I've recently strung my Precision up with the bottom 4 from a Roto 5 string set, but can't get on with the gauge as they are a bit too heavy (think they are 45-130 but obviously would check before doing a deal - I'm currently at work). Anyone got a Nickel light 4 string set they want to swap them for? Would really love a set of DRs, but that's probably asking too much!! These strings have had about 2 hours worth of playing. Cut for a Precision headstock.

Cds for sale
Jamesemt replied to Jamesemt's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Way to ruin James' chance of selling these BB. You might as well have posted a reply saying "DO NOT BUY THESE CDS. THEY ARE sh*t"
Cheers Ray. FWIW I'm selling these as I don't use CDs anymore and they end up just kicking about in the house. Death Magnetic and Chinese Democracy are both growers - both need about 30 plays each before you start to 'get' the music. The Flecktones CD is just really weird! -

Does Chris need any more feedback? Swapped instruments with him. Is a fine, honest decent bloke. Hopefully will be buying more off him in the future
... and ive found myself looking more at the ibanez basses which by contrast seem to be very good value for money
What's all this talk of Ibanez basses, have I missed something??

I've got a Thumper in my Precision and it sounds ace. Can't comment on a Vinatge, however.

How many of you are converted (successful) guitarists?
Jamesemt posted a topic in General Discussion
Just reading an earlier thread got me thinking. How many of you were successful guitarists before changing to bass? There is loads of talk about bassists being frustrated guitarists. Even said it myself years ago I played guitar exclusively for about 10 years, did a bit of teaching got bored and married, then stopped playing. Drifted to bass as I wanted to be back in a musical situation but had no desire to pick six strings up again. Good thing is that I seem to gain quite a bit of respect in the band as I'm a similar level guitarist to the guitarists. I realised the other week just how imprtant the other band members see the bass, I couldn't make a rehearsal so the band cancelled it... Oh and I really can't see the appeal in the guitar anymore -
I'd be up for it depending on the date (I work a lot of weekend days)

I've got a guitar pod XT and was wondering if I'd be better off with the bass version. Are there many differences? I've seen that I can buy the bass expansion pack for my guitar version, is it worth buying?

Recommend me a book to improve my timing...
Jamesemt replied to Jamesemt's topic in Theory and Technique
TBH Im not quite sure what you mean by "timing" and if you mean 'time keeping' then learning about time signatures will not really help and IMO books are not the way forward. I once heard someone describe listening to records as an elaborate metronome, playing along with great players is a sure fire way to accustom oneself to locking in with an established groove. If you mean 'Time Keeping' let me know and I will post some suggestions for you. also +1 to nig for the metronome, I think you can have lots of feel fun with a metronome.
Sorry I didn't make the title overly clear. I am wanting to improve my knowledge of time signatures (although obviously my timing needs improvement, but that will take a lot longer...). I want to know what a 3/4 feels like for example, apart from knowing that it's 3 beats to the bar. -

Cheers guys - sorry for the belated reply. I'll have a look on amazon for a book. -
Can anyone point me towards a technique guide on the net for playing with your thumb? ie like Sting does...not that I particularly like his playing!!

I'm struggling to find a vintage Precision bass neck for a realistic price - anyone know of any other classifieds apart from talkbass and Ebay?
-
Would anyone be interested in a swap? The guitar started life as a blue highway 1. I got it professionally refinished in vintage white nitro and changed the neck for a US Deluxe version. Comes with a cheap tweed hard case. It hasn't been out of it's case since taking up the bass 18 months ago, so thought I'd offer it for a swap here. It's immaculate. Open to any bass really, could also do with a Precision neck (the more battered/reliced/older the better) for a relic project that just needs a neck. Could also add some cash into the deal for a really special neck (I reckon the guitar is worth £400 in the current climate). Any offers considered, it plays really really well. Everyone's welcome to pop down and try it - I live in Hull, or could meet halfway. If there is any interest, stick a reply up and I'll add some pictures.

SOLD Original Musicman Bass Case
Jamesemt replied to Rowbee's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
I am selling an official Musicman bass case which will fit a Stingray, a Sterling or according to Thomann a SUB or Bongo. The Thomann website wants nearly £130 brand new for this, I would accept £50. Collection would be far easier but if there is a requirement I could look into postage at the buyer's expense. Pics to follow
Can I have first refusal on this depending on condition? -
Firstly, I can't read music and don't have the time/patience to learn at the moment. I am looking for a book which will take me through time signatures as I play quite a few covers with my band and don't really know why the timing feels odd - other than it can't be in 4/4!! I don't even have a basic grasp so something which starts with the real basics (maybe with a CD of examples too) would be good. Anyone got any ideas?
