It’s totally not the rule. Rule is n+1 and not (n+1)-1. How do you define n in your rule?

I put flats on my P Bass the other week. I loved the sound but found it didn't cut through enough in the band. Realised it was a good excuse to get another P so I can have one with flats and one with round!!

The thing that makes we want to pick up and play a bass is when I see some one else playing it in the groove. I've been stalking your YT channel (signature link). Great playing and, hey, lovely bass(es)! Nowt wrong with HB.

I‘m considering cab options for my OTB an 2 x OBC112 is a strong contender for the portability an flexibility. Can you get the full power out of the amp or do the speaker struggle to handle? Thx.

That’s always my fear and the reason why I’d originally thought of getting a Barefaced big twin or similar. I just really like the aesthetics of the Orange kit 🙄 and want them to work with the OTB. I’m just not sure how much I want to go through the faff of returning them

How do you mean? 2 x 400 watt 8ohm put through a 500w 4ohm amp should still give the 500w and have headroom no?

I do fancy one of these and I brielfy had a Hofner Ignition and loved the short scale feel but couldn't stop thinking I was playing a toy! Just can't quite decide if I want 4 or 5 string. I could drop my SR505 if I got the 5 String but do I really want to?! Decisions.

Hmmm. This thread has got me thinking. I wonder if I should get 2 x OCB112 to pair with my OTB. It'd 4ohm both connected with plently of headroom in the cabs but if I wanted to just practice then one cab would be fine and the 250w at 8ohm would sit nicely in the single cab range. They are only 12kg each as well . . . .

I agree although I think a point to make is that in the mix is it less clear - solo it is more apparent. There are fundamentally different acoustic instruments - Hofman 500 vs Ibanez. I think its also fair to say that a more noticable tone difference is acheived through playing style - muting, slap, pick vs finger. There's also strings - maybe less noticable - and the way the strings contact the fretboard (i.e fretless vs fretted).

So true. And also the quality of the soundman which can make the worst bass sound passable and the best bass like a bag of spanners

It's like everything in the modern economy - basses / cars / bikes / clothes / furniture / TVs / glasses etc. etc. - its all designed to make you part with your money ultimately. Buy hey, that's why we have the marketplace, to keep that wonder wheel of recycled GAS spinning. All of which puts a smile on our faces and makes life a little more enjoyable!

We have Brass in Pocket in the set list but haven't played it for a while. In fact, I used to play it on a 5 string and have since moved to a 4 P Bass. Anyway, I needed to refresh so downloaded the tab and started to play. Didn't sound right. Watched some YT covers and tried to emulate. Still didn't sound right. After 20 minutes or so of scratching my head and thinking I was loosing it, I realised it was DADG tuning 🤣 ☺️

Picked up Clarky's Orange TB this morning. Lovely chap and amp was in perfect condition and sounds epic. Thanks 🙂

Yeah. I'm sure the my Mk1 gave the full power out at 8ohm.

@Lozz196 I understood the underlying point you were making which was more generally around how loud a rig can get before it's actually damaging your ears - notwithstanding @Downunderwonder point that its quite possible to over-extend a cab well before the ears are damaged depending on the capacity of the cab and the power of the amp which I think @Lozz196 clearly understands. I wanted to bring this back to OP as I've been doing some research the OTB is definiely only 250w into 8ohm and the OBC is rated at 400w at 8ohm so you will definately have headroom on the cab and won't get the full power out of the OTB unless you add another OBC.
