A massively geeky question about cab tuning
Mr. Foxen replied to Bo Millward's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thinking about what you are trying to achieve though it would be quite interesting to use just one of the Celestions with a partition inside the cab and then another 15 with a better midrange/top end in the larger top half of the cab.
If that sorta mod is the plan, probably best to use a proper sub driver, a crossover and stick a smaller mid driver on a board sealing the top hole. -
Speaker replacement options and dealers. 15" driver
Mr. Foxen replied to cameltoe's topic in Amps and Cabs
The by all accounts very good Eminence Kappalite 3015 looks to be ok in this box, not gonna go really low, but it is the first thing I modeled, and it looks happy, I am supposing the port is a round one? If you can get another driver much cheaper, might be better with one of those, you'd be wasting a bunch of the potential of the kappalite. -
We all have lines over which we would rather people didn't cross (as seen on the Ginger thread). When I discovered the origin of the phrase I personally felt it was an insult so chose not to use it. As for my history - which bit?
Crusaders. No-one should be made to feel ashamed of the history that forged their culture.
-
Probably from the Crusaders then (no, not those cool jazz funk dudes) so all the more reason not to use it!
I'm all for freedom of speech me. I'm not ashamed of your history.
Apparently (at least from the Turkish kids I went to school with 30 years ago) Cack means sh1t. In Middle eastern cultures, the left hand was reserved for wiping one's ar$e, and to offer the left hand to shake hands was a huge insult. Therefore, to call a left hander cack handed I would have thought fairly insulting. Sorry to seem pious, but when you have heard of the predjudice that left handers have faced - my mum (back in the 30's) was regularly beaten at school to get her to use her right hand then all of a sudden calling it sh1t handed doesn't seem so mild and meaningless after all.
If you aren't brown or homosexual, no-one has any sympathy. There isn't a link between the beating and the sh1t hand thing. Conformism makes life easier for the majority. The dirty left hand is middle eastern culture with a fairly sensible reasoning behind it, the beating in schools is a Christian thing, being a mark of the devil, as I was hinting at.
Nah, its sold. Are there any guitar pedals that will give you a good tone and nice punch to your sound too?
Really need to give some examples. Non-guitar pedals are generally better for keeping the punch. Sansamp is the default option.
-
Throw up some examples of the sorta sound you want. Bad Monkey will take out the real lows without modification. Nick was selling one with the mod, see if that is still going, should sort you for a bit of drive.
Made me laugh to be honest as I saw the humour in the title straight away, but others may not I guess - but yeah, the term Spaz is quite a lot out of order, but cack handed is hardly offensive, not really... is it?
It's the mark of the Devil!
-
Tube overdrive is a fairly meaningless name, no tubes involved in a Bad Monkey, they work fine with SS amps. I quite like them, but I have a Blackstar that has a real valve in it.
Nope, you'll be pleased to know I asked Rich if it belonged to anyone or to RS and he said "it's not ours, so you can't use it". I bloody wanted to though
Funny, cause someone keeps turning the tweeter on and leaving a 180w Behringer head plugged into it. I'll let him know you are good to go when I book next practice. -
Would anyone be interested in a proper CD of this?

Possibly the ones made for the domestic US market don't have the transformer with multiple taps.

Chances are some other people here will be watching it too. This way, you can say 'I'm watching that' and pm and make a gentleman's agreement not to compete with each other and push the price up. I've done it where I was planning on putting opening bid only on something, and some0ne else was planning on bidding. They ended up getting it for opening bid, but if I had bid that it would just have cost them more, this way I got first call on it when he resold. -
No, he needs one of these:
Just occured to me that if the House of Bass piled all our big cabs up on their sides, it would be about that big. Bet we have that much valve power too.

The Sunn 1200S does have a tube preamp, it is the same pre as the 300T. Only used the 1200s so not idea how similar the sound is, can't imagine it being very different. It is still a heavy beast though. Awesome sub lows and a great compressor sound about right. It is JoeGarcia's main amp, although he always uses at least one in addition, check out his stuff for some idea.
I tried this once and all it seemed to do was move the dead spot down the neck. IE it was originally on a high D at the 7th fret, after putting it on it moved down to C.
Think you aim to move it between notes, got unlucky there. Maybe move it around the headstock, or different weight one.

My sofa is flanked by an Aguilar GS412 and a ABM 8x10. I have never heard the neighbours complain.

A massively geeky question about cab tuning
Mr. Foxen replied to Bo Millward's topic in Amps and Cabs
You'll want a separate amp to run your 2x10 for top. might be better with a guitar combo/2x12 and head. -
I looked out of the window yesterday to see some guy in a blue van with one of those fuzzy boom microphones on the pavement outside our house. Has some music hating (loving?) neighbour rat finked me out the environmental mob? I wouldnt mind but as i dont live on my own and we are semi detached it cant exactly have it loud! Anyway i am pretty sure it was the guy 2 doors down, he'd love to get me for something. Wot a snobby sneak :snob:
Should act like a harassed celebrity, cover your face and do that arm waving/blocking thing they do.

A massively geeky question about cab tuning
Mr. Foxen replied to Bo Millward's topic in Amps and Cabs
Not geeky enough. Check this for info on the low F# fundamental. [Hint; you can't have it and you don't want it] The 'frequency response' is fairly meaningless number for oversimplification purposes. Download WinISD Pro here. What is the cab made of? If it is good solid ply, might be worth messing about with. Firstly you'll need loads more port area. Might be good to start again with he ports and use some tube you can sleeve another one in and have telescopic ports so you can alter the tuning. I'm not so good at eying specs and seeing what a driver is like from the specs, but I reckon that is the sort of driver to need a really big box to get really low.
