A must-read for everyone who gigs in small venues.
Very sad story. Will definitely make me think twice when i go into a pub to play in future. It does make you wonder what kind of idiot you have to be to think pyrotechnics indoors is a good idea... The gerb pyrotechnic things fire 15 feet of sparks for 15 seconds, even if there hadn't been dodgy sound insulation that must have been an obvious bad idea from the start to anyone with some common sense...
As someone in a band that uses & has used professional indoor pyrotechnics safely and effectively for 20 years I don't consider myself an idiot, thanks.... You might try NOT to generalise in future.... 'The Station' venue in this piece was of wood build, with non-fireproofed insulation foam hanging out of the wall in various places all over the club. It was a death trap before this show took place. Should there have been pyrotechnics used here? Of course NOT..... but then a stray cigarette could have caused a similar fire at any point.... Like most hazardous products - Pyrotechnics are as safe as the people using them, the type/size of effect used (& it's suitability for the venue).... and the condition of the venue itself. We use mini gerbs (7 seconds of waterfall sparks which fall out cold and go to 8 ft height), silver jets (instantaneous jets of sparks - again to approx 8ft which fall out cold), Theatrical Flashes (puff of smoke with bang) and small flames (6ft high jet of flame). We only use them in suitable venues and are very careful with our positioning/use of effects..... -
and one more.... Lastly a US Stuart Spector Design NS4 from the crossover period when Stuart was still trying to get his 'name' back....

Oh go on then.... Here's a pic from a couple of years back of my complete collection.... there have been some new additions which I haven't taken pics of yet. A couple of these have also moved on to fellow Basschat members... the natural Euro & the Zebrano Euro... To break them down a little.... These are original 80's US Spector NS2's... the black & white are Kramer made and sunburst is pre-Kramer. All have HazLab preamps... These are Euros & Euro LX's (aplogies for the over-exposure of the colours in this pic...) The blue, white & plum ones are original solid maple Euros. The white JJ pickup is a NS2J ltd reissue and the wood/zebrano ones are Euro LX's... My 'holflash' Spectors. The one on the left is a full custom order US Black/Blue Holoflash with amazing abalone inlays... a beauty! Holoflash doesn't show well in this pic though. The one on the right is a Rex-4 model in standard holoflash. My beautiful Poplar Burl Euro LX.... stunning! My Asian-made Kramer Spector NS2A basses from the late 80's...... great basses! This is my oldest Spector and one of the first ever made. Made in approx 1976/77 this is an original SB1 with Dimarzio pickup. Some Spectors I don't have anymore... First up is an original early Euro NS2J reissue Next up is my only foray into 5 string. A stunning Euro5 which I loved but as I'm 99% a 4string player just wasn't being used enough to justify me having it... A gorgeous Spector ReBop I sold a few weeks back to fund something else. I WILL get this back someday...
how do you currently have the action set at the 12th? Pretty tempted by this
I can't get to it to measure it over the next few days......but take it as read that it is low enough to be very playable without fretbuzz.... I'm getting some other interest in this offline so if anyone's tempted it may not be here much longer at this price.... -

Not sure if anything about this has been posted before. Apologies if I'm late/out of touch. Guitar Nation 2010 Great seminars, clinics etc..... Guy Pratt, Pino Palladino, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Simon Phillips etc.....and the Saturday concert (judging by these names) could really be something! Shame about the ticket price though! Crikey!

With a big purchase on the near horizon and just a little more cash needed for it - I've decided to park with my lovely Charvel/Jackson in very rare slightly sparkly(?) purple!! It is one of the higher quality thru-neck models from their glory-era, complete with active pickups, heavy duty Jackson bridge and black hardware. Best described as a P bass on steroids it has an inherent big punchy/growling tone with a huge variation of other tones on offer from a very tight bridge pickup tone to a fuller thumping neck pickup. Controls are Master Volume, Bass cut/boost and Treble cut/boost with a pickup selector switch. As you can see the condition is generally very good, with just a couple of dings/scratches and the typical ding or two on the headstock.... Weight is approx 8lbs.... I'm looking for a very reasonable *SOLD*. No trades or low offers please. Pick-up from Central London/Surrey is preferred but will ship by courier of buyers choice & at their expense. *NOW WITH HARD CASE if shipped*..... Cash on collection or direct bank transfer please. Check out my feedback thread (linked below) for assurance of a clean, honest transaction. ROCK on!!!

I started playing having seen Gary Tibbs live with Adam & The Ants in 1981. My cousin then introduced me to KISS and they're firebreathing, blood spitting bassist Gene Simmons. That was me hooked..... From there I got into the melodic rock players of the 70's (80's was all synth & slap to me....) Peter Cetera (Chicago), Dee Murray (Elton John), Tiran Porter (Doobie Brothers), Joe Puerta (Ambrosia), Kenny Gradney (Little Feat) etc etc.... Outside of bass players and my family I'm not sure I've taken huge inspiration from anyone...
Hello everyone Well, I've decided to withdraw this bass. I just can't bring myself to sell it, even though I rarely play it. Apologies to all those who have expressed an interest. Best wishes Gareth
Phew!! Thank feck for that! Good decision Gareth

I'm pretty much GAS-free (well I will be in a few weeks time when a VERY special bass arrives)..... BUT.... I'd still like the following at some point: Spector Forte-X (New Spectorbird model) Hamer Impact (early 90's model - in black &/or white) Fender 'Geddy Lee' in Sunburst Fender 'Steve Harris' Precision Fender 'Aerodyne' Jazz (non-scratchplate version) Jackson 'Thunderbird' (early 90's model)

Hi Noel, Beautiful bass you have there! Unfortunately, due to the quality/availability/price-point of the 'Euro' series the US series seems to have taken a hammering s/h value-wise in recent years..... Is your bass worth £3500..... definitely. Would you get more than £2000 - £2500 for it? Sadly it's unlikely in the current market.... Sorry....!
Night Boat To Cairo. There's one little bit in it that really gives me grief. Again, I know how to play it forwards & backwards. It's easy, look. Do-do-do-do. See? But when it gets to that bit in a gig...
I think I suffer in the same bit!
