  1. Facebook Marketplace is often well populated with DB's for sale
  2. 2018 Stingray Classic in Vintage Sunburst, 1996 2EQ Ray in Cherryburst and 2022 Stingray Special HH in Amethyst Sparkle.
  3. My latest offering: Ric 4003S, 1989 Fender US P Bass, 2018 Stingray Classic, 1996 2EQ Stingray, 2022 Stingray Special HH, 2021 Status Kingbass Artist and 2022 Status S2 Classic.
  4. Thanks Michael, although given my track record I'd probably choose the name "Old Horse TBC" or "Merry-go-round Murphy" 😊
  5. I asked Will if I could try out the 2018 Classic Stingray they had in stock and after playing it I decided to make a purchase. It's absolutely spotless and weighs 9lbs 8oz (top of my weight range really) but is light for one of these. I've strung it with TI flats and it's brilliant. Foolishly, while I was waiting for Will to dig out the Classic I picked up a 1996 2EQ Ray that was sat on a stand and basically couldn't put it down again. It's got a few dings and minor chips (who hasn't?) but weighs in at just under 8 1/2lbs and just sounds amazing. Fortunately Will was agreeable to a p/x and I walked away with two Rays to join my Special that I've been gigging with recently. There's such a difference between the single and double H basses and the 2 vs. 3 eq that I felt I could justify it. Having recently moved a few basses on I didn't feel too guilty either. It's strange; I've been a passive bass fan for so long but now ffive of my seven basses are active and it works really well for me gigging-wise.
  6. I called in to Bass Bros earlier today after phoning Will to say I was in the area. Fortunately he was in the store so I popped in. It's the first time I've been to their new unit and I must say I'm really impressed with the set up. There's some lovely kit there and I left considerably poorer than when I arrived. Will's a top chap and has that whole "customer experience" off to a tee. I'm delighted that the business is thriving for them and will definitely call in again when I'm in the area. In common with vampires, once I've been invited in there's no escaping me.
  7. I met Mark today to hand over a bass he bought from me. He's a lovely guy with a seriously cool collection of basses. I can't recommend him highly enough.
  8. It was very very hot. We played a festival slot between 7-9pm and after experiencing some feedback issues for the first two songs (the singer's/guitarist's monitor AGAIN) we went down really well and had to politely turn down the requests for an encore as everything was running late. A nice evening. My goodness it was hot though 🥵
  9. Firstly thanks to everyone who has made some suggestions about trying to make the bass work for me. After some consideration I've decided I'd rather sell than chop it around. For sale is a custom P Bass body made by Guitar and Bass Builds. It's a 5* 2 piece Swamp Ash P Bass body that has been rear-routed for Jazz Pickups with a 60's spacing and was professionally finished is a high gloss clear lacquer. I've fitted EMG J pickups to it, including an EMG solderless harness (VVT) and a Fender High Mass Bridge. The body, pickups and hardware cost around £600. The neck is a Status Graphite Jazz neck, fitted with Schaller tuners. The bass weighs 9lbs 3oz and is in excellent condition apart from a few small marks on the headstock (no chips though). It plays beautifully with a lovely low action but sadly I can't get the sounds I particularly want. There's no case but if I ship it I'll make sure the package is bomb-proof. I'm looking for £850 delivered or I'm happy to hand it over in person within an hour of Monmouth. I'm not prepared to sell the neck separately unless I first find a buyer for the body, so please don't ask. I have a long list of people who expressed interest in the neck already and if the body sells I'll let them know. No trades thanks
  10. Thanks mate. I'll put an ad up shortly and see how I get on.
  11. Thanks for all the suggestions chaps. I've cogitated in this and unfortunately it's not going to work for me and what I want so I think I'm going to put it up for sale.
  12. There was a well known bass player in Watford who had the imaginative nickname of "stumpy" due to having no little finger on his left hand and half a ring finger too. He played right handed and managed to adapt his style to suit his abilities. He was a cracking player. Similarly if you haven't already, check out Django Reinhardt who only had (I think) two useable fingers in his left hand due to a fire. He played right handed too. I'm sure you'd ably manage to play right handed but it's possibly worth looking at a shorter scale Bass to help with the reach until you develop a style that's right for you. Good luck with it all, you have my absolute respect.
  13. Oh he's worse! 😂 I think Jake @Jakesterwas the last person he actually sold anything to and that's must've been five years ago now. He seemed to have a well-trodden path to the local Cash Converters where he pawned some really decent kit when money got tight. I don't think he actually ever wanted to sell anything in the shop when I used to visit and he had some amazing stock tucked away. One of life's characters for sure.
  14. Well I had the opportunity to gig this last night and it plays beautifully. The only problem is it still sounds like a Jazz 😂 Genuinely not sure what to do. I've had a large number of offers to sell the neck separately but I don't think I'll do that, otherwise I'll end up with a neck less body again. Decisions decisions.
  15. Big Rick fan too. The first time I saw him was in my Dad's video of The Last Waltz when I was 12 or so. Ineffably cool, good looking and just a brilliant bass player: I was smitten with bass at that point.
