I had the use of the LH1000 for 3 days last week and I agree it's a great amp which blows the competition out of the water, The LH500 is basically 1/2 the LH1000 and plenty powerful enough for most players. All the negative comments here seem to be from people who haven't even tried one, which is like reviewing a book before you read it - everyone who has played through one of these amps seems to agree that they are great and I can only agree. I don't agree that it's a starter head - if you love the sound and features why would you want to change it? However if you need more eq and features try this instead -
I'm off to try one these beasts out in a couple of weeks. My friendly shop owner has ordered one in for me. Can't wait Chances are that I'll be coming away with it. I'll let you know what it's like

Not being allowed to cool down(after heavy usage) and then taken into a cold environment. That did for mine once
Nice one Pete - I take it I need to turn the volume up to check! I know about the voltages that they can hang onto, mainly the reason why I'm reluctant to start mucking around with one.
Ummm yeah You shouldn't be in any danger from high voltages, if all you're doing is tapping the valves. If it's anything like my Marshall, all the nasty components will be hidden under some casing, well away from stray fingers Pete Edit: It may be worth investing in a surge protector too. I never plug my Trace into anything without that being in the way

Sounds like a valve somewhere. Take the back off, switch the amp on and tap the valves gently with a pencil, you should be able to hear the tapping through your speakers. If one of them rings, sounds microphonic or is silent then it could be the one at fault. Remember, there are high voltages in there. (apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs)

My previous band played the Thunder version, so I always played it like that. -
Looks to be a competative price also. I shall keep my eyes out for this beast at my locals.
I've got the guy who owns a shop in Northallerton, to get one in for me to try. Like I say, I'll let you know how I get on. I'm really looking forward to trying it out.
Whats the back of this thing look like? It looks to be a very well thought out amp on first observation...
Unfortunately, none of the sites(including the Samson site)show the rear of it. If the write-up is to be believed it has both speakon, 1/4 inch jack outputs and everything else you'd expect. And yes, on the face of it, it looks very good. It's had good reviews in the States too.
-
Now, I'm really interested in this. It seems to have everything I'd need. I'll be going to try it out shortly and I'll let you know how I get on. Valve pre, mute switch, switchable graphic, switchable OD etc. To me this is coming very close.

There's only one vehicle for me, a Renault Espace. We don't have kids, so the seats in the back are permanently removed. It's cavernous. It'll take both my 4x10's, Trace 1210 combo, both my basses and most of the bands PA gear. It's perfect.

Trace 715 repair in north yorkshire (and a few other places)
Tinman replied to bobbass4k's topic in Repairs and Technical
I took a marshall Tsl amp to him for a service, cost me £100. The reason it was so much was because it had dozens of dry joints in it and a couple of other bits and pieces needed sorting. They're always going to charge to take a look, otherwise they wouldn't be in business. Also, he's unlikely to kill it, he'll have all the Trace diagrams, test equipment and he'll know what he's doing. -

Tinman replied to bobbass4k's topic in Repairs and Technical
If you're anywhere near Northallerton, you could do a lot worse than take it to Rockbox. Iain, the guy that owns the place is a mate and he has a decent technician that does his repair work. Cheers Pete -
Welcome from 20 miles away
Tinman are you still with the Battle of Britain flight - saw them fly over the road we were driving on Thursday afternoon (lovely). Almost crashed when the Typhoon came over.
Not anymore mate, I'm actually on the Typhoons now, noisy beggars

Called my Shuker 'Lady T' after the wife. It's written on the headstock. I have various reasons for doing this, that I won't go into here:) The lads in the band call it 'The Marmite', the gits! They reckon I had Jon spread the stuff on it before laquering.

Now I just know there must be more than this out there
