  1. I've completely give up on lowering the action. Is either 1-4 fret buzz or 6-25 fret buzz. I'm gonna take it to the guitar tech i use to go and ask him to lower it down for me since he did all my bass perfectly on my requirement.
  2. The rattle is around 7 fret onwards. So I have to raise the string height to get rid of it.
  3. I'm set the neck relief, adjusted the string height and set the intonation till is perfect, but action still abit high, I gotto admit i use heavy gauge string like 107-45. I guess some instrument can't go too low without some work need doing?
  4. If the bass is for playing then it worth the money, nothing beats a simple passive p bass with a volume and a tone knob lol. But if you planning to buy it and then sell it at a later day, then it is not worth buying it .......
  5. Seriously with my eyes blind and I can't tell between a stock fender and my bass. In fact my bass sounded better with more clarity in my opinion because of the Seymour Duncan P and J on the bass. I gotta love the slim fast jazz neck on my P bass
  6. I actually did the opposite. A P bass body with a Jazz neck ..... now the bass is P/J pickup config.
  7. The bass i'm trying to adjust is my musicman bongo. It got one of those wheel truss rod thing. When checking the relief, if a size of a credit card lifts the string abit, that means I need to put more relief to the neck? otherwise I need to straighten the neck right?
  8. I think I messup intonation ...... Since I already messup I might as well put things right at start now. 1) Check neck relief, and straighten if need lower? 2) Adjust string height till no buzz? 3) Adjust intonation on the bridge saddle?
  9. String were completely dead when i got the bass, but i think is a set of 40-100. I've put a set of balance tension on which is 45-107. Slightly higher then my usual taste but is still comfortable to play, I don't play gentle so i don't need uber low action. I think i will re check the action again and see what happen. If the gap between the string and the fret is thicker then a business card size i just straighten the neck a bit to see what happen. At least the musicman bass truss rod wheel is easier to adjust then my fender jazz where you have to take the neck out completely to adjust .....
  10. I wanted to adjust my musicman bongo action by a little bit. I've restrung the bass and it seems the action is slightly high by a bit. I've capo 1 and fret down the e string on the 12th fret and the gap between the string and the fret very narrow so i guess the truss rod doesn't need adjusting? Maybe straighten it by a little? The next thing to lower the action is to adjust the bridge string heights?
  11. At the moment the bass control unit is vol/vol/tone. Was wondering shall I change it to vol/vol/tone/tone. Both using stack pots so no extra drilling needed.
  12. If Rickenbacker have some kind of cheap copies that made by them like epiphone and Squier or even made by another country, i think more people would buy them instead of third party copies ........ Warwick start producing actual warwick bass that is not made in german as well ....... This is strictly my opinion, some maybe disagree.
  13. BC made the right decision on the Ric thing to avoid any problem etc.
  14. Depend on your budget actually ....... I favourite the Markbass and TC.
  15. Rockinbetters are pretty good actually. I personally think the Ric company are not too confident with their own products against the copies ...... Like Fender and Gibson, they know the people will buy there products even tho their are bunch of decent copies outside.
  16. The problem with that bass is the hum you get, but I can only hear the hum when playing through headphone so I'm not too fuss. Also the output balance of the pickup is pretty hard to adjust because the P split coil is more powerful then the jazz pickup, but then again i don't solo the jazz pickup, the jazz pickup is their to add abit of clarity of the tone to the P pickup. So overall I like the tone very much, nice deep low with clarity on the highs.
  17. I respect Ric basses but unfortunately I've tried one and is not my cup of tea so I moved on.
  18. How heavy are these cabs compare to the VS112? I'm thinking either VS212 or 2x VS112 if i can still get hold of them.
  19. Did a gig last on saturday using my P/J bass with no name on the headstock and I'm getting compliment on the good tone of the bass. They came up and asked me "what bass is this?" I said is a part build bass that I put together lol. The bass is consist the following: std MIM fender precision body with std bridge, Seymour Duncan SP3 split coil pickup on the p position and a Seymour Duncan SJ3 single coil on the bridge position, control unit is all passive and wired with vol/vol/tone. The neck on the bass is glossy maple jazz neck. I love how the bass feel and sound.
  20. I prefer more clean valve warmth tone then it breaks up and all go fuzzy.
  21. I'm gasing for the Bongo 6 HS now ....... inspire by John Myung =.=
  22. The look is not that bad actually ........ is different then a stingray but they still look similar ........
  23. Used to own a 3 band EQ Musicman Stingray 4 H but got rid of it for a ACG 5 string because i couldn't get on with the tone at that time. I recently traded the ACG 5 string with a BC member for his Musicman Bongo 4 HS because i miss the musicman tone so much in the band situation. First impression of the bass is nothing special apart from the knobs, headstock, 2 pickup setup and some dead strings. After I restrung it up with a set of brand new D'Addario balance tension string 45-107 and clean it up, the bass look much better. After restrung I plug the bass in for a test drive and oh boy, this thing is a monster compare to the tone of a stingray. I won't say better but is alot different. The 4 band EQ is very powerful and I can dial in what ever tone i want and the blend between the Single coil and the Humbucker is also very good because it alter the tone to give different tone range. From deep fat bass tone to typical musicman tone. I'm in love with the bass now. Only draw back i can say with the Bongo is, the bass doesn't feel good compare to a stingray in terms of build construction. Maybe the weight is lighter so it feels different.
  24. Damn, I wanted the cab to go along with my LB30 .....
  25. Man up and don;t get too upset with the ding, chip or scratches. I'm trying to worn my down naturally
