1. bought 3 pickups from this fine fellow. Payment was a doddle and the package arrived surprisingly fast! A pleasure to do business with! Not to mention helpful...
2. If you're taking a trip to london to try out basses, I wouldn't reccommend Denamrk Street...Not only are the people there pretty unhelpful, but they haven't got a great selection in my opinion. If you want a fender, then go for it, they've got some warwicks an such as well. My advice would be to go to the Gallery in Camden, it's a far superior shop! not only do they have greater range of basses for you to try, but the people that work there are actually helpful! Of course, the 2 shops are within walking distance, so you may as well go to both! Also, The Gallery have a website where you can check on what they've got in stock, so you can sorta plan out what you want to try before you go there! 3. Surely it could be that old instruments were built in a different time with a different work ethic? I sincerely doubt that the workers in the mexican factories care how good the instruments turn out! They aren't all payed to make sure that the part they're in charge of is immaculate. Whereas back in the day when fender started, people probably took a lot more care over each product, wanting it to be better than the last! Combine that with the fact that pretty much every dud instrument would've been destroyed somehow by now, so we've only got the good ones left. So people play these old instruments that look all worn down and slightly beat up (only due to age and use), and associate that 'roadworn' look with a good sound. Which in turn could quite easily make them think that the modern Roadworn basses sound better than they do, simply because they expect them too. At least, that's my theory on why people buy these things
4. Well I recently found out that not all jazz pups are the same, I bought some cream pickup covers to go on my wizard 64s, not from wizard though (Probably should've asked them first come to think of it). They got here, actually seem to fit in the bass better than the wizards did...Anywho, when it came to putting the 64s in the new covers, they didn't fit! I had to sand the holes for the pole pieces in the new covers before the 64s would fit! Still, well worth it, now my VMJ looks simply devine! Cream covers, cream strat knobs, black control plate + black pickguard...Match made in heaven!
5. Damn I wish I had one of these! So envious I don't suppose you know if the old style bridge/pickup covers will fit on these given the high mass bridge do you?
6. Any know if the old bridge covers will fit over the highmass bridges? If I got one of these I'd need to fit covers too it!
7. I'll try uploading the pics again, hopefully that'll work Hmm, I'm not sure about a spector, loved the few I've played, but I've got enough basses as it is, and I really just want a new amp! Ah what the hell, what model is it? Actually, I'd happily consider trades for any type of semi-hollow bass! Especially if it's an EB2 style shape!
8. Long-time-since-the-last Bump! Price dropped to £400, I really want to get this moved on to someone who'll play it. I'm in a band now which this really wouldn't suit! I doubt there's much chance of me getting into a metal band either. My choice of trades has changed, now i'm looking for a better amp! I really want a markbass head, if this sells you can bet that's what I'll spend the money on! drop me a PM if you're interested Cheers Jack.
9. I'd so happily offer to trade 2 basses for this! I've been lusting (Let's face it, no other word fits as well!) after a carved top for ages! If by any crazy chance you decide you'd like a heavy metal looking 5string and a normal looking 6 string, give me a shout! Oh, an yea you're crazy for selling this, unless the other 2 tributes are the same model...
10. I think i'll go for that then. The dingwall was comfy, just a tad too slanted in my opinion!
11. Yea that's the plan, I feel like my hand is a little twisted when playing the lower notes, I'm sure it would be alot easier if they were slanted at the nut as well. I could be horribly wrong, but it seemed pretty comfy when I played a Dingwall Combustion... Wow, thanks Waldemar! Looks like the perfect tool! I'm a bit confused with some of the stuff on page, but i'll figure it out I'd want it to be vaguely jazz width at the nut, so I'm guessing putting 1.5 in for the 'String Width at Nut' part is the way to go? Oh well. Thanks again for all the help guys 'n gals, most appreciated! Jack. Gah, I'm an idiot, never mind the stuff about that ekips page, just realised they've got little help things on there already!
12. Excellent! I was hoping for something like a calculator to work it out for me As good as I used to be at maths, I don't think I'd trust myself to work that out! Does it not matter where my parallel fret is then? In terms of playability that is, obviously for intonation etc it wouldn't. I'm guessing you'd want the parallel fret around the 5th-7th fret? I play a fair bit up near the dusty end, so I don't want the frets to get too slanted on either side.
13. A little while ago, I bought a P bass off of Moos3h for £50. It's a damn fine bass for £50 I'd say, quite a nice neck (Shame I'll be getting rid of it really). Luckily for me, a family friend in Manchester has offered to teach me some guitar building stuff, said he might even be up for helping me build my own bass from scratch if he's got the time. I don't want to inconvenience him too much though, and I'll only be able to go up for a week at a time. Originally I bought this P bass to practice some routing/re-finishing on, haven't gotten round to it yet though...To be honest I'm just loving the look of it hanging on my wall! haha. So anyway, basically i'm thinking of taking this bass up to Manchester with me, and modding it severely while I'm there. I want to try to convert it to a fanned fret bass! It's only a 4string, so i'm thinking 34"-32", nothing too severe I hope, I'm not sure if that will be a severe fan or not, might just go for 34"-33" instead. I don't want anything on the dingwall scale, I want to be able to use standard scale strings! How would I work out where the frets would go? I'm assuming it's a % thing? like the first fret is roughly...Oh I dunno, for the sake of arguement lets say 5% down the neck from the nut, the 2nd is an additional 3% etc etc. Obviously this means I'm going to get some single string bridge pieces, but besides that I don't want to have to buy much else besides whatever's needed for the neck. I'm fully prepared to rout out some of the body to fit the neck in by the way, I'd like to have more than 20 frets. I'm guessing the best thing to do would be to have the fretboard overhang the end of the neck? I'm going to be going for a simple maple/maple neck, tinted finish If it all happens I'll make sure there are many pictures I don't suppose there's some crazy website that would work all this out for me is there? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me Cheers Jack.
14. Wow! That's one sexy bass! Especially the neck, looks great in the photos, no doubt looks much better in the flesh?
15. Good to hear they'll hopefully be in shops soon! I really want to try one out. Hoping that the Gallery will get one of each CA in. Don't suppose anyone would know if it's possible to fit an old MM bridge with the string mutes to it though do they? That's the only thing missing from these it seems.
16. I've got a (now discontinued) LTD F 405FM...It's a great bass, just not the look I'm going for anymore sadly. Cost about 750-800 new I think, can't remember. It's sorta spikey, got a cool tribal inlay running down the whole fingerboard Sounds dark too, mahogany body with EMG pups and EQ. This is the one, can't find pics of me one, but it's the same model http://www.mveducation.com/assets/products/47106_l.jpg
17. ESP/LTDs generally have had nice necks on the ones I've played...Shame you're not interested in a 5, or I'd try an sell you my LTD
18. So, so tempted by this! If I thought I had any chance of selling my 5 string soon then I'd buy it...Oh if only, haha.
