1. I normally use 2 Ashdown 12" Rootmaster cabs with 700w Sica drivers , I've just ordered from here a Ashdown 4 x 8" 8 ohm cab for another project . both are ported & Have a tweeter , I know there are loads of things to take into account , But take a guess on what one moves the most air the 2 x12" cabs or the 4 x 8 " cab ..The winner will get a ice cream next time the're on the IoW
2. I have the ABM1000 & 400 & just been A/Bing them against my JJ500 .
3.
Don't get me wrong I love Level 42 but it seems that the more time passed the lighter his sound gets and you can hear the massive hole in the sound of the band because he seems to have forgotten that a bass guitar should sound like a bass guitar. I would love for him to turn that bass knob a bit and give a bit more of weight to those wonderful bass lines he's playing.
I don't think it would have sounded like that from His rig
4. To keep equipment as simple as possible .
5. The cabs are Ashdown Mini 4 x8 " . On investigation it looks like the 1000w version has neo speakers , tweeter & has porting this was the more expensive one but as there is one going on here & I had that model before I think I will go for that one . thanks for you replies .
6. When I moved to London in 1984 & auditioned for bands I would anticipate them asking "Do you know Mark King " & think if you say that I'm going ton punch you one I think they are a great tight band & Mark is a excellent front man .
7. Having worked on a Stranglers gig , The JJ head powers a 4 x 10 & ABMs power a 15" &the Di to the PA goes through a Korg Pandora for overdrive . I have the JJ500 & a ABM1000..When I gig with a Roland GR55 I use the JJ head & just use the graphic for the rooms acoustics , The JJ head has a bit more flexibility in tone with the Graphic , But I find I can stand there buggering around with the graphic for ages , The ABM naturally gets a warmer sound If I'm gigging with just a bass & no Roland Synth that's the one I use as It has everything I need , Both are great amps .
8. Happy xmas & once I've got everyone sorted I'll be looking for my next GAS
9. If you had two cabs the same speaker configuration & same make & model , but one is a 400w version & the other a 1000w version , Would they sound different if using the same amp & same volume setting . The reason for asking is that I've had the 1000w version before but the 400w is a lot cheaper & would easily handle the volume I would be putting through it , maybe it might have a bit more punch if the speakers a working a bit harder ?
10. I never paid Ashdown much attention as a certain Mr King used them & when I was a lot younger I didn't want to be seen using the same , Then I grew up & noticed how many big bands at festivals used them So I tried one & I'm still using them , great amps .
11. I've had Mark bass , & still have two barefaced super compacts ( up for sale on here) & currently use Ashdown Rootmaster cabs with the Sica driver upgrade they weigh about 22 lbs per cab cost works out at about £370 & I really like them .
12. Both Metal grill .These are now £569 RRP each plus £30 postage .. I'm not in a rush to sell these so no offers please .
13. Price drop to £450 if collected .
14. Price now reduced to £850 for the pair including covers .
15. Did I see earlier that you were interested in a light weight amp ? I have a as new Mark bass MO Mark with top of the range modules in a 250 w frame & semi flight case .
16. I've seen that few certain named bass players have a version of a CTM in their Studio but use ABM heads live is that because the ABM stuff is a bit more robust ?
17. What are they like for moving around , I can see the weight, but handle positions etc obviously make a difference .
18. Great company to work with .
19. I use active 12" EV subs 700w & come in at 45lbs each they are the lightest I could find ,I did consider using my BF compacts with a 1000w digital bass amp but they are not deep enough in dimension to take a pole to support top speakers .
20. Any gig my band does I create a event on FB & push it like mad & we always get a good turn out & always get asked back & some pubs have started paying more than agreed because they have done so well over the bar .
21.
Did you get one - I've been thinking of trying the same? If you did what was the result?
I now use two Ashdoen RM cabs with Sica drivers as I preferred the sound ,I only had the Sica drivers fitted to handles the ABM1000 when used . But the White cone is pretty good ,It's actually a Blue line speaker .
22. I look at the features of the product & weight & go & hear it for myself in a gig situation if possible & that's it .I also find The Ashdown stuff has a lot more of everything as I 've A/Bd a lot of them .
23.
No it is 10Kg
Not on the isle of Wight it's not
