Inpulse Christmas money Ebay score. So I now have one on the way. What can I expect? Thicker sound or total failure to track my already disgustingly detuned bass. Search tells me nothing, the only mention of them is someone else asking for opinions? Has no-one really tried them? Will I soon be the authority?
2.
there is no market for aluminium strings.
Thats probably a softness issue, and they would coat your fingers in nasty also.
3. The pots are the inside trickery of the knobs. If sound comes out when they are turned all the way down, its because they aren't perfect pots. Is it enough sound to be a problem? New pots is the answer then, pretty simple job generally.
4. I don't think I've had any instruments that haven't needed this doing. Never been convinced the little srews generally used are adequate for the job, bit bigger screw shouldn't work loose and start reaming a big hole in the first place.
5. Did you attach the wire to the tone pot with the capacitor? you might have bridged the lugs to the capacitor with solder, so it's like tone is all the way down.
6. Balance and position is probably more important that you think, as is strap comfort. Not just the height you wear your bass, but the position of your body and how much you shift your balance. I've switched between a Mockingbird and a P copy, and whilst they are comparable weight, the feel of them hanging on me is totally different.
7. Has it got to be new? All sorts of nice toys in for sale section. Especially my peavey Firebass and 15" cab, with free second blown 15" cab if you feel the urge.
8. Was gonna make a new thread but could bump this instead. Just left some strings in a tub of meths for coupla days. Brough back some zing. Not brand new annoying treble, but just right, got the sustain back. Like coupla days played in.
9. On a daisy chain powering my other pedals.
10. I have the GA140 head, somone should totally buy mine also and use the biamp output. It did sort of do Trace with the 6x10 matching cab.
11. That was up on local classifieds, probably same dude, woulda bought it if I had a job, could go take a look at it since I haven't and come up with a first hand description.
12. Lower one in this:
13. If you are anywhere near bristol you can come and get my blown 1x15 for free and rob the casters off it. Its the same size as the TVX 1x15, so think it will be same size as 4x10.
14.
Have you noticed guitarists flee in terror away from active guitars? Active guitars are almost as rare as flying cows.
That's not nearly true, loads of guitarists use EMG pickups, from Prince to Zack Wilde to Ben Chappell.
15.
And do Fender deliberately use sh*t paint (see Rory Gallagher's Strat for another example)?
Yes, see Highway 1 series:
The Solid Alder body has a very thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish which lets the body grain and natural tone appear through the finish. This also gives the guitar a vintage look straight out the box and it will age and wear-in over time.
16. Know people with macs, they are hard/expensive to fix when they break. And there are less people to ask for tips. Vista is also a pain in the balls. I've got a PC with XP and it does me fine. I don't do much fiddly music stuff, since I get my housemate to do it on his mac, as he has better software and skills. There is a lot of swearing and cursing dying power supplies though. PC's are easier to maintain, but you need to maintain them. Never felt the urge for a mac.
17. I've generally ended up borrowing rigs at gigs, so I try and get 'my sound' on my board with a Sansamp and a distortion/octave divider for drone parts.
18. Not much moeny, Not much bass either I guess: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/jazz-copy-bass-guita...%3A1|240%3A1318
19.
Argh, this is absolutely my ideal Jazz! Terrible timing unfortunately.
One of those rare times when a bassist has no money and no plan to buy another piece of equipment.
20. 26 fretless frets mind.
21.
Sorry for my lack of attention last night - lost about 8 hours playing Fallout 3. Anyroad up, as has been explicitly pointed out, it could be anything but a Yammy! Interesting suggestion that it might be German, I have seen the occasional Marlin-branded P copy made in the DDR (the old East Germany, kids) and there's an old Str*t copy on Ebay at the moment which the seller reckons to be German - so it seems they exist. Otherwise I'd say Hondo, or a different Samick rebrand, or go with Andy67's Kay suggestion - the later plywood KB24s were very much like this. Anyway, can't hang around, I'm presently trapped on the roof of ruined building, beseiged by Fire Ants... J.
Shoot the antenni off, they'll finish the work for you.
22. If I bought this and put it in my blown cab, would anyone buy the cab for not much more? Or someone buy this and come and get my cab.
23.
I am about to move from Minidisk to solid state WAV/MP3 recording, so my old gear will be sitting around doing nothing from Christmas onwards. I have a Sony MZ-R37 portable minidisk recorder, in working order, and just over 50 minidisks. If anyone wants either, or both, for the cost of the postage, please let me know. David
Interested in this. Gotta be ok for recording practice right? Oli
24. Think we've discussed this style of tuner before, but this has a logo.
