1. Or it could be my bass. Jazz bass with dimarzio pickup and j-retro. Huge low end beef already. It probably come through better on the headphone then on the cab. I gonna try different headphone to see what happen.
2. Was wondering what sort of headphone do everyone use when plugging it to a amp to practice? The headphone I'm using seems to produce too much bass when playing through the headphone, i have to crack the mid and treble and cut some bass but it still produce too much low end. On my bass i can't use the neck pickup and both pickup at the same time because the tone it produce is too much bass. I was wondering is it the problem on my headphone or is the amp i'm using? I use the headphone on my Ampeg BA108.
3. I will check out those pickups. Another question: If the pickups fitted the other way round will it affect the tone? What I mean by that is usually the pole piece for the low E string becomes the pole piece for the G string.
4. I'm going to try the bass for rehearsal and 1 gig to see whether i still like the active or not.
5. I do need a set of control plate and controls. When i replace the original controls and plate for the J-Retro i gave away the original part, so i don't have anything to replace it yet .....
6. I think i will experiment with the passive control with the Dimarzio DP123 first. If i don't like it then i may look into another pickup instead The reason i like to go back to passive is the more control i have on the bass the more messing around i will do ...... Thats why i like my passive p bass so much i guess lol.
7. If i fit a passive kit on my bass and i like it, the j-retro can go which probably sell more then the passive kit i guess? lol Another thing it kinda bugs me but is more of a appearance thing i guess but i could be wrong. The pickup on my bass was fitted up side down. The writing on the pickup is pointing towards the neck instead of the bridge (if you know what i mean). This don't affect the tone i guess?
8. I had my Fender Classic 60 jazz bass for over 6-7 years now (can't remember how long). The bass have J-Retro fitted 5-6 years ago and Dimarzio DP123 pickup. For some reason i like the passive tone more then active now. I'm not saying the john east preamp is bad but i think i've change. Thinking about replacing the DP123 pickup to a set of Fender original jazz pickup and replace the J-Retro with the standard jazz plate with 3 basic volume/volume/tone setup instead. Is this a bad move or consider as downgrade? I did think about leave the J-Retro and swap the pickup instead.
9. I start to miss the stingray now. I use to own one but trade it for a ACG 5 string instead because i need a 5 string and the ray is not suitable on the music i play ...... I really miss the ray now, but is too expensive to buy another one. Might need to keep my eye out on a old MM Sub instead. I never boost the treble on the stingray when i use it in the pass, in fact i only boost the bass a little and i ready to go.
10. I use to use the BH500 and TWO BC212 (2x12) and it is insanely loud. If you think a 4x10 is loud, think twice before cracking the 4x12 setup. If someone use three BC212 then i can't imagine how loud can this thing be. Right now i use LB30 and one BC212 and it is well enough for my purpose. Not to mention the cab is light!
11.
Could you di both if there's enough channels? One primary, the second a back up? Seems strange to have a nice valve head and not send that tone to the desk. Has it failed on you before?
Thats a good point, i think their is enough channel to DI both, just incase. I need to speak to the sound tech guy on the day to see what happen. Ideally i want to DI out from my valve head for the tone because is unique. The amp hasn't fail on my before and i have good feeling it won't. I'm one of those player that worry too much when it comes to gig. I think too much if that happen ..... what i can do etc ......
12. I normally use the MXR M80 to DI, I been using it for ages and is reliable. I can always DI out from the LB30 and if it dies during the gig i just switch over to the MXR M80?
13.
On the LB the DI is from the output, so if it dies, the DI dies, so you will need a backup one for that.
Thats means i better off using the MXR M80. Run parallel output. One goes from the pedal to the amp (using 1/4 jack) and one output to the PA (using XLR)?
14. It does look like the Tune Bass Maniac but i think the one in the video is a early MIJ Tune bass. The first video was film in 1991 but he had the bass before that, so i guess is a 80's Tune bass.
15. What I really mean is i don't really care what tone i get from the sound guy as long as i can hear myself on stage. If my DI from my amp and the valve blow up during the gig, will it affect the DI signal from my head to the desk? Or i DI from my MXR M80, if the head goes down i can still carry on but use the stage monitor as reference instead of my rig on stage? If that make any sense. 1) Which means if the bass output to the input of my head then DI out from my head or 2) Bass output to the input of the M80, then M80 output to the input of the head and at the same time also DI output to the PA.
16. I'm completely opposite then you. I hate the p neck and prefer the jazz neck. This is what i done: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/211094-bass-look-renew-after-neck-change/page__fromsearch__1
17. Those bass seems to have very slim neck and light weight. Never play one altho i love to try one. Haven't seem one of these in UK before.
18. My band is gonna do several gigs in the next month or 2 and the set is gonna be pretty long. My Ashdown LB30 is plenty enough for the gig but i haven't revalve the thing after the purchase (8 weeks ago). I don't use it much at home or practice anyway, only use it for gig. Most likely the bass will get DI on the gig, I was wondering shall I DI my bass from the amp or play it safe and DI on my MXR M80 instead?
19. I don't have any particular amp or cab when using my ACG bass. In order to get the bass sound of the bass i have to adjust the preamp when using different amp/cab, because each brand voice my bass different. For your reference i use Ashdown LB30 (all valve) and TC BC212 and my ACG 5 string sounded a beast.
20. I use to own a 4 string stingray 3 band EQ. Excellent sounded bass and fantastic tone in the mix and when playing with the band. It cut through nicely, but it sounded terrible on its own, but thats not the reason i sold it. It sold it because i wanted a nice 5 string ACG. But if money is not an issue, i will buy one again or even the musicman sub.
21. Six string Warwick Streamer Stage 1 for me.
22. I used to have the 5 string version. The pickup and hardware is the same as the us model.
23. I'm a big fan of this Hong Kong band in the early 80's and 90's. I was wondering what bass is this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RULfvZCK3uM I think is a 5 string Tune but not sure what model is it.
24. Talking about stock pickup, I fancy to buy a set of fender pickup to install it back on my jazz lol.
25. I use Seymour Duncan SPB3 because is cheap and is very good. I also like the Delano (big pole piece) pickup.
