1.
I'm married but my wife understands that the band has first priority on my time. The only time I have failed to turn up at a gig was because I was unconscious in the local A&E after an accident (and a follow up when I was in a wheelchair with my arm in a cast). The band understood the situation, visited me, and arranged a dep as I didn't want us (that is, the band) to miss a gig.
The only fair way is first come first served, I don't think my wife would be happy if I overruled a friend's wedding or a weekend away with a gig booked after.
 2. First of all sorry to hear you're not tip top Roger, best wishes from me. I'd be interested in attending another bash and don't mind travelling a bit so Bicester would be fine with me, might give me inspiration to practice more!?
 3. I've already got one as an early adopter of speakons being a Genz Benz user for rehearsal space cabs but most people buying these will be hooking them upto modern cabs plus as a back-up head You want to be able to swap the di,kettle ,speakon and input cable quicker than the guitarist can tell a rubbish joke!
 4. They could have fitted one of those dual Jack/speakon ones.
 5.
To be honest, if someone spoke to me like that then I would quit too. Yes he was disorganised but no need to treat him like a piece of crap.
Reading the email the OP posted again I tend to agree, I think I'd be off and I think his reply was quite reasonable too.
 6. But how do you know if your free? I know when I'm not free so that's fine I can tell you that. Whatsapp group, "gig on date x everyone free?" yes or no gets replied to quick enough. I've got too many hobbies which could result in a last minute booking to clear my diary for the band.
 7.
It does have a DI 🤔
Ah I didn't know that, no speakon though right?
 8.
If someone mentions a gig to me, I put it on my diary with a ? next to it. If something else comes up I query it with the rest of the band. It's not hard. In the old days we used to call it 'pencilling it in'. Actually, that's what I still call it, and do the same for all unconfirmed social and work events. .
Likewise, that said I had to dep out my first ever gig with my current band to play a charity gig for free after my own screw up!
 9. You'll need to go to 735 or 745 imo, but it will sound great and you can sell all the existing kit.
 10. Tbh I think I'm with the drummer, "you mentioned" the gig in April, nothing else since and it's not on the band's website. I've got an issue with the "dates you can't do" thing too, our guitarist wanted us to give him all the dates we can't do rather than him check for each gig but he's not my dad, if I've got no gig next weekend and I book a weekend away that's my lookout, I'm not going to update my personal free time diary with him on a daily basis as things come up, booked holidays of course no problem and times you already know are out to save checking every time but not my personal free dates for him to book what he likes. Ah bands
 11. Oh and a speakon please
 12. I still think the lack of a di out is a mistake, a lot of the gigs I do where it would make a handy backup require a di. To me it would make more sense with a di as it would only need to pump out enough for stage monitoring then.
 13. Even as someone that doesn't enjoy his music I don't think it matters if someone wants to spend a fortune on what should be a fairly cheap bass only to noodle away on it in their spare bedroom as long as they enjoy it.
 14.
I disagree. IMO Jaco has made a contribution to anyone playing bass today, whether they know it or not. Blue
That's why he's wrote "as far as they're concerned".
 15.
Then I guess it's s personal thing. I don't know any older people that can't listen to him or young people that can. Blue
There are plenty of people on Basschat that are old enough to fit your idea of the correct generation that openly state that they don't get him, go to a bass gear show in the uk and you'll find people in their 20s and younger doing "the Jaco thing" on a fretless.
 16.
A generational thing. I get how young players might not get his once in a lifetime style and approach to the electric bass. However, I will never get or understand how some younger players don't understand his inpact or overall contribution and inspration to thousands of musicians. BTW I'm not a huge Jaco fan. Blue
It's not generational at all, it's not a young vs old thing, there are older people that can't listen to him and younger people that really dig it.
 17.
+ 1 million! His work with Joni was sublime and this is a great example.
Sounds like someone that has just been given a fretless playing over a you tube track to my ears, I keep listening to links hoping I'll find one I enjoy but it hasn't happened yet
 18.
I can.
A wise man once said "aimless noodling"
 19.
great advice - problem is, my 4 string is a *beaut* of a bass and I love her *very* much
So did I, I've sold all my four string basses since making the switch.
 20.
straplocks are the biggest con ever. I had some Dunlops and had to keep tightening the straplock onto the strap.....well if I have to do that every time what's different from checking that the strap is on properly? idiotic Grolsch type rubber washer does it for me, plus you get to drink a nice beer
If you were having to keep tightening the Dunlop ones to the strap as they kept coming loose then they weren't Dunlops! Just sayin' as they say
 21.
But you only know if it works if you, or someone you trust, has successfully used it. That's what the original question was. It's no use paying for 'peace of mind' if, when push comes to shove, the 'insurers' wriggle out of the claim and you're left hung out to dry. Yes, insurance is worthwhile, as long as it does actually insure. How many folks have paid for insured shipping, only to have claims turned down for whatever reason..? The proof would be if someone could show that it did, in fact, work for them. That's what was asked.
I found reviews from people that had used ampband and been paid out before purchasing it, you can't do much more than that.
 22.
I am aware that in this day and age people like suing and making claims but why on earth would you need a PLI? Isn't that what the landlord should cover along other licensing regulations? I understand the tripping hazards etc etc.
They would if you were employed as the house band and on their books, if a builder working at your house damaged your neighbours fence would you be happy to claim on your own insurance or would you want the builder to sort it out directly? It's no different.
 23.
I'm not sure that's true. The EQ on a bass amp or preamp is designed for a bass guitar whereas the desk EQ is very much general purpose.
Only if you have a cheap desk.
 24. You could move the conversation further forward and say "why bother with the EQ on your amp when there's a better one on the PA desk?".
 25. That's a real shame, cruel disease.
