Pre-EB MusicanStingRay Electronics Fault
Looks to me as if the pick-up is too far back. Please can you take off the scratch plate and take a photo of the bare body from the neck to the bridge.
Surely the p/g wouldn't fit if this were the case. I'd be interested to see what lies beneath none the less. :brow: -

Yup it'll fit. (it might be prudent to check centre to centre dimensions on the side screws to be absolutely certain) Your body isn't string through anyway. -

It's definitely a step in the right direction and as your bass isn't original, does it matter to you if it's not string through. Pics would be good before taking it any further - I once saw a bridge that had the front end sawn off described as being in good condition. The bridges can be screwed down at the back but there also 2 large bolts which locate into bushes that are pre-installed into the body. You should whip off your bridge to see if your body has them. -
I say go for it. You won't get your money back on it but there's nothing quite like getting up on stage and delivering the goods on a bass you've built or put together yourself. You'll find plenty of replacement necks on the market (Dr Parts, Mighty Mite, Allparts, Warmoth - ascending price order) but most follow Fender standard size fit. You'll need to check the size of your no-name neck pocket. Generally it is easier to buy a new (non drilled) neck then you can place the screw holes exactly to your bass. Regarding electrics there's not much you can do with a P bass - you might find a tiny active pre to fit the cavity but chance are it will be pants. Alternatively you could splash out on a John East P pre but then it is probably worth 6 times that of the bass. Pups? Bang in a Wizard and you'll be cooking on gas. Good luck.

Yeah EBMM don't sell spares and because people so seldom customize or change anything on their MMs the market for second hand parts is sparse to say the least. It is possible to get replacment parts for worn or broken items but this service is only extended to those with whole basses and a serial. When I bought that '06 pup I'd been waiting for about a year for one to come onto the market and in the end I did some detective work and chased it up myself. MM is nothing like Fender (the company). -

You'll be lucky to get an MM bridge let along a pre-EB. And I doubt the mighty sages on the EB forum will be forthcoming. Your best bet is to set up an ongoing worldwide search on t'bay and keep your fingers crossed - for some reason MM parts seem to come up more often in Canada. Of course for a quick fix, there are plenty of non MM cheapo replacements out there, which although will help your new pickguard fit properly and look a bit nicer, will also leave you in the same predicament regarding originality and possibly loss of tone. -

I bought a 2006 'ray pup recently for £50 and fitted it for free - I also have an original '78 'ray pup which I bought off US ebay for under £50 just for a rainy day. Anyway that 595 'ray has the original included in the deal once he finds it. I'm not criticising your bass (providing the neck, which has already had work on it for a known Sabre issue, holds out) far from it man. I'm more at odds with your "mate" flipping it for such a mark up. With friends like that who needs enemas. -
Now I used to think they were £600 but they have been creeping up in price recently, depending on condition. The 2000 one I was looking at was £650, others have been £700 but I haven't seen one go for £600 for at least a year. This is true, if a bass is right for you then the price doesn't matter However, looking at this one at the Gallery (http://www.thebassgallery.com/product_details.cfm?ID=1291) which is up for £1,600. Others might have paid the same for a newer one but I do like my mojo on basses. The condition is very similar to the one I have, the only difference is the bridge is original. Considering mine was less than half the price, I'll take it I've posted on the EB forum about a bridge and emailed MM Customer Services about a new one from their classic series. Any other places to look? I just fancy having those mutes, as well as the look.
There's one on here for £595 (not original pup but it is included) And the 'ray you linked to - the differences are that it is older, all original and not a bitsa. -
... considering most StingRays are now going for £700 minimum...
Try 600. (and that's for a fully working all original 'ray)
... He bought it for that price from that thread and probably could have sold it for more privately....
I'm not so sure... but hey if you love it and feel it's worth that much that's what counts the most. -

Dude I really hope I'm wrong but that doesn't sound like much of a deal at all. Something similar that sold on here recently for about 500 earth quids. -
I don't know this tuner off hand but maybe you have just discovered it's limitations regarding the lower frequencies. Obviously a harmonic note is a high frequency and your tuner has no problems with them. Drop D is a real easy tuning to do on the fly anyway just pluck your open D string then your E then bring your E in to tune - you could do all this on the corresponding 5th or 7th fret harmonics too depending on ambient room noise.

Black with a rosewood board is a combo that's not often seen. Good luck with the sale. -

I does sound a little like you have a short to earth somewhere which is causing the circuit to momentarily blink out. Don't play it anymore until you have checked it over thoroughly as you may be doing irreparable damage. -
I've been singing the praises of OLP for a long time now, and stand by it! Weak is the last word i'd use to describe the sound of mine, i've had a better music man tone out of it that some of the real deals! Think you got a mighty lemon..
I'd love to hear that. A bass that can do a better MM tone than a MM can.

Ok fair enough but you're just talking about using different sets of stirrups on the same pony.

How do I convert a Jazz to Active?
Ou7shined replied to popitinpete's topic in Repairs and Technical
Is Varitone active? I always thought it was just a passive array of caps and resistors. -
She looks gorgeous.
That mod looks really good but for me the L2000/2500 has enough options, i'll only get even more confused.
Yeah it confuses the hell out of me too but Matt (Neepheid) seems to be on top of it.

A modern sound to me would be flat nondescript sound but could fit into most genres of music without particularly blowing anyones fringe back. The Lollar captures the old school P sound but delivers in buckets. Hi-fi is just a clear top end kit with an open sound scape usually aided with expensive pre-amps. I presume you aren't too close to Aberdeen. I could let you hear the Lollar up against the SCPB-1 and SCPB-3 that I have in my parts box. There's no contest.
I guess a great amount of thump but with a bit more tone than a standard Precision. I loved the sound of the Fret King, which had a P/J pickup combo. All the punch of a Precision but with a bit more warmth and a bit more tone clarity.
Definitely the Lollar then. The SD's are ok but are kind of flat and definitely more modern sounding than the Lollar. I played my Shuker (with Lollar) at the Moffat bash and guys were stunned by it's powerful and clear P tone - and this is from guys with an ear for significantly more complex and hi-fi sounding basses. This might sound odd seeing as these are more often than not replace by SD's but a close second for me was the original Fender '51 RI pup. It is way louder and a bit more clankier than the SD's but that's easily be tamed with a decent set of flats - you can pick up a good one for under £30 - a bad one could be full of sweat or had the top piece ripped off by an inexperienced thumb or even be afflicted by the dreaded quiet E pole syndrome.
There is one German supplier, station music (sells for Euro 99, so about £90) - here's the link http://www.station-music.de/gitarre/gitarr.../lollar_pu.html
I need to find my receipts but I'm pretty sure mine came cheaper direct from Lollar including shipping.
