If it's just for home practice - get something cheap and put the rest of the money towards your gigging stuff.
Nah mate, quite happy with my gigging gear and I'm having a custom Shuker built - as well as buying a 79 p special at the end of the month. Besides, I spend far longer playing at home than I do gigging
Don't think you could go wrong with an Ashdown Electric Blue, 180 watts into a 15 inch driver and only £249... http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Ashdown_EB...mbo/ASH-EB15180
Sorry, should have mentioned that after my Superfly died I no longer trust Ashdown gear. What about the Ampeg B100R? The Line 6 110 is a possibility...
Gallien Krueger MB150s are very good. You could just get the head and use one of your 2x10s or go for the combo (possibly a bit over budget).
Cheers for that - bloody hell they are expensive!! I've got a spare 2x10 Peavey Cab in the shed which I could use... Any other ideas?
MB1. ....Little Jack Hohner (Jamesemt) will be with you soon! BUMP!
LOL that's a very nice early Jack with the better sounding (IMHO) humbuckers. If I wasn't having to pay for an LED setup on my two jacks/getting a custom build from John Shuker/sneaking in a '79 Precision Special without the wife realising (always have a spare bass case for such emergencies!!) or buying a practice amp I'd probably have taken this off you... These are fantastic basses - my two are my main gigging basses as I feel they play well beyond their purchase price, balance beautifully, are extremely light and are quite punchy. Batteries are easier to change in these early ones too. Have a bump on me

I'm getting a bit sick of my bass running through a bass trainer and a hifi - I think I'm going to get a decent home practice amp. I've got a rack setup for rehearsals/gigs which consists of a Bass Pod XT Pro and 800 watt power amp going into 2 2x10 Eden Nemesis cabs. I can't be arsed to connect all this gear up to play at home, plus I could do with a smaller setup (not small, just smaller). What's the best sounding home practice amp this side of £400 without resorting to any effects? Size isn't really a factor and I don't play overly loud at home (got two young kids to think about). Despite what my main setup sounds like, I much prefer something warm and punchy (prefer 15s - the Edens are a compromise to save my back as they are Neo cabs). FWIW I'll be playing pop/rock - I'm just doing my homework before forming a Bon Jovi tribute... Any ideas?
I'd rather like a Superfly with a knackered output to use as a pre-amp. Anyone got one?
I've got a superfly working on one channel if anyone is interested??

What is it with trying to find a bass that works for me ?
Jamesemt replied to markdavid's topic in Bass Guitars
For me it boils down to when I was a teenager and not being able to afford the gear I lusted over. Now in my early 30s I've got the disposable income to buy pretty much what I like...and usually end up buying another SX lol -
I fitted a drop D a couple of weeks ago. Whenever I drop the tuning peg and then click it back up it goes slightly out of tune. The second time I do it the tuning goes way out... Is this normal?

Having played five gigs with the band, just wondering how many songs you play on a typical pub gig? Apart from obviously starting and ending both sets with strong songs, is there any formula to fast/slow stuff?
the only problem i have is that i cant return it and it has no waranty.
That's fair enough but we aren't talking about a lot of cash. Regards SX origin, all mine come with a made in china sticker and I believe SXs are made in the team international group of factories
Dont know if i'm right here, but but these undbranded ones look like they came out the same factory. anyone know?
I could be wrong but the unbranded Jazz I played in Doncaster was definitely not an SX - it was a different shape body (I'm VERY familar with SX jazzes!!)

I've got 2 210 Nemesis cabs which are great - really light weight. Can easily carry one in each hand. Had mine for a year, currently pushing 800 watts through them without any problems.
-
Why not import???? The only difference is that you'll get a £20 customs bill through the post!!

In very good condition - think there is one slight mark but thats it. This is the newer version with the plastic buttons - has a great instant rewind button that you can specify as to how many seconds it instant rewinds. Great for working out song parts. Also includes effects/pitch and key change as well as a tuner. Obviously plays CDRs. Comes with a PSU. For sale as I've got the MP3 version and just bought an Alesis Jamdock. SOLD Easier to send photos via email as I'm always clogging my basschat account with photos that need deleting!!
Not interfering with the next tuner somewhere?
No there's plenty of space
-
Is the nylon spacer/washer between the mounting plate and tuning peg installed and did you lubricate the contact points?
I didn't lubricate the spacer, only the tip of the lever. What it best to lubricate with? LOL never even heard of lithium grease!!??

I think you are generalising the reasons people have custom basses made. I've got a Shuker in development as I couldn't get exactly what I wanted in an off the shelf bass - ultra light weight without being neck heavy/top Leds/active and passive with different volumes in a 33inch scale...with a buckeye top!! The only extravagant part of the build is the top - everything else I have found lacking in other basses. I play both styles - although mostly fingers as I keep losing plectrums
-
All I can say is wow - it's totally transformed my SX, which I thought sounded pretty good before!! Well worth the cash, and solderless fitting too!!
-
Mine did this - I THINK mine was down to not pushing the mains lead in far enough. After three attempts with different leads, I went back to the original kettle lead, gave it a big push/waggle and it sprang into life... IMHO when you can afford it ditch the unreliable POS. I struggled for two years with mine before one channel died... Funnily enough, I was using practically exactly the same setup for similar reasons. Had a kidney pod with the superfly, racked pod pro/poweramp for gigs. Now for rehearsals I use one side of the guitarist's power amp/mixer - not quite as good sound wise, makes me appreciate the sound at gigs

Hi guys, I've just fitted a Hipshot ultralite drop D tuner, but when I try and drop the tuning by flicking the lever the peg doesn't go all the way to the lower pitch and to the stop. I still have to give the peg a little pull to fully recline onto the nut stop if that makes sense?? Once fully over, it's fine. I'm not talking about tuning, but in how easily the peg moves when the lever is flicked. As I've never used a drop tuner, is this normal?? I expected that once I pull the lever it would drop to the pitch.
