  1. If gnat's wotsits are a measure of audible difference, then I can hear a tiny bit of each. There was a noticeable difference in the way the bloke attacks some of the notes, especially in those 'slap-fest' bits, which affects the auditive result. They all sounded like good instruments, but how much, if any, of the gnat's wotsits difference is down to the wood essences used, I'd say the jury is still out. Inconclusive, bordering on proving the opposite, to me. (I won't be hiring the player for the stuff I like, either, but that's neither here nor there...).

    Band PA

For what the OP has specified, I'd say that a Yamaha Stagepass or equivalent would be fine. There have been some interesting posts with similar gear: a pair of 10 or 12 boxes on stands and a small mixer. When (if...) things develop, it's easy to upgrade depending on future needs, but these needs are, as yet, unknown, so... Yamaha, Wharfedale, HH... These are all suitable.

    Band PA

Perhaps the definition of 'small' is a bit different, stateside..? In a local pub we sometimes play in, the band takes up more room than the audience space, and we're a simple four-piece plus singer.
  4. Is this the right version..? Too much wild bass often confuses Soundcloud, so it's best to stick to a 'P' bass (with flats, naturally...) playing root and fifth. That may be the issue you've been having.
  5. Not a chance. We seldom watch the commercial TV channels; if we do, the sound gets muted instantly when ads come on. It's a pet hate. Not much from the radio (R4...) either, but I do get off to sleep listening to France Musique, the classical station. If I hear any good stuff, I've forgotten what it was the next morning anyway.
  6. Disclaimer : I watched another Julien Lage video and it wasn't very good, so ...

  9. Don't say that or he'll be back with the second part in a moment or two...
  10. Good grief..! Improved greatly, I'd suggest, by cutting the vocal mic completely..! I wouldn't stand that sax sound for long, either..! Not a fan (that's an example of understatement...).
  11. You do as you wish; others do the same. There is no real information in topics of this sort. Make your mind up on what you believe; there's no call for spreading partial, or disinformation, here. This topic is now locked.
  12. It rings a bell; I've certainly heard someone singing that live recently, probably as recent as this century. Susan Boyle, maybe..?
  13. Read about it here ... Musiker : Our Story ...
  14. Mirror Man - Captain Beefheart
  15. A drop of wood glue won't hurt, though.
  16. Being somewhat minimalist, and having, not just a bass rig, but a PA, guitar stuff, drums etc to shift, we make up 'dolly plates' from ply and a set of heavy-duty castors... Optionally, cut a hand-grip into one end, to ease carrying it empty, and/or hole for a knotted rope for hauling it along. Cheap, cheerful, pretty well unbreakable and polyvalent. Not so good when stairs are involved, I'll grant, but handles Leslie cabs or pianos, too.
  17. Good evening, Leslie, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
