. I use an alcolhol bassed stains and apply with a cloth not a brush. Look to do it in a couple of passes at most so don't put too much on your cloth. Move fast and with the grain when you go for it or you will end up with "water-marks".
 3.
Really really helpful guy. I bust the truss rod on my OLP and with a load of very helpful guidance from Ou7shined via a technical thread, PMs and even a maple patch in the post (made to order) I managed to replace it and get the bass back to working order. Thanks Ou7shined. You are a great guy and I am extremely gratefull.
No probs. Glad to have helped.
 4. Who's waiting for the pics so they can point out a slightly misaligned p/g screw and say to send it back.
I bought a brand new 3EQ Stingray back in 1998 and the neck would never settle. It would constantly be going out of tune and was just unplayable. I contacted Musicman who asked me to take it to Strings and Things. They looked at it and said the maple was too soft and just replaced the neck there and then. Never had a problem since.
Out of interest was it an unfinished (ie. no varnish on the rear) neck?
 6. Be advised, replacing wire and pots isn't an upgrade... unless something is broke. There are those who will be adamant that they can hear the difference... maybe you will be one of the lucky ones? Capacitors on the other hand will play a part. 0.047 caps are nice in a bass but if you want to bleed off less highs go for something with a smaller value. Again, the cap has no tonal effect (re "upgrade") in the full treble position. Toneriders are ok but not much better than any other low end pup. Wizards are supposed to be a decent upgrade.. again I personally find them a little samey (not a popular thing to say on BC). If you really want to hear the difference it would be worth saving up a little extra and getting second hand expensive jobs Fralins, Delanos etc... my current favourite P pup is the DiMarzio.
 7.
Ah sod it! - pulled.
Holy cow man. I'm sorry if bringing up the site rules has made you have this ott reaction. You're better off keeping it anyway. Mine is a year yonger (same spec though) and I love it.

 10. Oh! I just deleted a post and it came up with a box say something like the post was deleted but not deleted and that mods can still read it and there was an area in the box which seemed to require me to type something in it. Can we have this new extruded process explained please? What was wrong with the old "delete it and be done with it" button?
 11.
Two separate pro luthiers told me to do this .....
Well here's another one saying it's all guff. It would be fine if wood was as mailable as metal and could be permanently bent into shape by these tiny forces and distances but it's not. Under these conditions it is extremely elastic stuff. Yes wood can "move" after the fact but that is more down to how it wants to rest because of it's own unique make up (possibly not being seasoned long enough before working on) reacting to it's environment. If for arguments sake you wanted to induce a "natural" back bow to a neck you'd have to go through a lot of pissing about to achieve it - overly bending it (to allow for an amount of spring back) and steaming it under compression and whatnot ... and even then it needn't be permanent - simply leaving it for a month or two with the t/r cranked up won't cut it. People sometimes don't get just how little the t/r moves under operation - speaking of which the term "back bow" should be understood to be a term used to describe a direction of movement, not to scare the bejebus out of folk with tales of permanent damage. It's unfortunate you mistook some of what I said before (and I can understand why, with you having already consulted 2 luthiers about the exact same subject over the same bass ) and I'll say no more on the matter. If loosening the t/r works for you then fine... the fact is that it would have worked fine without it too... it is a tiny concern and is certainly not worth any of us getting our knickers in a twist over.
 12.
I made an innocent inquiry to if the owner of the bass would sell it as I dont have anything to trade, can I now not accept the deal the owner stated? At some point a cash price would have to be put on this bass, even by PM as if a trade where offered, both parties would have to agree on any adjustment either way? Sorry, I do not want to do anything against site rules, but again, it simply was an innocent inquiry about purchasing it.
As Mel said above for reasons of universal fairness the forum rules are that a price must be posted in all FS threads - there have been cases in the past where members were invited to "bid" for a bass on here which is both unethical and unfair to the person who gets in first (which is the way it's done (supposedly) around here. But as the OP has stated that he is open for trades only....
Oops! Sorry guys! For trade only!
.... I can't see how there is a deal to be accepted or not...... Ooh unless someone's telling porkies.
 13.
Should be fixed!
Thankyou.

 15.
......* As long as it's a 5 string coffee-table bass through a micro head into Barefaced cabinets.
Now you're talking. Haha cheers. Btw playing bass is what I do as part of my job now so I have already been there today. (it's tough life I know )
 16.
Ill give it a try EDIT: Cant see how to do it now. Using FF8 and IE9 (both normal and compatability mode)
I can see the button in PMs but not in normal threads now. All I see are the "Report - Edit - MultiQuote - Quote" buttons. Weird eh.
 17. I've lost a button. Can we not delete our own posts anymore?
 18.
There's an 'unfollow this topic' button at the top of the page....
Yeah sorry, cheers. I'm in a very dark place regarding this forum at the moment.
 19.
...I'd feel like a plank sitting in the dressing room or out in the audience while the band soldiered on without me....
Hey, the show must go on.
 20. If push really came to shove, most bands can play on without a bass*... just as much as I could do without this dumb "we're right and you lot are unprofessional" thread popping up in my in-box all the bloody time. They'd still get paid and more to the point most punters probably wouldn't even notice. *set re-order may be require
 21.
Please could you pm me with a cash price for this bass Cheers

Done and done.
This is sooooo against forum rules. Prices must be made public or risk losing the listing.
 22.
OK. What you suggest makes sense. Will have a go later. (BTW thanks again for the patch. With a bit of sanding it fitted fine and looks pretty good).
Good stuff.
 23.
Ha. Already shimmed at the bottom of the heel so should I take this out and then keep tightening the rod? Bit worried it might snap again...
Haha yeah take it out. Don't be afraid to turn it. The chances of snapping a second one are slim... he was a decent welder wasn't he?
