That TE cab is pretty loud in my opinion. I use the 1153 myself and it provide me enough volume for the stuff I do, mine you i gig with a 200watt Trace Amp and a 30watt Ashdown LB30. You need more speaker for volume, watts doesn't give you as much volume as you might think. If your band is not playing very loud on stage and guitarist is not cracking up bass etc to suck up your tone. I would look into EQ first before buying anything. Lows usually sucks up power and doesn't cut through so you need to turn up higher in order to hear yourself. That means you will eventually run out of headroom (power) to go louder or remain clean. The Ashdown amps have something that boost the low, I would recommend turn that off along with the compression (if you got that on your amp) first. Try boosting the mid and cut some bass to see how it goes. Sometimes it sound very very bad on its own with those EQ but works well in band setting and in the mix. I tend to find myself cut bass and boost alot of mid when playing live and the low still remains.

Many people find the TE tone sucks and not so great because they use the preset in band setting and many TE users know the preset is mid cut with bass and treble boost (smiley EQ setting). I like to adjust it manually and find myself cutting the bass actually ....

I would prefer the 112 combo
-
I use to use two TC BC212 but then end up using 1 of those instead. It certainly loud enough for the type of stuff we play. I now sold it and got a Trace 15" instead because I want a matching cab with my trace amp. The BC212 is only 20kg and.
If you need a lot of volume, then a Barefaced Super 12 (or S12T) would be a good call - very, very light, too...oh, and it has wheels, too...
Good solution but he only got budget of £200 for the cab .... For the price I would recommend TC BC series. Not sure how loud can they go as I never get a chance to max out on my band but they are certainly cheap and light.

The Bugera BN410TS 1000w 4x12 Cab - anyone tried it?
badboy1984 replied to Yorgo's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think the whole selling point on the cab is power. Is nice to have lots of power but I don't think I need 2800watt on the cab ..... I would also like to see more spec on the cab. The price is around £350-450 for this cab. I'm not too sure. -
Adjusting pole pieces same as adjusting pickup height?
badboy1984 replied to badboy1984's topic in Accessories and Misc
The pole pieces looks like it use allen key to adjust. I guess I just turn it to raise or lower i guess. -
I've got a set of Dimarzio DP123 (Model J) installed on my bass for many years now and I have never adjusted the pole pieces on my pickup. Recently I wanted to experiment this to get more precise tone on my Fender Jazz. Adjusting the pole pieces is the same as adjusting the pickup height? or they are different?

Their is something on the TE graphic EQ that make it special when I use it. It always fits well no matter what.
-
Thats great to hear man. The thing about Bongo is, you can't get a crap sound out of it ........ I have problem with my Jazz bass on some gig but the bongo is always fits well.
-
I've experience the same problem before but it was not a Ashdown amp and is not my amp either. Was giging and use other bands equipment, the bass amp was a Trace Elliot 1x15 combo (gibson version I think). The amp was cutting in and out at start but the DI signal still works so the audience can hear the bass but I can't hear jack all on stage. Some how the sound came back on after awhile and it stay their till I finish my set.
Correct, although I seem to remember it was actually 10W. With a sensitive cab (e.g. a Barefaced Midget) you can get a surprising amount of volume from that, even without valves.
You are right about the 10watt lol. It have more power then I think lol.

Do they do fretless version?

That metal case made me believe is a tube amp but i guess I'm wrong ......

Ashdown DH-15-C110 15w All Valve 10" DROPHEAD 15 combo
badboy1984 replied to franzbassist's topic in Amps and Cabs
Any reasons why you selling your CTM15? -
I can't imagine it will be loud enough to do anything apart from practice or low volume house jam with friends ....... I personally would save my cash and buy a more expensive phil jones bass buddy instead because it does the same thing but it can be use as preamp only.
-
Isn't the Phil Jones bass buddy pump out 5w power as well but the head can be use a preamp?
-
I take it this is not a valve amp? I kinda like it for home practice without a speaker cab since it allow aux in and headphone. Better then buying one of those vox headphone i guess. If this is £99 i would definite get it to replace my vox amplug.

Filling the 'space' in a rock and roll band - help needed...
badboy1984 replied to dazza14's topic in Effects
Our band have the same problem last year when we only have drum, bass, guitar and vocal. We play new wave stuff but recently started doing 80's pop rock kind of thing. Because the songs we play is not really suitable to add stuff on my bass to fill the space, we end up inviting a keyboard/guitarist friend to join. The guy end up switching from keys to guitarist depend on songs which have worked well and it open up a bunch of songs that we can play with the keys. -
The venue I play the bass will get DI to the PA so the good tone I get is for me to enjoy on stage. Not sure what the audience hear but if they all nodding away then is all good. The only thing on my list when it comes to playing live is for me to hear myself, if I can't hear myself onstage then no point having all the high end stuff onstage. Then again having a SVT and ampeg 8x10 onstage I should be able to hear myself, if not something is going wrong lol.
-
The first time I play a Trace Elliot is in my church where they have a pre-Gibson Trace 1x15 (150watt). Got to admit I hated that amp in passion because I never able to get the sound I like and their are too much knobs and sliders to mess around. Sounded fantastic when play along (with the smiley EQ or pre-shape) but when mix with the band it sounded horrible for my taste. Many years after I learned more on graphic EQ, compression and the sound I wanted, I gone back to use the same Trace amp again and surprisingly I can get the tone I wanted with plenty of volume as well. Now I own a Trace Elliot GP11 (11 band EQ) and a Trace 15" cab. The tone is amazing if you know what to do with the EQ. No smiley face EQ for me as it won't work in live situation for me. I only boost and cut when needed.
-
People who are not bass player won't imagine the Bongo looks like a toilet board thing. Only bass player thinks it is ugly, it doesn't bother me to be honest. The bass certainly good enough for John Myung to switch brand and play. The 6 string tight spacing works well for me because I have small hands and I don't slap as well.

Ashdown DH-15-C110 15w All Valve 10" DROPHEAD 15 combo
badboy1984 replied to franzbassist's topic in Amps and Cabs
Good combo for the price, Already own a LB30 I can't see myself buying this unless my wife allows me to. Don't think she will let me when I already have 2 amp head and 1 cab lol. -
Maybe they may do the same thing like John with his Majesty guitar.
-
Sell the 2 ashdown cab and keep the MB250 blackline. The MB head is small, light and portable. Just need a smaller light cab to go along. This way you don't need to buy another combo.
