1. I LOVE the headstock shape! Much prefer 4 a side to the newer horrible 2+2 design. If I needed another bass I'd be nabbing this, good luck with the sale! Alex
2. Another cheer for the aesthetics! Reminds me somewhat of an early Citroen GS. Great job and certainly GAS inducing; god knows what kind of hamfisted job I'd end up doing on one though! Truckstop
3. Just have to hold out for a 2x10! Truckstop
4. Egads! How much gear do you go through?! Rig looks lovely by the way; would love to nab one of those 112 combos. Truckstop
5. D'oh! I literally just bought a PF350 because there were no 500's for sale at the time! Although I rather suspect that it's a blessing in disguise; the PF500 would hang over the edges of my SP210! Truckstop
6. Ha ha, yes! Apologies. I hope someone will come along and tell you something useful shortly! Truckstop
7. I think it means 'Squier'. Truckstop
8. 100% finish your degree. As long as you can get by and you can live somehow then you need to finish your qualifications. You've got the rest of your life to dick about with bands and projects. At the moment your life is geared towards HE. In a few years, you will not want to go back to finish, you'll be heavily involved in other things and you'll regret not taking this opportunity to get a degree. Truckstop
9.
They're not aiming at you though, they're going for the stupid w***er market.
Fixed.
10. I think it's a symptom of people being paid too much these days. I rarely buy things because I have no money (or rather, I have more important things to spend on). When I have money or get some sort of windfall, stuff gets bought! Truckstop
11. Thanks for the information Martin! I'd get it fixed but to be honest I need to shift it anyway and it doesn't owe me much money. Cheers Alex
12. Hello all, Selling off some bits and bobs that I don't use anymore and next in the firing line is this wonderful old bass head built in the 70's by an Italian company called GEM. I bought it off here a long time ago and used it for a while before it died on me. Sent it to Oli (Mr. Foxen) and he worked wonders with it. Gave it a full service, replaced a few bits, tidied it up, added a jack socket on the back and smartened it up a bit. Now, looks great and sounds tremendous. Loads of volume and plenty of valve bounce. The volume this thing is capable of is quite incredible; its a loud 50w! Its wide so you'd need a traditional 4x12 cab to sit it on The controls dont really do very much, but for some reason I've found that it responds to the tone control on the bass very well. Tone full on is almost unlistenably trebley and vice versa, tone fully off is a real subby mess. This thing can really pump out the low frequencies! If I didnt have a baby on the way and I didnt need to get all my crap out of the music/baby room I'd be keeping this purely because it looks and sounds great. Should mention the standby light doesnt work. Low price is simply because I need to shift it quickly. Collection only because I dont have anything suitable to ship it in and its probably a bit fragile also. I live in St Albans a minute away from J22 of the M25. Delivery by me is possible, PM to discuss terms. Pictures! Please someone give the old girl a loving home! Alex
13. Hello all, More stuff from my bits and bobs clearout. Right, this is a MAJ bass head. That's literally all I know about it. Also it doesnt work; so actually, I know two things about it. The guy i bought it off reckons it's about 300w at 4ohm, so probably 175-200w at 8ohm. I used it for a string of gigs last year where it performed fine, enough volume with two 1x15's, quiet DI, and looks great. Then one day it just stopped working and I didnt really care enough about it to get it looked at. I just put it back in its case and bought something else! Weight without case is about 10kg; case is about 6kg It'll probably transpire that it's just a burnt fuse or something but to be honest its really not worth very much even if it were working. It's got a really bright tone, had to crank the bass control to get a decent spread of frequencies. MAJ are/were a very small company turning out some pretty unremarkable gear hence the low price. I suppose it'd be useful for someone who is making their own amp and wants a nice box to put it in or maybe for someone that likes tinkering with things. I'll be selling this with its case that someone had built for it. Case is a bit rough around the edges but is completely secure and very well built. Probably worth £50 on its own so you're getting a good deal. I am happy to send this via courier but it'll be an extra £25 on top due to size and weight. Collection is also ok, I live in St. Albans about a minute away from J22 of the M25. Cash on collection or bank transfer/barclays pingit. No Paypal. Picture: Cheers Alex
14. Hello all, Here for sale is a project that I've never got round to finishing. Not sure what the main body wood is but the top is definitely spalted beech. Very attractive! Needs a lot of work doing to it still, thicknessing, rounding, sanding, cavities, neck pocket etc all needs completing. Its very light, between 2.5 - 3lbs and I'd keep it myself if i could find the time to finish it myself. No haggling on this one please, wood cost a lot and price also includes postage. Payment by bank transfer or barclays pingit ONLY. Due to size, collection would also be happily welcomed. I'll knock a fiver off. 15. Hello all, Selling a few bits and bobs that I seem to have collected over the years. This is all the case candy from either a MIM Jazz 5 OR a MIJ Sting Sig. precision. Cant remember which bass I got it with and I forgot to include it with whichever guitar it belonged to when I sold it. So, in the pack is the instruction booklet, hang tags, stickers and other Fender promotional items. Not really sure as to its full contents as the bag is still sealed and un-opened. Not sure how to price it, please haggle! Price includes postage and payment by bank transfer or barclays pingit ONLY. 16. Hello all, Selling a few bits and bobs that I know i'll never get round to using. Here for sale is a used chrom Jazz bass pickup cover. Quite clean, a couple of scratches, does not come with any screws and the original packaging is long gone. I bought this for a project a few years ago and didnt like it. Been at the bottom of the parts drawer for ages! Feel free to haggle, price includes postage. Payment by bank transfer or barclays pingit ONLY. Here's a pic (sorry about the dust!): cheers Alex
17. Hello all, Selling a few bits and bobs and here is a used chrome Jazz bass control plate. Presentation side is clear of any marks, bottom side has some scrapes and scratches and residue from poor soldering technique. It'll come with the screws it came with when I bought it new a few years ago. Original packaging long gone! Price includes postage. Feel free to haggle. Payment via bank transfer or barclays pingit ONLY. Here's a picture even though we all know what they look like! (This is the underside) Cheers Alex
18. GK BLX cabs are great! They certainly hold a candle to the RBH cabs if not as pretty or sensitive. GLWTS Truckstop
19. John East Retro has an insane amount of bass on tap. Turn it all down by half and bump the midrange controls a bit. MarkBass I always associate with massive lows; try to trim off the bass on the amp EQ and turn off the VLE and VLF filters. Sounds great solo, but in a band setting almost no use at all. You don't mention not being able to hear yourself so I don't think you need to worry about raising the cab too much or pointing it at your ears. A thought occurs; most big bands I've seen use a double bass and the bass sits under the mix rather than competes with the keys and trombones for the same frequencies. Maybe try cutting the mids and seeing how that works in a band situation? Truckstop
20. Unless you're playing to hundreds and hundreds of people you don't even need subs. Good quality tops will handle everything very well without introducing loads of unwanted ultra-bass frequencies into the mix. But yeah, roll the bass down and bump the mids a bit on your amp. Will sound a bit natty to your ears but you'll be able to hear yourself on stage. Use a pre-EQ DI and you can put as much bass into the FOH mix as you like. Truckstop
21. Once out the last 112 gigs I've used someone else's stuff (which was a massive TC Blacksmith with 8x10!). For 98 of those I used only my SWR Workingman's 10 that I bought for £120. £1.05 a gig! I suppose it's different for cover bands when typically you'll be the only act on the night. If I were in an originals band I'm sure I'd use my own rig much less. Truckstop
