  1. Actually, ended up with a last minute dep gig last night so had to come up with an immediate solution. Found the longest, thinnest bolt I had and just drilled a hole right through the headstock and used a washer and nut. Untidy but whatever, I won't be selling this one on! Truckstop
  2. I'd never felt the need to change mine either but I've had problems with mine. A while ago I banged my headstock and the string retainer fell out. Gigging 2 or 3 times a week at the time I bodged a repair using a toothpick and wood glue. Over the last 8 months it's been falling out every so often and I've kept bodging a repair and now that I've got a couple of weeks off I want to make a proper repair and invest in a new string retainer just because. 3. The micro heads initially all sound pretty good but at volume you'll start to notice a lack of real weight to your sound. I've had a PF500, a PF350, an RH450 and an MB500. I've ditched them all and gone back to using an SWR combo (with a proper transformer in it!) for small gigs and a GK RB-700 for larger gigs. The micro heads just weren't cutting it at volume. My advice would to be to change your cab before ditching your head. A more efficient cab will make you sound so different! Also, having a 'heavy' sound comes from technique. If you want a less abrasive tone, try using lighter strings and a lighter touch. Good luck! Truckstop
  4. Hello all, The string retainer on my BB424x is a useless piece of dogshit and I want it replaced. Anyone know of any particularly good ones? Or rather, any that I should avoid? I plan to affix whichever new string retainer I purchase using a bolt and threaded insert to reduce the chance of thread stripping in the bare wood. A good idea? Cheers! Alex
  5. For pubs? Out! Most bands that I've seen use a full range PA in pubs tend to sound terrible because the room's too small and they're always far too loud. They always take up too much space, they take ages to put together and set up and generally far too invasive for a nice intimate pub setting. Truckstop
  6. As a youth I'd always been into rock/metal and had always played in metal bands. Grew up a bit and started messing with more sort of alternative indie-ish kind of stuff and just so bored of it. Need to meet some people and get noisey again; I really struggle to play quiet music ha ha Chug chug chug chug!
  7. St. Albans. Near London! Too far and the RBH combos are pretty heavy so postage would be prohibitive. Nevermind Truckstop
  8. Year and a half later my gig bag is still going strong after really heavy use (done at least 150 gigs since January 2013). Obviously a few scuffs but all the padding's still intact, strap still attached and strong, no rips anywhere in or out of the bag and all the zips still work just fine. Best value for money I think I've ever got out of anything, ever! Truckstop
  9. Sell it all and buy something new. They're only possessions! Truckstop
  10. It's a shame you're so far away; I'm looking for an RBH combo! Truckstop
  11. No! Don't do it!!! These are the best combos ever; a future classic for sure! Just buy a 700 or 1001 amp seperately and buy a cab to go with it and sell the combo. Truckstop
  12. Here's a few ideas for you: Hartke Kickbacks are great little combos with plenty of volume available (even the 10") and can be had for peanuts second hand. SWR Workingman's 10 would be a great buy if you can find one. Can be had for £120ish and are awesome! 10" combo, plenty of volume and suitable for small gigs. DI out too so can go into the PA for larger gigs. The Gallien Kreuger MB210 combo and the MB115 combo are deceptively small and cost less than the MB150s. Can be had for £250ish second hand and sound great. Ultra lightweight too! Alternatively, look at the Gallien Kreuger MB200 micro amp and buy a small 2x10, 1x12 or 1x15 cab to go with it. The MB200 is TINY! Good luck! Truckstop
  13. Yeah I have a 424x and I'm looking for a brown 1024x. Hens teeth though! Truckstop
  14. Nah, you'd have to be a pretty aggressive pick player to achieve any real damage! Most light scrapes you can buff out with a bit of T-cut anyway. I think pick guards hark back to the times when most/all guitars came with either natural wax/oil finishes or nitrocellulose finishes which are much less hard wearing than modern poly finishes. Truckstop
  15. I think it's disgusting and you should have stopped when you turned 35. You're stealing all the work for younger people that need it most! I've got three wives and eleven kids to look after for gods sake!! More helpfully; I think it's great! I'm 27 and I play in a band with a 71 year old guitarist, a 68 year old drummer and a 61 year old singer. Every day I learn something truly invaluable that can only be taught by someone with plenty of experience! Truckstop
  16. Howard the Bass doc!
  17. Do you get the full 100w without the use of an extension cab? Cheers Alex
  18. Yes because you'll be shifting twice as much air. But it's more of a perception thing rather than an actual volume increase. You'll be fine with the one cab. Honestly, how loud do you need to be? If you're playing gigs where you need an 8x10 rig then you'll be going through the PA anyway. Enjoy the rig! Truckstop
  19. I used to rehearse at a room that had the old size B3000 head and the matching 4x10 ultra bass cab and sounded awesome. I rehearsed there for 3 years using the same rig and I'm guessing it's still there. It felt a bit cheap and obviously lacks the name-brand je nai sais quoits but I'd happily buy a Berry rig if I had to. Truckstop
  20. It crushes your bits.
  21. Yes! The RBH cabs are very sensitive and the RB range watts are very loud. I used to gig a 400RB with the RBH210 and it kept up just fine in a rock band with two guitarists. You won't need another cab! Truckstop
  22. Appears to be working now. My wife's been given the opportunity to re-list which we're happy with. Truckstop
  23. Phaser definitely. Maybe some kind of bit crusher too. Truckstop
  24. Anyone know what happens if a listing for something you're selling ends during a site closure? The missus is selling her car and obviously we would have been able to have sold it for a lot more if the site was open for the last 12 hours of the auction. Alex
  25. Yeah I feel that way too. I love my gear but really really really want to be able to go into a shop or browse online and buy something that catches my fancy. I look on GAK etc and feel that a lot of the pricing of stuff is just completely out of reach for me. Even mid-range stuff! I could really do with a more powerful combo but literally don't have a penny to put towards one. I could also do with a decent back-up bass. I try to save but I have a wife and a child and I have priorities! New gear is really expensive. A £200 Squier is a lot of money if you don't have £200 to hand. Truckstop
