1.
Agree with Chris, two of the same cab is twice as nice.
I actually think its three times as nice
2. I'd only ruin it by putting thumb rest on it
3.
I was at the gig I saw a Mesa rig next to the ampeg rig would they not of just used that?

I was at the gig I saw a Mesa rig next to the ampeg rig would they not of just used that?
Very odd wasn't it? was it just stage dressing to create the wall for the bass tech to work behind I wonder?
4.
He gave it to photographer Ross Halfin. It's on his blog. They gave him a case as well! P
Brilliant
5. I can't remember the last time I used an amp in the studio, bass pod about 12 years ago, various di's into a myriad of computer based emulators ever since. Every engineer that has been doing it a while has always loved a stingray into the desk with the eq on the bass set flat leaving them infinite final mixes to play with
6. I know that ache well! Just have short sessions at a time for now mate, as for lessons I'm still to find anyone in the stafford area myself
7. After weighing up all the pros and cons I went for a new Gedo bass, I love it! I have been playing bass long enough to know what I am buying when having a test drive but even after 6 months with my gedo I'd be hard pushed to know a good db from a bad one or know where to look for faults etc, the gedo gave me a warranty and a bass that the general opinion is that they are decent from the factory and should be even better if and when I decide to have a luthier check and adjust it. I went for a mid range half carved bass then added spirocore strings and an adjustable bridge which they did with no fuss. Go for it
8. For all we know there may have been problems between the bass tech (bens personal guy) and the venues sound crew?, a bit of "its not our end must be your amps di" , swapped it and no change, bit of fiddling and a new signal path to fix it.
9. They definitely had a spare ampeg, both were stacked up as they swapped the leads over, they should have done that between songs four songs earlier. Might not have been the ampegs at fault unless they were both faulty but doing nothing lead to a free p bass for someone and another ruined.
10. The problem with generators (and inverters if using batteries) is the sine wave shape rather than the voltage, people test the voltage and declare it to be suitable but the sine wave shape will upset digital and audio gear, not great for us musicians eh? This gives a simple version of sine waves. http://www.hightechgenerators.com.au/what-is-sine-wave-and-what-does-it-do.aspx
11.
I think that is exactly who you blame if you have no bass out front... and on stage for that matter.
I'm with JT, he was having trouble before the total loss for a few songs from where I was stood, even if I was doing the sound for free down the youth club I'd have stepped in between songs to either swap the head or put a di in place just in case it went off totally. The only way it would be the bass players fault in this case would be if Ben had told them in no way was he prepared to play the gig with anything other than the cab mic'd off the ampeg.
12. Afaik we can't actually hear the lows at the frequency where the damage may have occurred? What frequency does the amp shelve at? My genz amps shelve around 80hz or lower to 37hz with the lf boost engaged, anything lower than that is just sucking power and quietly ruining the speakers.
13. That's why I bought my max head Ian, its a very complex amp in a very simple box, fet channel and valve channel with their own EQs, I can see more amps going this way, the twin input will be great for Sheehan fans and anyone with a real stereo Ric!
14. My pre eb ray was my keeper, sold it.
15. I like that, I have been suggesting a similar thing based on a pair of genz heads, I invented (in my head) the same idea but with only one input but two 900w outputs, the rest of it is the same as my shuttlemax anyway. The second input would be great for db users rather than using the fx return.
16.
I have and use both, but as basses are regularly plugged straight into an amp (or possibly a preamp with EQ controls), so isn't it just about where you do any tone shaping?
This my view, having it on the bass just makes mid song tweaks easier or handy if like me you play pick, fingers or slap from one song to the next, look at the setlist and I know without playing a note how much and which knob to tweak.
17. I must admit it was my first time so I was quite happy and was pleased his voice was still good, bit of bass drama just added to the fun! I don't even know who the support where but yes, bit dull but sort of filled the background while we all got a pint and a tiny gap to stand in
18. I don't think you would have been in a better position with anything else, the modern amps work on quite a flexible voltage compared to some amps afaik, if the generator was knackered enough to be struggling with led stage lights I think it was a losing battle! A basic little honda gene should be enough for a few amps and lights so I'd say the gene was either way too small, faulty or had something else like a beer tent draining the power?
19. I like the black as it ties the look of the hardware and pickups together?
20.
Ah ... so ... no Nigella Lawson content then?
21.
I was there! Right at the back... As the amp lunched itself I thought it was the best tone if the night! The bass tech got the bass back after a few mins. It was Ben's main bass, called Baron apparently.
Did you enjoy the gig?
22.
Whoever managed to get their paws on the P Bass, how far do you reckon they managed to get home in one piece?
I was hoping a basschatter had got it but it's probably on ebay already.
23. Thanks again Geoff, really good as ever, I have downloaded an app for ear training to play with until my wrist improves.
24. Welcome home Matilda
25. I have my elec bass into the amp instrument input and my db with single bassmax into fishman then into fx return, I could do with a mute pedal for the db circuit rather than turning the fishman up and down but other than that it works well.
