1. You got a big Al, I didnt know!?
2. I had the laney head you mention as my spare for function band duties as my ashdown had an intermittent fault, the laney was ok actually but maybe a bit lacking in oomph for metal with crazy drummers. It was a very sturdy amp, I can't remember what I did with it, either sold on here or ebay for less than £100. I'd look for something a bit beefier just because of the volume thing on the other hand I'd recommend it for sound and build quality for the money.
3. I can't wait to get stuck into this
4. I have met Pete, be warned he doesn't look that much like his avatar if its the sex you are planning on going for!
5. Well you cant argue with that can you!? best of luck with the sale not that you should need it
6. Oh no dont worry you have ages yet to work out how tight to have the hairs and how much rosin to put on it and which rosin to use! Then and only then will you be able to begin your journey with the misery stick
7. Done a while ago now and sold the Jazz before anyone asks
8.
Great pics!
Ta Come on where are all the big Al basses?
9. Sounds like trial and error to find the point where you can get the low set as low as possible but before it starts sucking juice for no reason, sounds like it should be plenty loud enough to me.
10. I have a yita bow too, it's quite pretty but I'm terrible at using it
11. That's good news then
12. I'm new to upright, can I post you my electric bass skills in exchange for your upright skills?
13. Just watched the how to stand with the bass video, brilliant and already learnt a few things to try even though I have watched other clips trying to explain it. I had lost interest with the idea of learning online as most of the clips I had watched were poorly filmed with sketchy ways of talking through often a lot of waffle about nothing! Yours look good and you are clear and concise, even for a numpty like me. I will be back for more as soon as possible (out for a curry tonight, motorbike ride tomorrow, practice thursday, function gig friday, you get the picture I have saved your site to my favourites too, really looking forward to lots more time spent watching and learning
14. I will be having a good look when I get time!
15.
I must say that I didn't even notice the difference when I first played my 55-02 and I don't notice the difference when I swap between it and my 34" scale basses. I does, however, produce a very pleasing B to my ears. YMMV.
I don't really notice either, I really like 55-02 basses and the proper USA version, probably the only bass on my radar at the moment, proper bass for all occasions I think.
16.
I wouldn't rule out a Jazz 5.
I was already thinking about the Mayones in the for sale section before I had finished reading the OP
17. I know it has the three valves that interact but there must be a way of cutting the lows?
18. How low is it set though? The 37hz just sucks up power really unless you are playing dub step!
19. I would get one and another neoxT cab if I had a gig that required 4x12 on stage,I like them alot
20. Don't forget that all sr5s except the classic have a selector switch for parallel, series and single coil modes compared to a standard SR4
21.
I wish one of you could come to a gig in the Huddersfield area and have a listen! I guess I need to do a bit of a/bing between different basses, cabs and amps to try and see where the weak link is, if indeed there is one. It might just be me.....
Does the stream liner have the shelving like the shuttle? If it doesn't then any frequencies below about 40hz are just soaking up power without you hearing anything, you might even be able to roll the bass off without hearing much change in tone but find you have loads more headroom. The shuttles run at 80hz without the low boost engaged which drops it to 37hz from memory, even with a low B I only drop the shelf for a couple of songs (feel good inc ,the slow morcheba version).
22. Also nearly forgot, almost every single one if my favourite players uses a P bass and I usually like to hear them being played at local gigs, give me one in a live mix and I hate it every time, I'm not alone in this, your current bass will also play nicer than most P basses too. I like a ray or a P neck but I don't think they play better than most good Ibanez or Yamaha basses. See I have all the wrong gear on paper
23. Sold my last four string bass a few Weeks ago, I won't be going back Another plus one for any of the lakland basses really, some great usable tones in all the ones I have tried, don't rule out a 55-02 without trying one as from your description of your bands they will fit in nicely and you can often pick them up on here, very very nice basses IMO , good luck and enjoy it what ever you choose. Ps have you heard a stingray with flats in a country rock setting? Delicious
24. Staggs rule!
25.
I would make up a serial cable, so it'd be driving 8 ohms. It's less power output, but it would still be moving a lot more air. No replacement for displacement!
That's a good plan
