Think they might be a T-nut under them now. There were a couple of dehandling incidents I heard of.

Not sure what to do with my bass, keep or trade, advice wanted!

Swap bits with the Highway you you, so you can figure what the bit you like it. You might end up with an even weirder frankenstein, but it will be your weird frankenstein. -
Just another reason for me not to like Ricks (can i use the short term or should i have to use the full word?). They're ugly, heavy, uncomfortable to play, sound very poor, don't balance right and the price is ridiculous (yes i've tried them, the originals, one of them was even a vintage oldie). If i don't see one again i would be ok with that and i sincerely hope that the brand takes a severe hit on their sales due to their attitude... Sorry if i offended any BC members, this is not intended to you Cheers
I think the new ones are better than the oldies, since more recently they copied the Japanese makers in going to CNC routing and shaping. Funny they didn't copy the pricing though.

Maybe a bit less blatant than actual namechecks.

Ebay policy somehow cover copies of basses that Rickenbacker never even made. Just to clarify, we can post pictures of copies in not for sale places, like porn section and such, its all about advertising? The thread title concerned on that count.

Matamp tend to be very transparent, so with an Aussie playing into it, they'll have an Aussie sound. American sound is rely on the equipment to do the work rather than the player, so favours heavily coloured amps, hence 'Ampeg sound', and the VT bass etc, working as simulators of that colour. But clean is clean.

Depends how you order the GT200, could be a clean machine, could be much gruntier, since there is a degree of custom to it. Also there is a Mark 2 GT200 which is bit different. Kind of comparing a mass produced imported amp to a handmade boutique one though.

Stringing Through The Body v Stringing Through The Bridge
Given a fixed string mass and a fixed vibrating length you will always need the same tension to get the same note, so no it cannot have any effect.
Wrong reasoning. Tension isn't static when you are playing a bass, it changes due to the fact your fingers are touching strings, how it changes is called compliance, and that is effected by the anchor points of the string, which can be independent of the points determining the vibrating length. Actually, there are several vibrating lengths, since tensile vibrations are not arrested at the witness points where lateral ones are, so there is a tone effect too. -
The Croft is no more. I mean, not because of that gig, but "Croft [RIP]", as the closed earlier in the month. There definitely was a reaction going on. One guy described it as "mind warping minor manic euphoric episode". Really, the big cabs are because not super powerful amps, and high volume requirement. the low end head is 140w, but has transformers the size of SVT ones as is specced to have a very broad frequency response.

If being imposing is the failing, get two. Probably posted my pair of Barefaced 2x15s pic enough now though.

Its fine if you listen and expect it to sound like a guitar. If it sounds like breaking, it probably is. EQ out the lows.

Everything depends on the properties of the driver.

Q-tuners. Not used them, but that is the idea. To get around the standard trade-offs, you need to go non standard.

Stringing Through The Body v Stringing Through The Bridge
Mr. Foxen replied to Dingus's topic in General Discussion
Its one factor of many. A 35" scale bass isn't that much longer than a 34" one, but people deal with the harder to play because of the sound. People also go lighter strings for more compliance, in spite of the thinner tone. -
Loud and clear, get active pickups, EMGs at 18v, you can put them really close to the strings without issue as the magnets don't have much pull. Most of the complains about EMGs is from using them at 9v where they are underpowered.

I've once had an issue with the footprint being huge, and not fitting on what appeared to be a standard headstock. Used the on the Octobass due to being huge.

A standby should cut the HT to the valves, which should disable the preamp. So either it isn't a standby, or the DI signal isn't going through the valves.

Resistance is what you can measure with a meter, impedance varies with frequency, so you end up with a graph. you can measure inductance, which is what effects the tone, it is sort of related to resistance, since they are both determined by how big your coil of wire is. Overall, resistance is not a good way to judge pickups for suitability. Usually the higher resistance pickup is going to be hotter output, and in turn be darker sounding, but there are all sorts of exceptions. Noise and feedback are pretty much totally unrelated to it, being prone to feedback is down to how well the pickup is potted, from not at all to vacuum impregnated, which also effects the tone independent of resistance.

I need a custom neck plate - where would I get one?
Mr. Foxen replied to alyctes's topic in General Discussion
Guy on another forum had the idea of making a standard 4 bolt neck plate with a tongue poking out for the purpose. I figured I could get them made easy enough, but was his idea, think he lost interest, the forum kinda died. Could make them tons easier with water jet cutting I can get done now. -
Modern 1x15 might keep up with an old 4x10, stuff has moved on.

Stringing Through The Body v Stringing Through The Bridge
Mr. Foxen replied to Dingus's topic in General Discussion
There is a compliance difference, but it varies depending on the not through strung style you are comparing to. I've not really spent enough time with two piece bridges to really know, but in theory should be a similar deal. I think the main thing is with through strung, its much harder to do it wrong, unlikely to have poor break angle etc. -
Finally got this one working again. Waiting for nice weather to oil the neck was biggest hold up:

Do you like the sound of the head? If so, just get a Barefaced Compact. Sorted.
