1. Hello all My band Dalla Russia have just finished recording a couple of tracks and I've posted the preliminary mixes up on myspace. DALLA RUSSIA The first track 'Cue The Lunatic' is the single and 'Alarms' is the accompanying 'B Side' (Listen out for the bass break after the second chorus). Enjoy; Cheers Adam
2.
ok ive got the music down..(bit tricky to sync mind).. i just need to adjust the volumes..i can only just hear my bass? also half was through i got some hissing? are the volumes adjusted before or after... if after what are you guys using..i only have Garage Band..
Yeah, the new iMovie is an absolute sack of sh't so syncing (or trying to do anything) can get a bit frustrating. You need to cmd click click on the song you imported and adjust the audio level until it's really really low, then boost the level of your playing. If you really want to, you can export the audio into something like Logic and master it to get it a bit louder and more present. I'm not sure how you'd do it in Garageband as I moved to Logic ages ago, but if you want, you can send your exported audio track over to me and I'll master it for you. Once again, I'm still not yet home with my Mac so I can't tell you exactly how to export the audio, but I'd assume it would be pretty intuitive. Otherwise just type 'Exporting audio from iMovie' into google. Oh, and the hissing? No idea, sorry. Maybe boost the output on the interface and drop the input on your Mac.
3.
thanks H..i will try that... what im thinking is though, if im in imovie..recording vid/sound through i movie, and ive got sound of bass and vid of me, how can it pick up the music from itunes, that is not playing through imovie? surely i have to access the track through imovie and add it to imovie in the first place..?
What I mean is: Open both iMovie and iTunes. Don't import the track at this stage, just get the song playing in iTunes and then switch to iMovie and record yourself playing to it. AFTER you have done this, then import that song and sync it up with the video you have recorded. Make sure you have the song playing before you switch to iMovie, as, if you start recording in iMovie and switch to iTunes, iMovie will stop importing. If the song doesn't give you enough time to get iMovie recording, then just play a bit of whatever song comes before it in the playlist to give you time to switch. I'm going to be back home with my Mac on Wendesday, so if you're still having trouble by then I can put togethar a quick demo. Good luck!
4. I'm not on my mac at the moment so I may be wrong, but the way I did it was: If you've got the video and sound sorted, and iMovie is recording your playing (I'll assume you've already changed your input to your interface in the Apple system preferences), then get the song playing in itunes, get iMovie recording, and just play along to the song. When you've finished, and dragged all the video from the event into the edit area (top left), then go to the little musical note sign at the far right which should bring up your iTunes library. Drag the song from iTunes into the edit area (or just drag it from itunes itself) and then move it around until it syncs with the track. Boom. There may very well an easier way of doing it, but this is a 'rough and ready' guide.
5.
It has nothing to do with "political correctness". That is a ridiculous label.
Okay, poor wording, replace 'political correctness' with equal opportunities.
"Any deviation from said branding/image would make the band seem less professional, and therefore deter a lot of opportunities." You clearly trust their marketeers to make the right and most effective branding decisions.
Have you seen the pop market? I don't advocate that kind of thing but a coherent image is pretty much as important as the music.
6. Christ. Here's a simple explanation which might put a stop to all the political correctness banners being thrown around. If this was a position for an un-seen musician (pit, studio session etc) then of course it would be wrong to discriminate against age and image, because the musician is paid for their musical ability, not for their appearance and are therefore judged on the merit of their playing. Whereas in this case, image is extremely important, as the ideal candidate would have to be part of the visual branding of the act. Any deviation from said branding/image would make the band seem less professional, and therefore deter a lot of opportunities. Dyageddit?
7. Thank you very much guys, I'm glad you like it. It's supposed to be the soundtrack/'concept ep' for a comic she made me last year. I'll post more and update the soundcloud as I go.
8. Hello all I'm slowly writing an album/e.p. for the Mrs, and I thought I'd preview a bit of it here. Fans of Sufjan Stevens, Jaga Jazzist and Yes will probably get a kick out of this. It's all veeery work in progress, so be gentle. Many thanks, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 9. Maybe a ball-gag would help curb those facial maneuvers? It would be a difficult one to explain if somone walked in on you though; once you got the ball-gag off that is.
10. 'Lord Gorgeous'. I consider anything else disrespectful to my vocation.
11.
That's an ice joke mate! Shame your pictures are a snow show
That was cold. Athankyou.
12. Yule be hard pressed to get anything out of me.
13.
Guy Pratt, without a doubt!
100%
14. What an unbelievably brilliant band. No one else can play that well in a major key. Gates of Delirium is pretty much the pinnacle of human composition for me.
15.
Now THAT is a bloody good plan!
It would have to be a pretty low key event thought. Ahthankyou. Also, just noticed you've got GB bass; Nice one man, Bernie sets up my basses for me; such a lovely guy.
16.
Agreed. Fantastic.
Thanks very much! As soon as we sort our tour our I'll post it on here. If only we could sort out some kind of basschat festival....
17. I play in a progressive/dance/rock ish band called Dalla Russia. The basic ethos is to use odd time signatures, key changes and extended sections without people realising they're listening to anything more then standard 4/4, meaning it can be enjoyed on two levels. If you just want a pulse to dance to, we give you that, but if you're into music, then you can appreciated the architecture behind everything. Here's one of our tracks synced to Knight Rider: Our myspace
18. If I could play that well I'd wear whatever the ckuf I wanted.
19. This happens a lot with Capo's on guitars. The extra tension will pull the strings out of tune, so, make sure he tunes up again after putting the capo on.
20. Good day to you all. I'm looking to trade my delicious USA Jazz for your tall dark and handsome USA P bass. Why? Because even though I love the versatility, feel, tone and general fantasticness of the bass, I want something to use as an all-purpose workhorse that'll sit a little better in the mix and give me a bit more thump. Plus I'm just really loving the P right now. Any questions/comments? Let me know. Cheers Adam
21. Guys! Remember, just like the radio, if you want to have a successful show that features music, you have to dumb it down enough for the lowest common demoninator to experience it and not have their ears offended by anything outside of C, G, A min, F. You might be able to get away with a bit either side, but it's rarely going to happen, especially now, as the mainstream seem to be plummeting into a musical portaloo. If you want something that might actually stimulate you in any way more then a dull nausiating feeling in your stomache, don't look for it on the TV or the radio. /I'll get my coat.
