You need to have read a lot of the wierd things the placebo effect can do before you start seeing the need for such a complicated experiment. I wish the scientists on that thread could have gently explained the need for a full double-blind test, and given some examples of how much we can trick ourselves, particularly with aural perception. Seems I'm a technician. My position in the music scene is technical support apparently. Was at a venue to pick up a bass today, one I played at coupla weeks ago, taking a leak, sound engineer comes in, takes a leak next to me and goes for the old 'Musicians, eh? Vuh!' stuff, as we, the people who have to sort everything out for them all well know. I was kinda figuring I was one of them that was just a bit more capable, but am apparently 'one of us' to the techies.

2x12 is probably loads if you have the high passed out at 100-150hz, just gotta obey the rules of speaker placement, because without the undirectional lows, the mid beaming thing is going to be extra prominent.
