1. It's on Ebay with 2 and a half days left to go and it's only at £155! If you were interested in this initially, you may well end up with a ridiculous bargain! 2. I found while attempting to refinish my jazz that you need to have the patience of a saint. Here's some tips I picked up, it's not a 'How to...' but just a bit of info that might help: Getting the original finish off is a complete arse-ache but needs to be done. It's just the best way to do it! Use lots of Nitromors (paint stripper; Homebase, B&Q etc; you need the red tin, not the normal green one) and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! Hopefully should come off without too much trouble, but if it doesnt work, you'll have to break out the powersander (you could try sanding it all off manually but, um... I wouldnt) and it'll take a while to get all of the old finish off. The wood underneath should already be sealed. If you can get the finish off using nitromors, then the sealant won't be affected by it and you could apply primer straight away. However, if you have to go the power sander way, then it's likely you'll need to apply sealant again in case you've taken it all off. Don't expect it to take, like, a day, it takes a good week or two to get it perfect. Everytime you spray a coat, you need to sand it down again until it's perfectly flat (funnily enough, this process is called flatting) before applying another coat. You'll need more paint than you think you will, so get an extra can just in case! Practice spraypainting on a piece of wood before you begin. If you've never used spray cans before, it really doesnt work how you expect it to, you need to practice to get the distance right. Not so close that it builds up and runs, but not so far away that the paint dries before it hits the wood. It just takes time and practice! From other people's experiences, I would not refinish in matt black for the reason that once you actually start using the bass, it'll go glossy where you rub on it (fnarr fnarr) and then it'll just look patchy and rubbish. But, by all means if that's what you want, then go for it! If it does go rubbish, then at leastmyou'll have the experience to refinish it again! Hope this helps Cheers Alex
3. Not my first, no. A Squier P that I got for my 14th birthday. Was good to me and I learnt almost everything I know on it, but the only bass I really regret moving on was my Washburn XB600. It was my first 'proper' bass and I had it for 6 years before I swapped it for a Fender Jazz with Johngh. He put it up for sale a few months later but didnt have any cash at the time to buy it back. I sincerely wish he still has it and is prepared to get rid of it when I have some cash available! Truckstop
4. The tiniest smidgeon of delay and/or reverb will proper big your sound up! Don't forget the essentials though. Good pickups and a well EQ'd amp will do more for you than some pedals! Try Karoo
5. Sorry mate, friend's after a Grabber instead! My mistake, good luck and have a bump! Truckstop
6. Get an Ibanez Blazer....if you can find one! I've been looking for another one for weeks with no luck. And I suspect should one turn up it'll go for a good few hundred seeing as they appear to be so scarce. They sound amazing. Like a regular precision, but with added snap, added crackle and possibly even more pop. The tone control is more responsive than Japanese and Mexican Precisions (never tried an American) and they have traditional 80's Ibanez build quality. They just will not go wrong! Solid brass bridge, solid open back tuners (nice and retro!) and a wonderfully aesthetically pleasing design. Slight points on the top and bottom horns, and a lovely headstock shape that somewhat reminds me of a smile! Ill get some pictures up soon because I love showing it to people! You'll not regret it! 7. Hello Theo, Got a mate who's after a Ripper, I'll give him a shout for you tomorrow innit! Cheers Alex
8. Yeah, im leaning towards the PF500 anyway. Headroom's important to me and I'd like the versatility too. It's a shame because the Micro SVT looks well nice! Cheers Lozz and Skidder! Alex
9. Hello all, I want an Ampeg head to go with my cab because it's always nice to have matching stuff innit? I was wondering what people's opinions are of the two. PF500 appeals to me because of the power rating, but the micro SVT looks wicked. It's a tricky one as new there's really not much in the way of price difference! Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers Alex
10. Oh god, loads!! Nine Inch Nails - The Day The Whole World Went Away/Hurt/Lights In The Sky Miles Davis - Flamenco Sketches Mogwai - Kids Will Be Skeletons/Pathways to Helicon Pt.2 My Morning Jacket - Into The Woods/Knot Comes Loose Chris Isaak - Wicked Game Paul Simon ft. Ladysmith - Homeless That's just stuff I've listened to in the last few days! Truckstop
11. This is now on the ebay so play your cards right and you could get this for not much money at all! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130646002923?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Cheers Alex
12. I'd mod a MIM without a second thought, but American and Jap Fenders I'd leave well alone! Truckstop
13. Ampeg 210HE Classic? There's a dude on here selling one right now (along with a matching 1x15) for £250. Plenty of vintage tones, loads of low ends, but can be nice and articulate too. Im not getting rid of mine ever! If I need more speakers for bigger shows, I'll be hunting down another one! Cheers Alex
14. Real good! I loved the drumming big time, not too flashy, but lots of little trills and fills to keep interesting! And keep the intro, I'm used to listening to Misericordiam... Good one! You should put a band together or something Truckstop
15.
Red5 Audio RVD-1 http://www.red5audio...m_Kit_Mics.html Currently out of stock, but serious bangs-per-buck.
Wow, that looks like a great bit of kit! Ive emailed them to tell me when they come back in stock, you never know, might come in handy one day! Thanks for that, Jack! Alex edit: and having looked through the shop, looks like their kits would be perfect for someone setting up a lttle studio of for someone who wants their own mics for live use! Definitely gonna keep these guys in mind for future reference
16. This is a very very old ad. The bass has either been sold or the seller's decided to keep it. I dont know why people are still bumping it while saying how good these basses are and that they should buy it. bump.
17. Sorry everyone, another bump! Will consider offers on this and dont forget, you can throw all sorts of trade offers at me! Cheers Alex
18. I'd build a 2x12 and use it on its own. IMO there's really no need to have a 4x10 AND a 1x15. It's just more trouble than it's worth! Its fun to build things and you'll learn a lot while you're doing it so build a cab by all means, just don't build a 1x15 in the hope that you can use it with a 4x10 to send all the bass to. Ooh! Or do what Phil said and build a sub! Truckstop
19. Dont overplay and for gods sake, try to look like you're enjoying yourself!! Truckstop
20. Cheers, thanks for that! If my Fender sells in time, i'll be getting in touch! Alex
21. Replied to loads of PM's with some great trade deals on the table today. It's been a real struggle to turn them down, but I need to stay strong and hold out for stuff that will be of greater value to me with regards to my gigging rig! Still up for grabs people! Alex
22. Bump for better pictures in the photobucket album!!! Cheers Alex
23. This is my lovely rig! I put the GEM through the effects loop of the Firebass 700. This way, I can crank the GEM to get the lovely warm tube overdriven tone but control the overall volume using the Peavey. In essence, Im using the GEM like a tube drive pedal, but it's got a much more natural and rich tone. The Ampeg cab provides plenty of low-end and volume. Thinking of getting a matching 1x15 cab but don't know if it's worth it! As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan of hi-fi bass tone. Truckstop
24. Hello, Out of curiosity, how do you find that cab configuration? I want a matching cab to go with my 2x10 and I've been agonising over whether to get a 1x15 or another 2x10. Another quick question, is the 1x15 cab the same size as the 2x10? Also, any trades/delivery? Cheers! Alex
