1. Can this gig with a rock band ?
2.
I`ve got the ABM600 with ABM210/410 cabs, and the RM500 with RM210/115 cabs. Impressions are that the ABM is a bigger sound, and has more presence in the lows when all set flat, but other than that I find them very similar, though have to admit I get my eq from my Sansamp. The only adjustment I make on the amps is on the ABM I back off on the lows to about 10 o`clock, whereas on the RM I leave all at noon. So to answer Peetys question - sortof - not that much difference between the two, though I`m guessing at higher volumes the ABM will fare better.
How do you find the sound with the ABM600 & the RM cabs used together ?
3.
Am guessing you are preferring the Ashdown cabs more than the Barefaced cabs you had Lozz?
I have the ABM Neo 4 x8 compared to the 2 12" RM cabs it does have more low end punch but it does weigh 48 lbs & I think it's only me that notices it because I'm standing right next to it . I have the Barefaced super compacts mrk3 then emphasize the 180 frequency that I cut to get the sound I like with the BF cabs using 2 x 12"rm cabs I do very little with the Eq .
4. A really great cab . Great price .
5. The 12" with Sica driver comes in at 26 lbs .
6. Is this a UK made one ?
7.
I'm really interested in these cabs, Ashdown have them spec'ed at 14kg which is double the weight of the One10's I have just now. Did I read that the 700w driver brings the weight down to 11kg? Sure I read that somewhere.
Mine are 12" with Sica drivers I'll weigh them tomorrow .
8. I sometimes put one of my PA subs under one of my cabs so I can feel the kick of the bass drum mixed with my low end .
9.
For what it's worth the JJB head is just a rebranded Mark King signature head. So one of those is the same thing.
They are not actually , They have different voicing ..I have the early JJB & borrowed the MK version & they sound different when a/b next to each other although you can make them sound similar to each other with use of the graphic . & I can not get the JJB to sound like the ABM with it's shape on , I just can't seem to get the Low end thud that ABM can get ..The Retro glide is similar to the JJB but the JJB has more head room .
10. Some years ago , while Helping do a PA for The Stranglers , I noticed that JJs rig had a Standard Ashdown ABM powering a 1 x15 & the DI went into a jj graphic head that powered a 4x10 allowing different tone shaping & volume settings for each cab . Does anyone else do this sort of thing ?
11. Not that I've noticed .
12. I only upgraded to the Sica drivers because I use a ABM1000 .. But I did a ferw gigs with the White cone & had no problems at all volume & clarity wise .
13. A friend of mine designs circuit boards & knows quite a bit about electrical stuff & he was saying that He didn't understand why valve amps are so much more expensive when the components are so cheap & are easy to put together . So Why are they ?
14.
My only criticism of the cab would be power handling seems low. I expected more than 250w
Maybe it's because most people use two ?
15. I went from Mark bass & Barefaced back to Ashdown the ABM1000 & 400 digital have a lot more oomf to them the MB was like playing through a HiFi to me & , Nothing wrong with the Barefaced stuff but I've never ever liked the handles & the look , But for me The Rootmaster cabs do the same thing but look better .
16. I spent quite a while comparing the two 12" cabs with Sica drivers ( they sound the same as the white line except they can take more wattage ) against my Barefaced super compacts & Ashdown 4 x 8 neo ABM .. The Bf cabs exaggerate the 180 frequency quite a bit that I cut to get the sound I like , With The Root Master 12" I don't touch the EQ at all . The 4 x 8 Ashdown has a nice low end punch & reminds me of my old Ampeg 8 x 10 , On sound alone I prefer this cab but it weighs 48lbs that's twice as much as the Root master & I only really notice the difference when standing close to the cab . So for me. if it's a bit of a hike from my van to the stage it's the Root Masters every time .I also like the build quality & the handles .
17. How do you think they compete with all the internet stuff , Personal Service , offering set ups ?
18. Has anyone actually opened one in your area in recent years ?
19.
Sub'd! I too have been hovering over that one for quite a while now. But actually I don't need another amp...
You might be thrown off of BC for that last sentence .
20. That reminds me I had the BF super 12T that had wheels but it made me stoop so I ended up picking it up .
21. Instead of going light weight does any one use this type of cab , 4 x10 , 6 x10 etc & how do you get on with them ? .
22. I've always found that an easy sound to get regardless of bass or amp , roll off the bass , boost 600 mid , & use a heavy pick .
23. Our Drummer never turned up , lucky for us two drummer friends were in the audience & got us through it .
24. I'd prefer these steel grills to my root masters , I think I'll look for a pair & put my Sica drivers in them .
