1.
Why not just carry a decent bass DI, so if any or all of your amps go down, you can go through the PA? Not ideal for onstage sound purposes, but a quick fix - and cheaper and lighter than lugging extra amps around.
I used to agree with this but with new small heads not much bigger than a di box yet still equipped with one anyone if you are already going into the desk will give you power to your cabs, a used gk200 won't cost much and will fit in your gigbag, also good for practice rooms with ok cabs but crap heads.
2. I was tempted but mine is blank, I can't help but look at the stagg ones even though they are not bang on.
3.
Hang on, I'm a bass player, why am I changing the sound from indistinct low endy thump?
Slap?
4. I have a Genz 300 watt head, a Genz 600 watt head and a twin channel 900 watt Genz head (second channel setup for db), I have a 1x10 cab, a 1x12 cab and a 2x12 cab. Can't think of many gigs I can't cover with a combination of that gear and I can carry all three heads and the 2x12 in one lift!
5. Thomann use that size box for half a dozen plectrums and a pack of strings on the other hand Ashdown cabs sound like they are still in the box! How does it sound?
6.
That would be great, thanks. I'd be particularly interested in lowering the action - I guess filing nut and the bridge slots to get them even is a good starting point. Two other things make themselves apparent - a 'quacking' on or about the F on the D string (is that an Fing quack?) and a wobbly hip brace that the pietzo picks up. Easy fixes?
Just realised its in this thread, page 5
7. Mine was also on a wooden pallet with metal straps over the box! Next question then, sticky dots or in at the deep end?
8.
Hello, I am cheap and don't like buying batteries, I am also very lazy, and don't like changing batteries. Those are my only real excuses.
I am lazier as I don't have to move from the spot I am standing on to alter my sound at the amp
9. I did a thread some where with pics etc, I will look for it and link it when I get five.
10. Wait until you see the shipping crate!
11. Yep usually the jack socket not separating when the lead is removed. Won't be long until the passive only crowd chip in with daft comments about this being one of many reasons they don't like active basses etc, natural tone etc etc straight into an active di box or fancy amp with active eq controls
12. Hi chappers, mine is not too good still but hopefully if you didn't break into the joint like me you should be ok sooner, I'm not going to lie though mate its a slow process
13. That does nothing for me at all! Funny how we are all so different, if I made a list of everything I would not want in a bass it would look exactly like a king bass
14.
Mayonnaise? It's a bit like Marmite really.
I like both! Would it be worth setting if Mark at bass direct could sell it for you? Probably one of those bases most people don't know about unless they were in a shop?
15. From what I have seen and heard all of the cabs mentioned should be brilliant cabs, also I can't see that the Bergs are any better built than the Genz ones, the uber range look to be a cut above the lot so if money is no object I'd try an uber?
16. I found the more I played it the more the position feel into place, my brace is above my waist too, set the nut to just above your eye brow rather than worrying about the brace height. I don't really use the small brace but always use the hip one as I can feel bad habits creeping in when its not fitted. Give it a few Weeks and your arms, shoulder and back will hurt less after each practice, welcome to the club! :-) Ps has it had all the mods done?
17.
Your SR is wonderful, KIng Basses are what old people who have given up play.
Pmsl
18. And its for sale already!
19. It sounds from my limited knowledge that the string height might of been too low if they were as easy to play as the eub?
20. I know everyone says it but I really would have this if I had the cash! I dont understand why Mayones are not more popular over here?
21. My dislike is based on 10 years of playing through one, wooly, unreliable and poor after sales service all first hand but thats not the OP wants to hear is it? It is easier to suggest everyone that makes comments on them has never tried/owned one. Top and bottom (less top obviously ) is that if the OP and the other people like or love their gear why get upset? Plenty of dislike for class D heads and weak G strings on Stingrays but I like what I have and it is me that has to use the gear so why would I care?
22.
Classic Stingray arrived at work today; it's amazing, can't believe how much better it feels (to my hands) the gloss neck is ace. Think I'm in trouble.
I will probably get a classic five at some point soon
23. On mine you could see where the bridge had been fitted to the strings as they fit the bridge and strings then remove the bridge and wrap everything up well, after that it was just a matter of getting it to sit right, took a couple of goes but no problem at all. As for preparing to your requirements they will fit your choice of bridge and type of strings which obviously takes some effort to shape the bridge to your bass and string silks are easy to ruin if like me you are new to db, gedo fitted mine spotlessly. Pot of pops rosin and a reasonable bow tucked in the quilted gig bag were just the cherries on top, loving mine more each day, I'm sure its starting to develope a better sound?
