We've seen all the build threads and the odd pic here and there but i thought it would be good to get them all together, in one place. After all, the Football season is nearly upon us and Shuker FC needs to get down to some training. I'll start: This is my Bolt on Elite. So come on people let's see 'em

Instrument insurance - who do you recommend
Tinman replied to 6stringbassist's topic in General Discussion
This is probably something most people neglect, I know I certainly have. I used to use Musicguard but fell out with them a couple of years ago. Last night I was lying listening to some music, and it occurred to me how much my gear is worth, it get's taken out 3 or 4 times a week, and well it's not insured. Who do you recommend. A quick search found these two http://www.victorcknight.co.uk/ http://www.allianzmusicalinsurance.co.uk/default.asp Both offer really good quotes, but has anyone ever dealt with them, and been unfortunate to make a claim, did you encounter any problems ?.
Mate, what was your problem with Musicguard? I'm insured through them and I'd be interested to know if they're as good as they appear to be, or whether I need to look elsewhere. -
I would, thus, from the comfort of my own a***, consider that, in terms of integrity, musicians that play their own music (in the broadest sense) are a cut above those who imitate others, however accurately.
That has to be the most pretentious load of clap-trap I have ever heard. IMO, it's not what you're doing that matters so much, as your attitude and professionalism towards it. Are you honestly telling me Pete Docherty has integrity?
Jazz music which is mostly people playing covers and a few people playing out of tune nonsense and calling it aventgarde.
Oh mate, plus the one!
Nice One Pete, looks like my old 410XL is doing the business with your 4.5! Im sure they sound amazing together, love the Hartke gear!
Thanks Luke Yep, thanks to you I regularly come home with the back of my skull caved in from the soundwaves
Absolutely!! "Original" has to be THE most overused and inappropriate word in this context. As an aside, Tom Barney who, until fairly recently, had been Steely Dan's touring and recording bassist for many years, had a "day job" playing in the pit orchestra for "The Lion King" on Broadway. Did that diminish his "musical integrity"? I think not!!
My point exactly! To my mind, if you work hard at playing your chosen music to the best of your abilities, then you have integrity. I do find it insulting to have so called 'original' musicians sneering at those who choose to play purely covers. Where's the integrity there? Are we not all musicians at the end of the day?
-
Bilbo It's sounds to me that maybe you should leave the 'covers' playing to us bubblegum chewing, Ikea furniture owning proles. Go make your 'art', do what makes you happy.
-
My turn. Nothing fancy, just an enormous sounding set up. Hartke 410XL,4.5XL driven by the Trace 1210 on the right. I plan to remove the head section from the Trace, put it in a box being made by one of our guitarists and use it as a proper head unit (I'm sick of lugging the combo around unnecessarily) The whole thing sounds huge and I love it. In the foreground is my stunning Shuker Elite. It's a work of true craftsmanship.
I don't understand the loss of integrity at all.
As well as not understanding it, the whole argument really annoys me. Do the members of the London Symphony Orchestra lack integrity because they play Tchaikovsky, rather than getting together to write their own stuff? Do the Arctic Monkeys have any more integrity because they do?
Sorry, but I think your description here is insulting. Do you think that Darryl Jones, the drummer in REM, Pino in the Who and the house band in the West End's We Will Rock You are prostituting themselves?
You have taken me out of context here. What I meant was that if you play in a covers band - as I do - then there is a good chance that you're going to end up playing some tracks that you're not keen on - as I do. The fact that you play them and play them well shows, as has already been said, that you have integrity and are professional.
-
I think there's always going to be a certain amount of prostitution when playing in a covers band. There are tracks that I play with the band I'm in, that I'd really rather not play but the punters love them and the other band members like doing them, so who am I to argue.

Does the sound of your bass make you go, "OH YES!"?
Tinman replied to OutToPlayJazz's topic in General Discussion
Had a rehearsal last night and there it was. Mind you it was more like "OH GOD, YESSSSSSSSS" -
GHS Flea sig Bass Boomers, I love 'em. They give quite a nice mellow sound when played with the fingers and a real punch when a pick is used. Pete

Have you looked at the Wiki? Also, somewhere on here(buggered if I can remember where) there's a very useful guide to tonal qualities by manufacturer. Failing that, there's Google. Type in Bass string guide or something like that and see what you get.
MB1. The "Oh No" moment was when you got the bill?
Haha, yeah, a little maybe but at just over what you'd pay for an 'off the peg' Stingray, I'd say the wait and cost were well worth it (even with the marmite ) -

I own a Shuker, so of course I've had the "oh yes" moment Seriously though, every time I plug it in - it just just wows me, I get tingles down the spine from the sound. Pete -
Fools... Mrs T 'is' Mr T, it's just his Friday night disguise. This whole armed forces is just some huge subterfuge to put you off. Ask yourself this when have you ever seen them (on-line) together? Ha! I rest my case Basschat is Big Love
Quiet WH! Any more slips of the tongue like that and I'll have to don the disguise and give you a damn good thrashing. Anyway, I'm back from the land of the burger and have been spending a lot of time cuddling my bass, gosh how I missed it. And yes Basschat is full of good people, it's a great place to be.
