1. More good work mate! We had some pics taken last night so I'm hoping to put one on here of mine in action last night.
 2.
I know.I meant 'new' as compared to an old Fender. My view is that Flea fanboys were never aware that he played a Modulus, as there is has always been an assumption that Flea plays a Stingray. Stingrays are more prevalent in the market, so Flea fans bought Stingrays (I've seen plenty over the years!)
I agree but a lot of crap is spoken about him not using them as much as other basses but even when recording with other basses he always made them sound like stingrays anyway, his most iconic era was filmed with him playing them and that's what counts to most fans of anything. I have seen people suggest that he never played rays until the blood sugar sex magik era, I normally point them to the album cover of the first album from 1984! Which to bring us back to the topic of graphite is actually a cutlass with a modulus neck so he had the modulus connection from day one I like flea and am presumed a fanboy because of my rays but I got into them because of John Deacon actually. Ironically I hear flea records mostly with an SR5 on the last few albums but I have never seen him with one live?
 3.
I would say that , in my experience of comparing them side by side , what you get by buying a good ( emphasis on good ) high quality , high -end bass over something like an EBMM , which I would class as a very good quality factory- produced bass , is that a boutique bass will play with far less relief in the neck( if you want it that way ) , the action can be lower(if you want it that way ), and a quartersawn and reinforced neck will feel more solid and need less frequent adjustment . In terms of the overall quality of the sound , however , at what they do , I think EBMM basses can match many or even most bespoke basses .
Yep I would agree, my 2 SR5s are pretty good in fact the black one is my favourite bass but the blue one would need a fret dress to get a super low action (and super low is not 3mm off the board is it, some people on here have no concept of super low), both the necks are stable though just needed a 1/4 turn after 3 years with this recent weather, now the Classic on the other hand can go super low, like proper low! Old Horse Murphy had it before who has a hand injury (and loads of others from that egg chasing game!, Hi Nick) likes a very low action so I had to raise it up a lot for my 2.5mm off the12th fret nearly no releif neck setting that I have. Someone that has a fancy bass with super low action would need to go down the fancy bass route to be sure but you could get it from lesser basses but its a lucky dip IME. Still never played a Fender with a good B string that wasn't a guitar!
 4.
I like the way you slipped that in there :-)
Just watchout for Tolex, paint or carpet burns on your knees!
 5. Brilliant film too!
 6. What about the van from dumb and dumber?
 7. Certainly built better than the shower of sh*t AC in this thread even before the play wear, my Olp guitar has a better head stock finish
 8. Lol , none were worse either though.
 9. My car is actually painted in synthetic even though it is over fifty years old! It might be part of the reason it is still here, shame it's not a Ferrari though!
 10.
Cars used to be painted with nitrocellulose. Situation would be comparable if most cars still were.
Are most new basses shot with nitro?
 11. Mark at bass direct is you're guy but he must have so many more unique brands after him he might not want yet another due to store space and more direct competition to the other peoples gear he already has stocked, worth a try though.
 12. I did see the wonky bridge in your original thread, I thought it might have been a special thing for the B string, it appears not. I have had my bridge on and of a few times now, just lay the bass on it's back on the bed but I guess it depends how snug it is fitted? I can't see any other way though just don't bump it with the bridge off I'd say. I'd try rewinding the B string to the left and see if it helps but you can't really do much more can you? Seam repair advice I will leave to the knowledgeable ones here but I see no reason why a bead of hide glue and a sash clamp over night won't hurt it's a cool bass that's for sure, well worth sorting.
 13.
It's all about finding that killer Squier.
Then selling it on here for half what it cost me after all the funky upgrades just because it only had four strings ,such a good bass.
 14.
I find there's lots of snobbery both ways here on BC. You get it from high end owners who wouldn't touch a 'cheap' bass and then the reverse from people who would never pay over xxxx for a bass and think the people who buy the expensive ones are mad. Both camps like to take a pop at each other now and then and both get equally defensive. Not sure it's particularly 'positive' but it's pretty basic human nature to have some sort of attachment to things and a set of beliefs you want to defend. Working, albeit only a day or so a week, in a bass shop means I've seen a lot of instruments come through in all sorts of states of repair. There are some that are almost totally faultless and others that are often a bit wonky. Musicman is definitely somewhere in the middle. I've seen some real beauts but also some complete dogs. Two of the worst paint finishes I've ever seen have been on Rays and another had a neck like a banana and was near unplayable (truss rod was still working too!). A couple of Classics have been in recently and both were really nice and very well finished
I'd agree with that, sometimes being in the middle like me is tricky, I'm Mr average gear wise and ability wise I'd say, if I was worse I'd know my place, if I was better I'd be the nuts, I see musicman fitting neatly with that my classic is like a snobs Ray anyway
 15.
That Classic 5 is nice. If I was in the market for a new bass, it would be a contender... Mind you, I've just found myself looking at Pavel instruments...
Even if you ignore the style and setup of the bass I haven't seen anything better finished out of all the basses the geek meets have thrown up, that said obviously it takes more time and skill to put something with fancy laminations etc, often these really expensive basses are no more than a boring old burst like my classic though cnc and a bolt on neck not exactly pushing the boundaries is it?
 16.
Damn right. I am getting rather frustrated with this attitude. "Why don't all you plebs just shut up, as you aren't rich and discerning enough to deserve one of Jimmy's basses anyway..." or words to that effect.
Yep I'd go with that too, you can see from lots of peoples gear lists here that they have chosen not to buy an expensive bass but rather a few or more at lower prices but you do get a wiff of snobbery with these so called high end basses. I had around 7 grands worth of rays not that long ago, I just like them! I have played almost every brand going other than dingwall and Ritter so far, none were any better built than my classic5.
 17.
Might have been...
18. Sure i want my gear to look professional at a gig but i paid for it so i get first dibs on what it looks like so if i don't like it I'm not going to buy it, I'd also never use two odd cabs with different designs style wise and or dimensions (width wise, maybe height) , call me a gear slag if you want but until someone else us paying for them that's the way it will be
 19. They all look like fender jazz basses with slightly different head stocks to me, dull
 20. I'd save your money and spend it on better strings for it and a roll of copper shielding tape
