I've bought a good few basses from the US but my experience can be summed up with one statement: Don't have it couriered/posted If you can bring it back yourself on the plane as hand baggage (I've done that twice with no problems at all) then it's well worth it. If it has to be shipped be very prepared to become one of the statistics. I've had many that shipped OK but it only takes one to get damaged and you will never want to do it again. It's a horrible experience when a bass gets damaged... J
mate don't list it on ebay without a reserve, its too nice for you to let it go cheap
Don't worry mate I won't be doing that, I'm willing to leave it on there with a buy it now - I sold one not long ago for £775 that way, so although it is a buyers market there are still people who will pay a good price for the right bass. I bought a Fender bass extender from them a few days ago ( only just noticed this thread ) and service was perfect, as well as the fact that I made a nice saving on it

In my endless failure to restrain myself I bought this bass recently thinking that I had worked out what I wanted from a Stingray... Unfortunately I like my Sterling HH too much and I need to sell one of the two. So this gets the chop (probably change my mind in a few months and regret it, but ho hum don't we all!) I haven't pulled the neck off to check but all the obvious signs (and the date sticker on the pots) date this at 1992; the 6 bolt neck plate, the truss rod wheel adjuster & the old style bridge with original mutes intact. It's a great bass in lovely condition for it's age, no wear on the body and only one small nick on the bottom edge near the pots, but being a natural it doesn't really stand out at all. The first few frets seem to have had a hard life but it's not affecting the sound or playability at all. The weight is just under 9lbs which is pretty good as its nicely balanced. Nicely grained body and some nice figuring going on in the neck as well. It's a 2 band EQ which I know a lot of people prefer. Comes with a non-original hard case thats very sturdy and a set of Schaller straplocks are fitted. Looking for offers in the region of £700 for this very clean classic example of a stingray. As I'm having a major reshuffle at the moment I'm looking to sell my Acoustic Bass: Crafter GAB-24S Mahogany Neck Rosewood back & Sides Indian Rosewood Fretboard 32" scale Built in pre-amp unit with EQ and a mute button ( no tuner as this is an older model ) Comes with a very decent Stagg hard case, which is in great nick apart from one broken latch ( although it still has about 5 others that work ) This is a great bass and sounds good acoustically and plugged in, but I just don't have the need for it right now and am trying to raise cash for other stuff ( OK OK I want to buy a KTM bike! ). I'm not sure what sort of price these would attract second hand but lets start at £200 and if thats outrageous haggle me down Some rather poor pictures attached, I might try and take some better ones when I have time J

I always had flats on my fretless '87 stingray, and I tried them on my 30th fretted 'ray as well. They are certainly interesting on a fretted stingray and you don't really lose that signature stingray sound - it just takes on a different feel. Of course the strings themselves are an important factor though, I love my TI flats on my precision but didnt like them on my ray - I tried some Labellas on the 30th and they sounded better to my ears. Only one way to find out...

I thought it seemed pretty clear Andy I put my bass on Ebay, Mick bought it - hadnt realised it was a refinish at the time of bidding, so we mutually agreed to call it off. So now I've put it back on ebay again making a point of describing that it's been refinished. J
i saw that and am now a tad confused as to whats going on? Unfortunately this fell through as it was my bass that was for sale - buyer was looking for something 100% original and unfortunately this bass had to have a refinish when I bought it as the Blueburst paint job had somehow "gone off" and was left clammy and soft. Back up on ebay now, I'd happily sell to someone here outside of Ebay but the general "trend" here lately is that Stingrays are worth £600 tops which I don't feel reflects the stunning quality of this bass Welcome to PM me if interested though J -

In my attempt to continue thinning out basses ( the '74 has gone *sniffle* ) Kylie is next on the block. This is a 1996 Olympic White precision fitted with Seymour Duncan pickups, including the extra jazz pickup. Pots are a stack Vol/Tone & Pan. The original bridge is also included but it's currently got a Badass III fitted allowing strings-through body or normal stringing. Weight is 9.4lbs, little heavy but great balance and not a back breaker by any means. There's not much else to say really - condition is great with no major marks/dings just a little scuff here and there, and they are pretty hard to pick out in this body colour to be honest. I put the black pickguard on but also have a white and a minty green one, so take your pick! This was on first refusal to Carlosfandango but I haven't heard back from him about it ( if you read this and still want it, you better let me know mate ) and I need to raise some cash right now as I'm possibly going to buy a motorbike on impulse tomorrow as one more day driving to work is going to push me over the edge... I bought this from Beedster last year over a coffee and a chat - it's a great bass with a lovely feel and some extra range of sound thanks to the added jazz pickup. Been a pleasure to own and got me well into the P bass thing, but having played a lovely '74 and now bought a very decent 70's RI, PLUS having the Tony Franklin I just can't justify them all so my loss is your gain Looking for £550 with the Hiscox Lifelite case

I had a similair situation with my double bass - it had these stretchy weedwacker strings on it looking all multicoloured. Acoustically they were pretty weak, the E string was almost inaudible. I think there are people who make decent ones like "Barefoot larry's hillbilly slap strings" and other types. They tend to be pretty cheap so worth messing around with another set maybe? Personally I figured I would just get used to the metal ones. J

I keep reminding my girlfriend about buying me a nice bass - doesnt seem to be sinking in though That was a fast transition bass, I bought it at my stingray height where I had 4 Stingrays and realised things had gotten out of hand so it hardly got played before I thinned the collection. So I can't really take the credit for it's great condition J
No you are right and she is one in a million. Sadly it is my lack of ability that has dented my confidence with the fretless! Yes you are right it is in amazing condition for the year - you must have looked after her well? Whoever buys it will be chuffed just as I was at Xmas! Mark
Small world and all that - lovely stingray Mark, must have been very kind of the other half to buy it for a Christmas present? Unless it changed hands already that is... How would I know such a thing...oh yea it was mine! Nice stingray in great condition for the year, best of luck with selling it. J
