1. I've been on the lookout for a 5 string Aerodyne for years now! Don't come up often. That's a pro and a con I suppose.
2. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
3. Bought Freddie's BF Twin - top guy to deal with. Only just managed to squeeze it into the boot of my saloon car. GASing for an estate now! Cheers Freddie!
4.
my contents insurance covers stuff left in the car as standard. I wouldn't normally leave a bass in there, but if I've got a gig in the evening and a business meeting on the way, I'll probably not take it in with me, just try and hide it as best I can.
Be careful, if you get paid for gigs then your house insurance probably won't cover your music equipment in that event.
5. Forgive the 'have you turned it on and off' style response, but are you sure you're not just switching the amp between standby and on? It is a 3 position switch: Top, off. Middle, standby. Bottom, on.
6. I had a feeling that it might be here somewhere. I scanned the first couple of pages but didn't see anything related.

8. I use the above with a small length of XLR to tidy things up a bit otherwise the thing sticks out like a sore thumb. I bought an attenuator after I got a poor sound this one time from an inexperienced engineer. Every gig since I've told the sound guy about the hot output and things sound great - never had to use the attenuator but handy to pack in the case.
9.
Do you use it a lot?
I am at the planning stages of putting a lighting rig together. I need something before a wedding in June. Those headbangers caught my eye and have pretty decent reviews, even in audio mode but don't want to rely on that entirely.
10.
Post a link to your DMX fixture. Do you mean Chanel 11 on your fixture is strobe? Seems odd unless it's a 16 Chanel fixture. In which case I think you can usually fiddle with addresses and fool the controller into controlling it by using channels 1-8 on one address and 9-16 on another address. I'm not totally sure about that though.
Ah, it's only channel 11: http://www.soh.cz/data_images/Image/pronajem/manual/headbanger.pdf
I don't really need a foot switch
Perhaps I'm being lazy, there would only be 3 or 4 settings maximum that I'd need to switch between so there really is no reason why I couldn't use the mixer. Found some wireless DMX receivers which look handy too. Seems to be a lot of cable that comes with the territory.
11.
Actually things have moved on since I last looked. Foot switch and DMX controller all in one £84. I think I need one of these. https://m.thomann.de/gb/stairville_led_foot_8_dmx.htm?ref=mm_a_15
I saw this earlier, looks to be perfect. The only thing that put me off is that the strobe effect is on channel 10 and 11 and that is an 8 channel mixer. Would this mean that I wouldn't be able to have any stobe? Seems a bit daft. Not sure if this question is standard DMX related or one I'd have to ask the manufacturer. All new to me this is! Can see why it could become GASeous to some!
12. Norris, how do you switch scenes using your Stairville? It looks like a nice bit of kit, could just be the thing that I need.
13. I'm currently at the stage of shopping around for lights for my band so I'll use this opportunity to high jack the topic to ask for advice if you don't mind?! I'm quite keen to get a lighting rig set up which can be adjusted with a foot controller. I've seen some moonflower LED lights, lasers and some pretty sweet looking motorised LED spots which are all DMX controlled. My question is, would it be possible to programme a foot switch for solid colour or slow fades for slow tracks, and strobe effect and faster colour changes for faster songs? Assuming this is possible I'd love to know what kind of equipment people use. At the moment we use two PAR64 cans to illuminate the band using the sound activated mode. This looks a bit pants and I'd like to get the lights looking more uniform to give a more professional feel. Anything to help disguise my playing.
14.
Contracts are a two way thing and using them means that you need to be aware that if you (a band) decide (or have to due to unforeseen circumstances) bail on a gig or booking, would the other party be entitled to remuneration/compensation?
Good point. How would this be built into the contract? We could find a dep if one member become sick, what what if something happened which meant that the entire band couldn't play? Does anyone have a clause which says that the band would pay £XXX to the organisers in such event?
