Some Direct Drive Audio Technica turntables have an adjustable pre-amp. Is there a switch at the back..? If going into a 'Line' input, the 'Line' switch position should do the job. If there's no such switch, the turntable probably has a 'Phono' output, which needs either the 'Phono' input of your amp, or a separate pre-amp (for boosting and for RIAA EQ correction, as mentioned above...).

I have many anecdotes and stories concerning my 'commercial' dealings, both as acquirer and supplier. You may be surprised at some of them. My Ford Granada Estate, for instance (a very long story...), the Peugeot 403 ex-Gendarmerie ambulance, or the Peugeot 404 Estate that supplied its engine..? I've had several amps and guitars/basses pass through my hands; in not one transaction did the notion of 'market' come into it. As a free-lance ASM programmer, the 'pipeline' product we came up with was distributed freely, as a 'calling card'. The hours spent teaching, repairing, advising on computer subjects, over some decades..? Our band plays for big smiles; we don't want to be 'paid'. A different 'mind-set', I tell thee.

Some folks have a different 'mind-set'. I'm one of 'em; there are others.

I was at the Kiemsa 'Adieu' concert, Nantes, 2011, and am mentioned in the DVD sleeve credits, along with Our Eldest (he was there first 'First Guitar', and I did the sound, then lights for a few years with them...). Great kids, great times. (I also attended their very first concerts, too, but they were slightly less prestigious..! )

... and then there was this time that the Duke of Edinburgh went on a courtesy visit to an asylum. He was shown around, and noticed an unusually quiet chap in a locked cell. He wanted to speak to him, so the nurses unlocked the door and allowed him in. The inmate looked up from the book he was reading and greeted him. 'You seem to be very calm; why are you in here..?', inquired the Duke..? 'An accident, I'm afraid' replied the patient. 'I came to give this book to a friend in here, and I've been mistaken for a lunatic ever since. It's been four years, but no-one will listen to me.'. 'Well, well, well..!' declared the Duke. 'I'll have a word with the Direction here, and we'll get this sorted out pretty quickly. Trust me; I have some influence.' He turn back to the door to leave, and was hit on the back of the head with the heavy book. 'And don't you f***ing forget, neither..!' screamed the inmate.

How many guesses do we get, and how specific would one have to be..? Would 'grey' suffice, or must it be 'Panzer Grey'..? What about sparklyness..? How to decide between Razzle-Dazzle Fuchsia and English Rose..? Hmm... I'll have to think this through, and quickly... (Totters away, muttering ... 'Olive Drab or Drab Olive..? Mustard and Cress or Rhubarb and Custard..? Does Tartan count as one or several, and how many Shades of Grey are there, anyway..? Oh, my aching head. More hot chocolate, methinks. Hmm... Brown..? Like gravy or tree bark...') -
In much the same way as this is 'courtship'...

I'm disappointed. I would have thought that you'd be up on your feet, dancing in the aisles to the hot beat and vibrant rhythms.

It has its Good Aspects, and I've heard far, far worse, but life-changing..? A bit too late for me, I'm afraid. Thanks for sharing, just the same. (Hint : Don't go to a full performance of Schubert's Ninth; there's only so many changes one can have in one's lifetime. )

I'd go much further than that, in suggesting that any 'luxury' items are at the expense of some poor sod in the world. It's my view that, once above a reasonable level (discuss 'reasonable'...), the 'wealth' accumulated comes from somewhere, and would be better spread out to those with less. This applies to holiday homes, second yachts, hunting lodges, eye-wateringly expensive motor cycles and cars and uber-expensive basses (list non-exhaustive...). An unpopular view, I know, and I've my share of hypocrisy in putting it forward, but until there's a better distribution world-wide, I'm rather Puritan where Luxury is concerned. I don't subscribe to the 'trickle-down' theories, either. Just sayin'.

True, up to the point where one's conscience kicks in, regarding ethics and societal notions. Greed is greed, however it's expressed.

In any film of the Stones 'Butterfly' free concert, Hyde Park, I, and some friends, were part of the umpteen-thousand spectators, up until 'Sympathy for the Devil', when we left.
