I gone through tons of quality expensive bass and also come to conclusion that a fender ish Jazz or P/J bass will suit my need. I have a bongo atm which i'm trying to get rid or trade, but i think is to do with a GAS thing. I slept over it and decide to keep it instead. Hopefully no more GAS will come to me soon .....

Aren't part of flea's tone is low action and plugging the string really hard to get that fret buzz tone?

It really depend on personal taste in terms of tone and EQ. My band don't like deep low end tone on the bass and i prefer to hear myself better so lots of mid on my tone in band situation, so the LB30 is enough to do what my band needs. When I play in church i need the very deep low end tone but church music won't allow the band to play too loud so again the LB30 can handy that sort of gig easily. It all depend on the band, how loud your band play and what sort of tone you going for.

I use to own a musicman stingray and the neck on that is like a precision neck. but the bongo I have now is much thinner compare to my previously own stingray.

Big AI is a interesting bass, but for some reason i never get on with it, maybe is the look. Just like many people don't like the look of a Bongo lol.

I think many people misunderstood about the LB30. It can probably do a small venue gig like Ashdown says on the website. What I means was having a onboard preamp or not. I end up reinstall the passive unit back to the bass and sold the j-retro. I prefer passive fenders these days now. Less control on the bass means more playing for me.

If you absolute sure you need a new bass or an upgrade. I would suggest Fender Precision or Jazz. Fender may not be everyone's cup of tea but many people own one. I personally would go for P/J bass.

The next thing i got hooked up is adding a J pickup near the bridge. Now I'm aftering a new bridge, tuner and 2x stack pots to adjust the volume/tone for each pickup lol.

A finish product of a part build bass is fun to play. My P/J bass is a parts bass with my chosen neck, pickup, knob style, color, scratch plate etc. Is my go to bass these days now.

I feel your pain mate, I use to own a GK 2x10 combo. That thing sounds good, loud and powerful but is impossible to lure that thing up and down ......... ended up selling it for something more compact like markbass and TC stuff.

I've own a musician bongo, fender jazz and a part build precision. I ended up using the precision more because it sound good on its own and can easily get a workable sound without messing with onboard EQ too much ...... My fender jazz use to have j-retro installed but i've turned it back to all passive because i prefer less then more these days now. The bongo i got, i love it but more EQ option on the bass means more messing around then actually playing .....

To behonest i don't really know why i part ex the BH500 because is a very good amp for the money i paid. I think is one of those days when I feel i want something different. Ended up getting a LB30 but if I can choose again i think i will keep the BH500 for many reasons.

When I had a BH500 i keep everything flat and only adjust the spectracomp and tuber drive to my taste.

For thick booming low the LB30 will run of headroom really quick. When I at gig with PA support, i leave all the booming low tone for the sound guy to dial in. I'm more focus on hearing myself onstage with the decent tone. I'm not in a loud band so the LB30 will more then enough for my needs, but if you want booming low end, loud band and playing with a loud guitarist with valve amp and 4x12 cab, then good luck hearing yourself.

I haven't gigged with my LB30 yet ....... most of gig i was DI from a MXR M80 and use the venue bass amp as monitor. The venue bass amp is nowhere loud as my LB30.

You got me gasing for another P that i can string flatwound with lol.

If you up the budget a little bit more, you maybe able to find a used Fender on the sale forum.

I have Precision, Jazz and MM Bongo. I use Precision most of the time. To stir it a little bit more, i added a J pickup on the bridge position on the P bass.
