theres a big specialist timber merchants in Boroughbridge up the A1 that I've used a lot for various pieces in the past - great to search through all the shelves of hardwoods and figured planks, a lot of interesting and exotic woods stocked but they dont do many small pieces so you need a big car. http://www.john-boddy-timber.ltd.uk/
Well im two years off being old enough to get a driving licence Thanks for all the help guys ill check these places out.
3. I definately say teacher, Books and videos are great, there what ive been using for the two years that ive been playing. But I had one lesson with Stuart Clayton and my playing improoved imensely
4. I dont agree with Kim Deal that bass players have to be restricted to just playing root notes. But I agree that they go well with many songs. It fits with her style of music. I like to encorperate some different techniques into my playing, but I try not to over do it. It anoys me when people just slap the crap out of a bass with no real notes. Example for fast playing but awefull sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0CeJppd_20

9. Oh my thats stunning
10. Thanks for all the help guys. I think Ill go for chisel first and if I cant do it ill go for a router. Ill get the body sawn into shape and use the exess to practise on
11.
Hmmmm...... a router is about the most dangerous power tool there is, so make sure you find out how to use one properly. You need a decent one (1/4inch ones are almost useless - get a half inch) and buy decent bits. Even then, you still need to make or buy templates. You can buy some very nice chisels and waste a bit of wood practicing. I'm no wood working expert but if you aren't in a rush you can get excellent results with hand tools.
I supose I could give it a try, How much would a nice set of chisels set me back? I have to mention that my budget is rather puny
12.
How good are you with a router?
Never tried But I dont think I will manage with a chisel. I supose I could try on some spare wood, But I dont think I could get the depth right
13.
Wasn't there a similar thread to this lately where the general consensus of replies was to go chisel but the OP decided to go router (probably decided before posting the thread) and made a total dog's cock of it?
Sadly im completely useless with a chisel
14. That table looks good Expect a new build diary starting in a few weeks, im going simple and making a single humbucker body, in the musicman posision. With emg electronics because i cant solder to save me life. im stealing the neck of my Lindo PRS copy Thanks alot for the help guys Mike
15. Thanks for the help guys, router it is then. And ill be very carefull, i rather like my fingers Oh and im sorry if i post loads of questions here, but im doing my first build and i have a severe lack of knowlage about it
16. im looking to make a replacement body for my shifty PRS copy. But will i need a router? Or would using a chisel be easyer? This will be my first ever build so im a complete noob to both ways. Thanks Mike
17. After trawling the internet I am now very interested in Carvin guitars, their basses look very nice, and Ed Friedland's review of the sb500 was very possitive. Also their bass amps look very nice too, and ive heard they have very reasonable prices. But theres the problem, I cant find any prices anywhere. Anyone know how much their basses and guitars are priced at? Cheers Mike

Hey DOOD!

How much would a set of DR's be for that?
21. Can I see a pic of the body? Or is my computer just being silly and not letting me see the ones in the OP? Cheers
22. Im looking at starting a jazz bass project, I want the end result to be as good as possible for as cheap as possible. Ive looked at squiers, and I like what I see in the vintage modified section. However theyre not that cheap I also had a quick peek at SX, and they look very nice and with very nice prices. Can they be found in the uk?
23.
Check the bridge for sharp edges, but you might just have been unlucky with suspect batches of strings. In fact the only set of HiBeams i used did this after about 20 minutes play (i followed the instructions on the packet) and there has been another thread recently: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...;hl=dr+hi+beams Also Geoffbyrne has an the A and E strings for sale if one you broke one of those: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=dr+hibeams For 2+2 headstocks but that shouldn't matter on the lower strings.
That thread was also me i'll check the bridge for sharp edges, but i'll be glad to try another brand of strings, Hibeams arent cheap Thanks for the help
24. i just had another string break on me, twice in the last 4 months now. And im starting to wonder what the cause may be. i dont play that hard on the strings, although i do slap. Both times the string didnt snap, it uncoiled at the bridge. The strings were DR highbeams, not cheap strings. And on my pathetic students budget i dont fancy another breakage i know this is a long shot but any help will be much apreciated. Mike