15. "...The remaining 50% of Fee is due immediately prior to Band's Show, but may be made earlier. 4. Cancellation. If full payment is not made by the time immediately prior to Band's Show, Show may be cancelled by Band, and Operator may not seek any damages." I've nicked a basic live performance contract from the inter webs, there it is above. I've never played a gig whereby payment is more substantial than a few drinks at the bar, but this could become a regular thing for my new band, so I thought I'd do things proper-like. The contract above seems fair to me, but as a consumer I'd be happier paying for something after I've had the goods. Just seems a bit strange hunting down a bride or groom and getting them to dish out the dollars before they've had a chance to dance. Having said that, you don't pay for airfare when you get to your destination, so is there a proper way round for cash at gigs? Have you any experience when things have worked out in your favour or gone against you when taking payment? Does it rally matter? Cheers
16. I saw this cab in the corridor at the studio earlier today. I used to work in a rehearsal studio where personal equipment was stored securely but I've been to plenty of studios where equipment overflows from open storage areas into corridors, kitchens, sometimes the studios themselves. Thought this was a pretty novel idea. Certainly enough to stop a cheeky punter from 'borrowing' your gear over the studio's tatty stuff. I prefer to cart my stuff home but thought I would share this for those of you who might have experienced trouble where you have to leave equipment in public areas.
17. Evening all. My cello is getting even less use than my bass and I'm keen to store it in the loft. It has a good hard case but I'm having difficulty finding advice regarding storage. For long term storage I was considering placing some silica gel packs in the case, but I've read that if the atmosphere isn't that humid it can cause more harm than good. Sorry for hijacking the double bass forum, but if anyone can share some experience it would be appreciated! Ta
18. Looks like XLR output, not Speakon(?) Suppose you could use both outputs if you wanted, so long as combined load isn't below 4 ohms. Like aldude suggests, don't use a mic cable. Get hold of an XLR speaker cable.
19. Don't buy both, you'll lose loads of money on the gear you decide to flog. Ask around, see if there's someone nearby who will let you try out their stuff in exchange for beer/biscuits if you can't try it in a shop. I bought two cabs when I only really needed one (using an OTB!) and lost quite a bit on the cab I decided to sell. Also, walking for 5 minutes might appear easy, but with a bass in a hard case, amp and cab in hand you will probably want a little collapsible sack truck. Lightweight stuff is a blessing house to car, car to venue, venue to stage, but the whole lot combined is still a bugger to lug around on foot for longer journeys on foot!
20. Skidder, I agree with a previous post- try without your Compressore. My EBS compressor takes most the low end out of my rig but sits tightly in the mix.
21. Someone from Absolute music has been in touch with me. Very impressed with their customer service. Apparently this is the expected life of a 9v for the pedal I have. The adapter I used kicked out a nasty hum, but after checking the spec I think this was because I used an AC adapter instead of DC.
22.
if you have a mains lead you can check if theres something else the matter
I used a mains lead for the midi controller I have and the thing lit up like a christmas tree. From this I can only assume that it eats batteries. Will probably have to build a small pedal board with power supply. Pity, cos this thing fits nicely into my amp case. Mr Foxen, I checked the pedal and the Suisse have opted for an arrow symbol instead of in/out writing so I'm assuming the thing is wired correctly! I seriously can't believe that this piece of equipment goes though batteries that quickly. Proper high grade Duracell batteries too, not your pound shop rubbish. Pffff...
23. I'm lucky to get a few hours from a 9V battery when using my EBS Multicomp. No more than five hours maximum... should I send it back? I'm using one of these fellas to link it to my tuner http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Offset-Jack-to-Jack-connector-for-Effects-FX-Pedals-/280851071577?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4164074259 I'm assuming this isn't affecting the power in any way? The pedal is unplugged when its not in use, but out of interest, would a lead left in any socket drain the battery like the circuit in an active bass? The volume drops to a very low level and the light stays on regardless of settings used. This is my first battery powered pedal so thank you for any feedback.
