1. Sod lumping a 410 about if all you really need is a preamp for tonal purposes. Consider a Sansamp DI or preamp like bremen suggests if all of your gigs are guaranteed to come with decent FOH and stage monitoring. If not, maybe the CL with a smaller cab.
2. I can only vouch for my active Stingray, but I don't use the active pad on the Terror and it sounds great. Keep the signal as hot as possible with no noticeable clips from the cab.
3.
Only thing that puts me off is people saying they don't handle acctive very well. I'm using a sandberg basic which has quite a powerfully preamp. Anyone used one of these with a berg or other active to good effect!
I don't use the active pad with my Musicman, but gain is set fairly low. Sounds like another misconception along with myth that this amp doesn't do clean.
4. This cab fits in the boot of my tiny Mazda. It also sounds peachy with my SR5. My Hartke LH500 didn't get on with this cab, the volume jump was far too sketchy. I now use an Orange Terror 500 and I've not felt gaseous since!
5. Curious to see what my results are, but with things like this I get annoyed if the results aren't anything close to what I would expect (or hope) to find... Similar to an IQ test. Duuuuuuuh...
6. Thanks for the advice everyone. I think given that I'll be playing and singing at the same time, I may go for the standard 58 on the basis that the pickup pattern would be more forgiving.
7. Hello folks Does anyone have experience using both the SM58 and SM58 Beta microphones from Shure? This will be my first stage mic and I wonder if there is much benefit in splashing out a few extra $$$ for the beta. Cheers
8. Had my guitar, amp, cabs and pedals named individually on my contents policy with Co-op. Told them that it wouldn't be used for business/professional purpose, as there is little income involved and my playing is more of a hobby. Called today to add a new pedal to the existing policy and the lass on the phone informs me that if we are performing in a venue that benefits financially from the band playing, then this is classified as professional use. Removed all the equipment from my home insurance and got a policy with Endsleigh this evening for about £80 a year. Totally fumed that I've been paying for insurance that was utterly useless.
9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5BdyIGtYcg#! Not heard these folks till a pal sent a link to this quite frankly, incredible music video. 475,000 hits in about a month. Will have to film something like this for my next music video. Could source a tiara if someone is willing to wear it?
10. Agreed, but.. at the end of every post gig drive is the ultimate gear trek. Not pleasant if you live in a first floor flat on a main road and usually have to park several hundred metres away!
11. I notice a low cut when using my EBS Multicomp. Does this encorporate a similar cut off or is it just a characteristic of multiband compression? The Micro Thumpinator looks bangarang, but it's a pity that it can't run from a 9v battery.
12. Mark messaged me about my ValveDrive pedal. 5 minutes later the money was in my bank. Fantastic chap to deal with and the pedal was spared the wrath of ebay just in the nick of time.
13. This is going on eBay tonight. If a BC'er wants it for the original listing price I will cancel the auction so long as there aren't any bids:)
14. This is going on eBay tonight. I will cancel the auction early if there are no bids (and not many watchers) and sell to a BC'er for the original listing price of £220.
15. Wow, these are all really impressive stories. I've naff all on this! Jealous that the OP has a career and missed music opportunities to talk about in separate instances!
16. It acts as a surge protector and power splitter. When I had an amp, tuner, pedal and compressor they were all supplied with power from the conditioner. It saves having to find 3 or 4 sockets at gigs. Some people swear they clean AC line noise, [s]but I used it more for convenience and to protect the other units in the rack,[/s] so it actually improves your tone. (Disclaimer- it almost certainly doesn't improve your tone, unless maybe, you live in a country with a really wonky electricity grid)
17.
I have to say Soundslive are pretty damn good to deal with too.
This. I've found they take off 10% give or take. Just give them a tinkle and ask nicely. It's surprising what you can get away with. If you don't ask, you don't receive!
18.
bump
Thanks Johngh, this would be fantastic paired with the Hartke cabs you're selling at the moment. Someone could put together a mighty rig and save quite a bit here... BC January sale time! Flight case and the contents; amp plus power conditioner for £220. Case comes with a key and a panel to blank out 1U. All this gear will set you back around £390 new. The amp and conditioner are both in brilliant condition having received very little use (jah bless practice room Peavey TKOs) Collection or I can deliver locally if you're around Bristol. Alternatively I can box the case and contents if you can arrange and pay for courier to collect it from me. The 'bay is a callin', come on, treat yourself! Get in touch with any questions. Cheers John
19. 3 IEC male to female leads plus the IEC to UK 3 pin socket.
20. Yes, hundreds of them! Well, three or four I think. Will check for you when I get back from work. I'll even throw in a special IEC to UK 3 pin standard socket extension that I used to run from the conditioner to power a pedal.
21. I used to use a DTR1000 and got fed up of being unable to tune silently. I could mute my cabs using the switch on the rack, but 99% of the time we use PA support so although it was silent on stage, everyone in the crowd heard what was going on. This was though the effects send on my amp. Pity really, because the Korg tuners look fab on stage and do the job pretty well. I've swapped mine for a pedal now.
22. My kit is insured through my home insurance. It has to be specified as individual items though, cab, amp, bass etc because musical instruments are not covered otherwise. Includes accidental damage for a meagre £3 a month on top of the contents in my flat. Seems a lot cheaper than musician's insurance, but won't cover you if you play professionally.
23. Will also swap for EBS Multicomp in lovely condition
